to think that a ham AND cheese sandwich is a teeny bit extravagant?

I know, I know!

We had friends round for the day this weekend and lunch was a "make your own sandwich" type affair, all bits out, put what you want in it. There was cheese, ham, tuna, salady bits, pickles and sauces etc.

Now my friend Bob* had ham AND cheese in his sandwich Shock To me, that seemed like he was having two fillings in one sandwich - terribly indulgent Grin

*Name changed to protect sandwich eater's identity ;)

Bacon and egg is acceptable. Ham and cheese is gross.

Tanaqui · 02/02/2016 10:04

Lol funnily enough, at a subway or similar I love cheese in with ham/ salami/ anything, but at home I saiid always have either or, with pickle or salad- is it a weird rationing thing?!

PuntasticUsername · 02/02/2016 10:05

How do cheeseburgers fit in?

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 02/02/2016 10:06

Ham, cheese and pickled onions. Finely sliced obvs.
Marmite??!

Shirkingfromhome · 02/02/2016 10:06

I think next time there should be a sign up;

One filling, one serving of dressing and a choice of two sides ONLY.

Saves people taking liberties with the fillings

00100001 · 02/02/2016 10:06

Is it relevant that he also had a pack of Quavers??? Should that go in the "I'm a about to NC you Poem"

You can buy ham AND cheese sandwiches in most shops so there is a market for it
Personally I don't like cheese so I would t have it
If you put it out for guests to help themselves would have preferred each item eaten seprately ?

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/02/2016 10:09

Ham and cheese sandwich, ham and cheese omelette, ham and cheese scrambled eggs, what's the problem. Confused

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 02/02/2016 10:09

If invited to our place for lunch
One filling is all you should munch
If you'd like two or three
I'm afraid it's not free
£1 more for those extras you crunch.
Thanks awfully.

Crankycunt · 02/02/2016 10:10

It depends if it was naice cheese and ham, that on their own would have made an exceptional sandwich.

PurpleDaisies · 02/02/2016 10:11

The best ham and cheese sandwich is made with granary bread and has gherkins and mustard (ideally American squeezy style).

00100001 · 02/02/2016 10:12

there isn't a problem Wink

My dad made me a ham and cheese sandwich for my packed lunch every fucking day between 1995 and 2007. I can't bear to look at the things now.

(Yes, my dad made my packed lunch until I was 17. My parents were skint and it was either that or don't eat!)

73dexter · 02/02/2016 10:13

I would have a ham + cheese toastie but not a sandwich but I guess that is ok as it is hot food!

OnlyLovers · 02/02/2016 10:14

I love a ham and cheese sandwich! With coleslaw is good, or some nice crunchy salad leaves.

Ham and cheese is also good on croissants, in pancakes etc.

HolgerDanske · 02/02/2016 10:14

Oh I need a ham and cheese toastie now. With mustard.

00100001 · 02/02/2016 10:14

margarita

Second verse.

You also took a pack
of a cheesey crispsy snack
in light of the sarnie
it's clear you're barmy
it's clear you must never come back!

According to Wikipedia!

"Ham and cheese sandwich is a common type of sandwich. It is made by putting cheese and sliced ham between two slices of bread.[1] The bread is sometimes buttered and/or toasted. Vegetables like lettuce, tomato, onion or pickle slices can also be included. Various kinds of mustard and mayonnaise are also common.

Sliced bread, sliced cheese, and sliced cooked ham are very readily available in Western supermarkets and as a result ham and cheese sandwiches are quick and easy to prepare. They are a common component of a packed lunch."

[1] Jean Pare (1987). Soups & Sandwiches: Soups and Sandwiches. Company's Coming Publishing Limited. ISBN 978-0-9690695-6-0., p. 138: "Insert slices of ham and cheese between 2 slices of buttered bread or toast. Add lettuce along with mayonnaise and/or mustard."

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/02/2016 10:16

I kind of agree with you except for toasted sandwiches, then it has to be ham AND cheese together but, for run of the mill sandwiches, I would have ham and mustard or ham and tomato - and NO cheese. For a cheese sandwich I would have a dash of mayonnaise and Branston pickle - and NO ham. I might even have a bit of lettuce.

For omelettes, I would NEVER have ham and cheese - just cheese (and fresh parsley).

We all like what we like. I was thinking that all the ingredients in your OP would be summoned for an American sandwich though!

My favourite thing at the moment is the pepperami-in-a-roll, so convenient.
