to think that a ham AND cheese sandwich is a teeny bit extravagant?

I know, I know!

We had friends round for the day this weekend and lunch was a "make your own sandwich" type affair, all bits out, put what you want in it. There was cheese, ham, tuna, salady bits, pickles and sauces etc.

Now my friend Bob* had ham AND cheese in his sandwich Shock To me, that seemed like he was having two fillings in one sandwich - terribly indulgent Grin

*Name changed to protect sandwich eater's identity ;)

I walked to the shop and bought ham for ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch because of this thread AND I put sunblush tomatoes in as well.

2rebecca · 02/02/2016 13:14

I like lots of fillings in my sandwiches. Cheese on its own is extremely boring. Ham, cheese, salad, gerkins and mayonnaise please.

Ameliablue · 02/02/2016 13:17

Yes you are being unreasonable, if you wanted to ration them, you should have made the sandwiches for them.

LittleLionMansMummy · 02/02/2016 13:19

I'm currently tucking into a ham, cheese and coleslaw sandwich.

I think Beyond was referencing how to make a hamwidge. I must re-read that thread.

TSSDNCOP · 02/02/2016 13:44

Une baguette aver fromage et jambon said in a Del Trotter accent is standard fare chez TSS.

00100001 · 02/02/2016 13:47

amelia It's OK, I know for next time. Besides "Bob" will never be invited back...obviously. Can't be having a double-filling, Quaver eating glutton scoffing all my food, we'll all staaaaaaarve!

Next time, it's plain dry bread and water all round!

Really? Jeez, OP. Lunch at your house sounds a bundle of laughs Grin

tinofbiscuits · 02/02/2016 14:06

I like ham and cheese sandwiches but do feel like I'm being a bit extravagant by eating one. I don't remember people eating them when I was growing up (yes it was a while ago!)

I agree with you OP, however DH always make this type of sandwich, he's NEVER happy with just a "normal" sandwich.

He even gets the pickled onions out on a weekday lunchShock.

It's a wonder we aren't bankrupt.

00100001 · 02/02/2016 14:12

Well, bakeoff you're left with no choice. LTB!

Pickled onions... on a weekday. Next you'll be telling me he has more than one biscuit with his tea!

I think if you are going to organise such extravaganzas you need some sort of a token system in operation.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 02/02/2016 14:14

I don't especially like ham and cheese together, would far rather have them separately with salad, but if you put stuff out and told people to choose their fillings then you are very tight fisted and controlling to complain about them having ham AND cheese.

Are you my SIL?

00100001 · 02/02/2016 14:17

cadburys yes, excellent idea!

How might I ensure the Tokens aren't abused though? A double-filler is the kind of person to abuse such a fair and reasonable system!

I've been putting up with it for 26 years.Sad

And yes he does have more than one biscuit. When I grew up up north we were allowed TWO biscuits, that was it.
I then met my H and his family demolish a WHOLE packet in one sitting
and don't talk to me about boxes of chocolates

I didn't realise at the time what a disfunctional family I was marrying into.

00100001 · 02/02/2016 14:18

trolley I'm not really complaining.

it's a disgrace - who takes TWO fillings?

OP posts:
bakeoffcake · 02/02/2016 14:20

I think if someone is a double filler they should definitely not be allowed pudding. That should be law.

I'd be challenging that law on the grounds that against the human rights of people with big appetites. That definitely sounds like cruel and unusual punishment.

regenerationfez · 02/02/2016 14:25

Tin now you mention it, I dont remember ham and cheese when I was young either. One slice of ham with butter on white bread. Delicious! havent had one for ages. I do hate it when people use too much ham or too much cheese so Im not really a glutton

bakeoffcake · 02/02/2016 14:34

It may be cruel Purple, but this country is in the grip of a debt mountain.

Limit the fillings and puddings and we'll be back on track before you can say "cheese and ham".
