I know, I know!

We had friends round for the day this weekend and lunch was a "make your own sandwich" type affair, all bits out, put what you want in it. There was cheese, ham, tuna, salady bits, pickles and sauces etc.

Now my friend Bob* had ham AND cheese in his sandwich Shock To me, that seemed like he was having two fillings in one sandwich - terribly indulgent Grin

*Name changed to protect sandwich eater's identity ;)

Ham and cheese imo is a bog standard rather dull sandwich. I see no issue with having it at the sort of spread your describing op

LaContessaDiPlump · 02/02/2016 10:54

I am a vegan and you bastards have got me yearning for my previous favorite sandwich :( hummus and sun-dried tomato is nice but not quite the same....

Obs2016 · 02/02/2016 11:03

We have ham AND cheese together all the time.
Were you very deprived as a child? Are you very frugal and don't like spending?

MoggieMaeEverso · 02/02/2016 11:03

I don't consider cheese a full topping, it's an extra. If you eat cheese at all, you should have no problems adding it to everything surely?

(Perhaps this thinking is flawed. And yet... No, no, surely I'm right. Cheese with everything.)

Obs2016 · 02/02/2016 11:04

Quavers ASWELL? The man is just a pig and a glutton. Obviously.

FlysInDreams · 02/02/2016 11:06

Ham, cheese and coleslaw toastie. Or is that just me? Grin

NiNoKuni · 02/02/2016 11:06

Brace yourself OP...

We get those roll your own croissants and put ham AND cheese in them before baking!! They come out all lovely and melty and delicious. We have been known to put some ham bits on top too so it goes all crunchy. Lush Grin

Clutterbugsmum · 02/02/2016 11:07

DD2 has hard boiled egg and ham sandwich as she doesn't like bacon weirdo.

Tamirwen · 02/02/2016 11:07

My mum goes all funny at a ham and cheese sandwich. "That's very POSH. That's what the POSH kids had at school. Gosh, you really love to spend it, don't you? Gosh, aren't you fancy, ham AND cheese."

Butty of choice in this house.

ShowYourSeams · 02/02/2016 11:07

Sometimes I put chutney in a ham and cheese sandwich! Shock

He probably needed the extra filling to compensate for the lack of substance in the crisps. (Quavers are essentially just cheese flavoured air). Try serving something robust next time, like a tortilla chip, or a crinkle cut to save on sandwich fillings. Grin

I first encountered cheese AND ham sandwiches when my Guide group visited the Guides (Girl Scouts or whatever) at the local American airbase in the 1980s. We were offered ham and cheese sandwiches and obviously thought there would be two types of sandwich but no! They were in the same sandwich! Profligate Americans!

There was a tradition of wheeling troops of awestruck Essex kids around the airbase though, my Dad remembers playing football there and the American kids won (despite it being soccer) because the Brits kept stopping to gawp up every time a plane took off.

I really want a cheese and ham sandwich now. With the cheese cut very thin.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 02/02/2016 11:09

I love a ham and cheese sandwich so YABU.

However....left to his own devices DSS would make a sandwich with ALL of those ingredients. Literally, all. He would then give you the "wot?" face when you ask him what everyone else is supposed to eat!

So just be pleased that Bob isn't a teenager Wink Grin

PurpleDaisies · 02/02/2016 11:09

Has anyone mentioned ham and cheese scones yet? Delicious hot with proper salty butter.

ouryve · 02/02/2016 11:09

YABU. It's a rather lovely combination - particularly with a big dollop of coleslaw.

SecretNutellaFix · 02/02/2016 11:28

Ham and cheese is perfectly acceptable. Unless your a penny pinching miser.

whois · 02/02/2016 11:31

Ham and cheese is the best combo! With salad.

SoleBizzz · 02/02/2016 11:34

One sandwich? ONE pack of quavers I wouldnt go back to yours. How stingy.

paxillin · 02/02/2016 11:36

He'll want cream and jam on a scone or gin and tonic next. Nip it in the bud Grin.

BrieAndChilli · 02/02/2016 11:36

DS2 favourite sandwich is tuna and Brie!

00100001 · 02/02/2016 11:36

obs2016 yes, very, I grew up in the Poor House, they fed us watered down water, with a dry cracker to share between ten of us. On Sunday though we used to only get whipped 10 times instead of the usual 20! Ahhh, good times.

Tuna and brie?

Allalonenow · 02/02/2016 11:40

A ham AND cheese sandwich is fine, thick ham and thin cheese and chutney, and even better if toasted.

But better by far is a ham and egg mayonnaise sandwich!
