AIBU?

To think my baby is absolutely not too old to be breastfeeding

I know what you're thinking, this is going to be about somebody breastfeeding a toddler or pre-schooler and there will be a bit of a debate ...
Well, my baby is 12 fucking weeks old! Hmm

Having tea and a scone in M&S cafe this afternoon when an older lady walking past, not realising he was feeding, stopped to coo at him and when she realised he was fucking about and absolutely not feeding feeding she looked disgusted, tutted and walked away saying to her husband (presumably) that "that baby was far too old to be doing that I mean, really!" Causing a few people around to look over and see what I was doing to my baby

I was shocked and alone at the time (mum was in the queue) and I didn't say anything, just sunk into my chair a little bit
Telling DP when I got in and I'm actually ashamed to say that I had a little cry, and now I'm annoyed that I was upset about it
Stupid woman

AIBU to think - what the fuckity fuck, he is absolutely no where near 'too old' and to be really fucking annoyed with myself that I didn't say anything and that I let her upset me?

Ugh I got disapproval from both my mum and MIL (the silent, trying to suppress kind of disapproval) about BF until 6 months. Its a generational thing. Thats the kind of thing that was drummed into them back in the day.

I stopped at 6 months with dc1 because I felt I should, but i'm thoroughly winding them up now as I'm still BF with DC2 9 months in!

Don't beat yourself up in any way, she is just rude and misinformed and you are doing an awesome job of looking after your baby. Flowers

What a fucking ignorant bitch. Sorry you had to have a cry because of that vile woman.

Oh and I'm bf'ing my 17mo old. A child is never "too old" to be bf, they stop when they want.

Ageof- "3 and over is perverted?" WTF? You have seriously warped views if you think breastfeeding a child is perverted. Breasts are there to provide the perfect nutrition for a child, there is nothing perverted about it, don't be so ridiculous. And the WHO recommend feeding up to at least 2 years and BEYOND, ie self weaning.

Can we all just ignore the perverted comment? AgeOf clearly has massive issues Hmm

What a rude woman. I never had any conflict while breastfeeding, and i breastfed my dd until ds was born and my ds for over two years. 4 years of continuous bf and
No negativity. My friends think it is because I give an air of 'i fucking dare you to say something! Walk away or feel my wrath.'
Ignore ignore ignore.

YANBU.

I had a man tut at me over his SUNDAY SPORT with tits on the front.

Just ask if they want a taste and if not to get to fuck. Don't waste good scones on twats.

High fives to all the BF Mothers who managed to feed for a long time. Only managed till 5 months myself and think of you all with awe and envy!

Yep, at 12 weeks they should be strictly caviar and champagne.

She's an idiot. I think I've been lucky that no one has ever said anything negative about breastfeeding. I've had the opposite, two comments have been made and both positive. The first was on my very first time breastfeeding in public.

However, i'm wondering if John Lewis has a 3 month breastfeeding cut off policy - I was in their parents room last week with my 6 month 9th centile baby almost suffocating her in their stupid tiny barrel chairs(!).

People really don't know how old babies are. I was once asked what the age difference between my twins was. The person could not believe they were twins. They were 2 weeks old and not yet 7lbs.

And I'm still feeding them at 18 months. I no longer care what others think.

lol - i thought you were going to say 12 years old :-)

As long as you are happy and baby is fed and happy, how sad (for her) that the older lady had a problem with it.

I agree with the pp who said laughter is the only real way to respond to that. What an idiot that woman is.

Weird.

What makes people think they're entitled to bloody comment on someone breastfeeding anyway, I've never understood it. I struggled to breastfeed so have little personal experience to draw on but I cannot for the life of me imagine in what circumstances I would comment on a baby/child being fed by their mother, using the breasts she has that were designed for feeding. Rant over Grin

YANBU. She is nuts. Maybe she couldn't see and thought DC was a massive child? Or maybe she just has nothing better to think about? Either way, just dismiss it and ignore.

As far as i know there is no upper age limit on eating. I would hazard a guess that woman was older than 12 weeks and i'll bet all the bacon in my fridge she ate something in the cafe and i bet you more she ate again this evening. You're never too old to eat.

I am just offering an honest opinion. There is a point at which breast feeding starts to look a little - ahem - odd. We all know it.

Name it.

Ageof Biscuit

So at 2 years 364 it's not perverted??

You are seriously misinformed.

Far too vague. You need to name the point so we can all state whether we "know it" or not. I saw a nine month old talking today. My babies interacted from a few weeks old. My friend's baby walked at 10 months so was a toddler. You really need to be specific. What age please?

Report
NoCapes · 29/01/2016 21:48

Ageof DS1 was walking at 10 months, talking at 11/12, so was it 'perverted' to feed him at that age? Hmm

can't believe I bit
