to think that a ham AND cheese sandwich is a teeny bit extravagant?

I know, I know!

We had friends round for the day this weekend and lunch was a "make your own sandwich" type affair, all bits out, put what you want in it. There was cheese, ham, tuna, salady bits, pickles and sauces etc.

Now my friend Bob* had ham AND cheese in his sandwich Shock To me, that seemed like he was having two fillings in one sandwich - terribly indulgent Grin

*Name changed to protect sandwich eater's identity ;)

my ds takes a ham and cheese sandwich for his packed lunch most days, all his friends this is a weird filling, totally norm with my family

partialderivative · 02/02/2016 14:47

Anyone heard of a chicken and egg sandwich? I think it's called a mother and child reunion

PurpleDaisies · 02/02/2016 14:53

Limit the fillings and puddings and we'll be back on track before you can say "cheese and ham".

Grin

I have just eaten a ham and cheese roll because of this thread. I don't normally eat ham. DH eats ham and pickle rolls for lunch, every single day Hmm

DD doesn't like cheese so had to have ham and tomato sauce.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 02/02/2016 15:10

Blimey calm down luv. If he'd added pickles to it as well you might have needed the smelling salts. (and we must not mention the mustard)

chibsortig · 02/02/2016 15:24

Has Bob returned the invite for lunch yet? I'm betting the cheeky double filler only has one at home Grin hes taken advantage of your kind nature.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/02/2016 15:28

Ham and cheese is perfectly normal andacceptable. The only person who would think otherwise is my MIL who counts the number of loo role sheets people use and comments on it publicly. She removes the "good" toilet roll when BIL visits and replaces it with the cheapest she can find.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/02/2016 15:29

roll

DS's favourite is a ham, hard cheese and sift cheese wrap!!!! Takes the piss!

00100001 · 02/02/2016 16:16

Double cheese??
Now I've heard it all! Shock

I like cheese sandwiches. I like ham sandwiches. But the magic really happens when you combine the two. Sometimes I even throw in a slice of tomato too.

NathalieM · 02/02/2016 17:28

Ham and cheese is casual! It's when you're into the 3 or 4 filling territory that you're really cooking!

Mrsleighdelamare · 02/02/2016 17:32

Although....I did get rather put out at my step FIL who came over for lunch and drank four cans of coke (it was a six pack).

Surely the right thing to do is accept one can, possibly two, then out of politeness switch to water? Plus, and this really got me riled, HE WAS HELPING HIMSELF. Just strolling in to the utility room and taking them. Bold as bloody brass.

Actually, I was a bit Shock until DH pointed out that we had in fact bought them for the guests to drink.

Although same step FIL ate nearly all the Yorkshire puddings on a separate occasion. He does have form.

ricketytickety · 02/02/2016 17:32

Try a BBC - bacon, beans and cheese. Have to eat it with cutlery...

Even after all these years there are still so many threads that have the ability to stun me.
YABU OP.
I just feel like I don't know other human beings at all. Confused

Goingtobeawesome · 02/02/2016 17:34

I don't think I've ever had a ham and cheese sandwich Sad. I think I may have had a ham and cheese croissant Confused

Katedotness1963 · 02/02/2016 17:38

Our family enjoy the occasional "big sandwich" night.

Fresh bread filled with English mustard, roast beef, turkey, ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise. (It must be in that order)

Yum!

seafoodeatit · 02/02/2016 17:53

God, has MIL been testing me all these years??? you put food out for a buffet type lunch - expect everything to be had by all, I've never heard of a social limit on sandwich fillings? ham or cheese just sounds stingy.

Lynnm63 · 02/02/2016 17:57

I like ham sandwiches and I like cheese sandwiches but I hate them together unless it's toasted. Ham and cheese is one of my dh's favourite sandwiches.

I like a wrap with cream cheese, ham, tomato, onion, chicken, Mayo and crushed crisps. I think the OP might have slapped me!

WitchWay · 02/02/2016 18:05

Yum - sounds like a good lunch.

I'd've had ham, cheese, salad & pickles in mine. Or tuna & salad if some greedy person had already scoffed the ham & cheese

Acorn44 · 02/02/2016 18:07

If that's extravagant, then what is a Croque-Monsieur?

Bogeyface · 02/02/2016 18:15

Years ago exDH didnt take his lunch with him to work. I asked him what he had had and he said that he bought a cheese and ham sandwich. I had a hunch and after a little probing he admitted it was a quarter pounder with cheese :o

NancyJoan · 02/02/2016 18:18

Fucksake, Bob, this isn't Buckingham Palace, you know.

starfishmummy · 02/02/2016 18:40

Ham and cheese is normal here!
And to be honest I like tuna and cheese. Had it from a sandwich bar once, didnt think it would be nice but jt was
