To be totally pissed off with DH for being mean about Inside Out.

I am sitting here stewing, almost in tears and I know I am probably BU and irrational but he has really annoyed me.
We both like Pixar generally so we rented Inside Out to watch with the kids this evening. After I had put the kids to bed (my turn) I went in to his man cave (spare bedroom) to talk about the movie. He thought it was the worst one they had ever done at which I expressed surprise and said most people thought it was good. He said he had read loads of reviews saying it was really bad and Pixar were going downhill. He said it as if I was stupid to like the movie. I said I had read different reviews and he gave me a look like he didn't believe me.
I have just checked reviews online and cant find a single bad one! He has made that up to back up his wrong opinion! I know if I call him on this he will say something sarky about him always being wrong. Its totally stupid and I am probably completely pre menstrual but I feel like I cant talk to him now without having a row! I am now sitting in the kitchen with wine and feeling like I am stressing over a tiny trivial thing. Which I am, probably.

He has to be right, and be backed up with being right, even if he has to make up the bit about being backed up.

Fuck him. I bloody loved and cried my eyes out you know when.

nocabbageinmyeye · 30/01/2016 21:24

Yabu, and completely ridiculous, are you old enough to drink wine?

It's a children's movie - why are you in years about it? Seems like rather an overreaction.

You don't have to like the same movies.just because he doesn't like it, you can still love it!

PennyHasNoSurname · 30/01/2016 21:27

You are allowed to have differing opinions om stuff OP.and him not liking something you do isnt a slight against you

no73 · 30/01/2016 21:27

this has got to be a joke.....its a film....why does he need to like every film you like. Its not life or death its a frickin film. You are clearly not old enough to drink wine!

JohnLuther · 30/01/2016 21:27

Really?

Get a grip Grin

VashtaNerada · 30/01/2016 21:28

It's a great film and I don't think YABU. It's emotional to watch and (for me anyway) it feels quite personal watching it and thinking back to your own childhood. I felt genuinely moved by it and wouldn't have liked someone mocking me. And I'm also guessing it's his condescending tone that's upset you, it's one thing to disagree on a film but another to act like the other person is completely stupid.

TypicallyEnglishMustard · 30/01/2016 21:29

I didn't get what was such a big deal when I saw it. I'd read so many excellent reviews hailing it as one of the top films of the year, and so many people told me I would break my heart crying...

Meh. I wouldn't watch it again, and while Cars is definitely Pixar's worst, I certainly don't rate it. I just don't get it, what does everybody love about it? It had some fun ideas, but most of the plot was exceedingly dull.

TheMouseThatRoared · 30/01/2016 21:31

Aww op, yabu. Have more Wine

JellyMouldJnr · 30/01/2016 21:31

Do you feel like he is always dismissing your views OP? As an isolated incident this seems like an overreaction so I'm wondering if its part of a pattern.
(BTW, I enjoyed the film, and as a psychologist was poised to hate it).

HeyYouGetOffMyCloud · 30/01/2016 21:31

Oh grow up Op.
Really.

JellyMouldJnr · 30/01/2016 21:32

have to agree that it is one of the weaker Pixar films though. I've just watched monsters university and that's better IMO.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 30/01/2016 21:34

I've seen better films, Pixar are riding on the coat tails of their other films and are pushing their luck with Inside Out. Cars 2 is utter bollocks!

StrumpersPlunkett · 30/01/2016 21:34

I really really didn't like the film.
There were brief moments of genius and I would have loved it as a Pixar short

That said.
He didn't need to say you are stupid to have liked it.

couchparsnip · 30/01/2016 21:36

It is the tone that pissed me off. And the blatant lying to back up his point. I am basically BU I know. He doesnt have to like the same movies as me but to act like
I am stupid for liking something annoys me. He does it often. Imagine Comic Book guy from the simpsons. Thats him today.

VashtaNerada · 30/01/2016 21:36

Do people seriously think this is about whether the film is good or not? Seriously? I think it's more about the way couples talk to each other. DH and I have very different taste in some things but we always disagree amicably.

VashtaNerada · 30/01/2016 21:36

x-post!

ouryve · 30/01/2016 21:37

There's more to it than this film, isn't there?

DH and I watched it, the other night - DS1 didn't want to know because of the subject matter and DS2 lost interest quite quickly - not really his thing. It was a beautiful film and we both enjoyed it. Had DH not liked it, though, I'd have not taken it personally, unless I was already feeling pissed off and despondent about other things in our relationship, in which case I can see how disagreeing about a mere film could end in an argument.

fluffywol · 30/01/2016 21:37

I thought it was crap. DP and I took my 13 year old nephew, who gets - ahem - vocal when he enjoys a film, and he sat in near silence through the whole thing. DP wasn't keen either.

Cleorapter · 30/01/2016 21:38

I think this is more than just about the movie, tip of the iceberg perhaps?

I liked Inside Out, alot.

Highsteaks · 30/01/2016 21:38

Almost in tears?!!!

My DH often says that films I like are crap, and vice versa tbh, we just have differing opinions. Occasionally, I think he just purposely hates films that are almost universally praised, I remember him going on and on about how shit Inception was, but......meh.

There must be more to this surely?

fluffywol · 30/01/2016 21:39

But your DP should have allowed you your own opinion about it. Even though you apparently didn't do the same for you Confused

fluffywol · 30/01/2016 21:39

For him that should have said.

nocabbageinmyeye · 30/01/2016 21:41

But how do you know he was lying, many here clearly didn't like it either. He shouldn't have called out stupid obviously, but your reaction is completely ott, are you sure he didn't mean it in a "you are acting ridiculously" sense (to be fair he'd be right)
