So I'm arranging a birthday party , and in my childs class there are 4 child with the same hyphenated name L-M. Except one of the 4 her mother decided she was a special snowflake and her first name is 3 names all hyphenated L-M-E.
So as I'm writing the invites in a rush I accidentally write them all as L-M , no big deal right?
Well on Friday , the mother pulls me and says my child would attend your childs party but it seems you've given us the wrong invite. It's says L-M not L-M-E , and I'd like an invite with her correct name on and just walks off. Is it me or is she being a bit dramatic? I have a double name and have no problem having my name shortened , my mother never did. Am I right too be a bit annoyed or was I wrong for not putting her daughters full name?

She sounds like a Crank.

fastdaytears · 31/01/2016 12:51

She has been very rude but I'd be surprised if she's not identifiable with that name

Viviennemary · 31/01/2016 13:00

I think it was a bit rude of the Mum to demand another invite. But it could be the child has made a fuss and doesn't think the invite was for her. I probably would write another invite but would roll my eyes and moan to everyone.

llhj · 31/01/2016 13:28

dingalong
Your daughter has a popular 5 letter name and yet when's it's misspelt a certificate, it's unrecognisable?
What kind of teachers does she have where they make those kind of catastrophic spelling errors? Bizarre.

Oldraver · 31/01/2016 13:37

She was rude so I wouldn't bother giving her another invite.

Iliketoparrty · 31/01/2016 14:05

I have a traditional boring name, which has only 1 English spelling Patricia. Throughout my life my name has been spelt wrongly. Patrixia, Patrizia, etc I love seeing the odd spellings my current favourite is Phyatrixxiya. I think the h, y and second x is silent.Grin

I've spelt peoples names wrong before. I apologise and move on which I'm sure you would have Op had she given you the chance.

L.M.E's DM will spend a lifetime being upset and unhappy for nothing, surely she must have thought about this before she named her DD.

Whocansay · 31/01/2016 14:33

She's clearly a loon and likes a bit of drama. Do not pay any attention to her tantrum and definitely don't give her another invitation. Ignore completely.

Zippidydoodah · 31/01/2016 14:37

Lilly- Mae-Elizabeth?! Ffs!!

AlpacaPicnic · 31/01/2016 14:46

Ooh, the options when it comes to the myriad of lily-may names are endless. I hate when I am filling in a form for one of them and have to ask the spelling because almost every time the mother will look at me as if I'm being deliberately difficult.
But I've come across...
Lily-may
Lily-Mae
Lily-mai
Lilly-may
Lilly-Mae
Lilly-mai
Lili-may
Lili-Mae
Lili-mai
Lilli-may
Lilli-Mae
Lilli-mai

And I'm sure there are even more variations out there.

L-m-e's mother needs to stop taking it so personally.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 31/01/2016 14:47

I hope that you used the correct spelling for all of the other L-M's!
I know a Lily Mae, Lilly Mai and Lillie May!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 31/01/2016 14:49

Cross posted Picnic!
Don't forget Lillie! My gran was actually Lillian, never heard her called Lillie.

d270r0 · 31/01/2016 15:02

Ha ha, what a strange lady, demanding another invitation. Smile at her nicely and say you don't have any more blank invitations but if she brings the invitation to pick up you'll add on 'Elizabeth' onto the end of it if she likes. Brandish a pen around just to make your point.

Confusedmomma · 31/01/2016 15:35

Luckily all the L-Ms are lilly-Mae. It's like I said though I personally handed the mother for the invite so no confusion if it was for the right child. She's being a fussy sod. Can imagine her tantrums when her childs older and none of her friends call her L-M-EGrin

What a name! Confused A bit of a farce to go around demanding people 're-write party invites and demand a second copy.

I'd have seen red, said fine give me the invite back and I WILL add on your precious petals quite frankly absurd name name in full....but I have a fowl temper.

Just say, I don't have a spare but of you give that one back to me I can write it on the end you swine and smile Smile

jillyarmeen16 · 31/01/2016 21:54

Knew it would be lily mae. When did may start being spelt mae and why?
Lillly mae Elizabeths mother is an idiot.

Claraoswald36 · 31/01/2016 22:14

Wait. There are 4 kids called lily may? How unfortunate Wink

IoraRua · 31/01/2016 23:33

To add to your list Alpaca - I know of a Lilliee Mai Grin

bolleauxnouveau · 31/01/2016 23:53

yanbu. She was rude.

Are triple barrelled names a thing now?

I may go over to the naming threads and suggest a few.

Truly Madly Deeply, Snap Crackle Pop, Scooby Dooby Doo

SoporificHobnob · 01/02/2016 07:25

I went to school with a Mae, she was Scottish so I assume that's where the spelling came from.

YeOldeTrout · 01/02/2016 07:46

Smile at her nicely and say you don't have any more blank invitations but if she brings the invitation to pick up you'll add on 'Elizabeth' onto the end of it if she likes. Brandish a pen around just to make your point.

That is brilliant. Grin

I'm a mouse. Assuming my DD still wants LME there, I'd hand Mom another invite (assuming I didn't have to pay for a whole new pack of invites, else something written out hastily by hand) and mark her down as One-To-Avoid.

I have a weird spelling of a common 5-letter name, I couldn't care less how people spell it, unless official documents.

Pigeonpost · 01/02/2016 15:53

A triple barrelled first name is a MN first for me. Well I never.

Whocansay · 01/02/2016 20:55
