To think my baby is absolutely not too old to be breastfeeding

I know what you're thinking, this is going to be about somebody breastfeeding a toddler or pre-schooler and there will be a bit of a debate ...
Well, my baby is 12 fucking weeks old! Hmm

Having tea and a scone in M&S cafe this afternoon when an older lady walking past, not realising he was feeding, stopped to coo at him and when she realised he was fucking about and absolutely not feeding feeding she looked disgusted, tutted and walked away saying to her husband (presumably) that "that baby was far too old to be doing that I mean, really!" Causing a few people around to look over and see what I was doing to my baby

I was shocked and alone at the time (mum was in the queue) and I didn't say anything, just sunk into my chair a little bit
Telling DP when I got in and I'm actually ashamed to say that I had a little cry, and now I'm annoyed that I was upset about it
Stupid woman

AIBU to think - what the fuckity fuck, he is absolutely no where near 'too old' and to be really fucking annoyed with myself that I didn't say anything and that I let her upset me?

What 'type' is fish exactly? How is her marital status relevant to the conversation?

And... Was that a threat? To a random internet person? What will you do? Internet all over her husband?

This has taken a real turn for the bizarre.

Not fire about flatonthehill, highonthehill is more likely!

Fishinminepuddle · 31/01/2016 15:46

what type would that be?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/01/2016 15:47

I returned to work at 2 weeks for all of them bar one and I still Breast fed

BastardGoDarkly · 31/01/2016 15:55

Hmm that's a weird comment flat care to explain it?

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:09

How did u breastfeed at work?
I went back when ds was 12 weeks. Office in London. So,knocked the bf on the head at 2'weeks old. Got into a 4 hourly feed on formula and it worked well.

The type i am referring to is the breast is best mafia. Very tiresome. My colleagues wife was one. It was the standing joke in the office. He was embarrassed himself if she popped in and whacked her tit out. Not discreet at all. Thats the 'type'. You could see the poor bloke cringing. All blatant and "look at me, im earth mother". They are the 'type' that give bf the stigma it sometimes has. If its done discreetly then fine.

And by the way I dont drink alcohol. Unlike a lot on here that seem to knock it back.

Really? I dont know what world you live in. But quite frankly my views are more common than you think. I have the balls to actually say but most just think it.

Fishinminepuddle · 31/01/2016 16:17

Like this?

Tapirbackrider · 31/01/2016 16:17

I think it's pretty clear where the stigma over breastfeeding comes from, some posters here are making their disgust obvious. Like a dog with a bone, no comment is too much, no chance to spread their grubby innuendo is left unsaid.

I can honestly say I've never noticed a mother feeding an older toddler/child. TBH I haven't noticed that much breastfeeding of infants either.

Not because it doesn't happen. But because I'm too busy getting on with my day and my own life to give a fuck what another woman chooses to do with her breasts and her child. Her body, her baby, her business.

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:25

Tapir
Im not disgusted by BF its the way some do it.
Fish Grin
Put if this way the way these babies in the vid are feeding is fine. Normal in fact, yes normal and discreet. Covered up.
Im talking about the ones that whack the whole tit out in full view.
The vid shows tops slightly lifted and blankets. Nothing wrong with that.
Its a shame they dont all take the stance of a bit of decorum.

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:30

Dixie
I could call you plenty but would not insult you. I have more manners than to call people arseholes in a debate. It shows lack of control and intelligence when you have to resort to calling people swearwords. You have let yourself down there.

Tapirbackrider · 31/01/2016 16:30

No, it's pretty clear by the terminology that you use that you dislike it, but reserve your disgust for the easier targets.

What a shame for anyone you come into contact with.

As for decorum, you lost all of yours when you began posting on this thread.

Fishinminepuddle · 31/01/2016 16:30

Flat, what should I be careful about?

mrsmugoo · 31/01/2016 16:37

In all my time out and about feeding in all sorts of public places I've never once seen a woman with her "whole tit out"

All the feeding Mums I've ever seen wear layers or drape a muslin over their shoulder. It's such a functional thing to do I can't for the life of me understand why people even think that there are women that use it as any excuse to "get their tits out" HmmHmmHmm

It's. Just. Feeding. A. Baby.

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:39

Tapir
I bf for two weeks. Yes not long but it was pleasant enough. I stopped it for my own convenience due to work.
Fish
My post re colleagues wife said it all. He's never home, always out. To get away from her. Some women can push their husbands away. Everyone has that risk when a baby takes over.

MrsMungo
If only all bf mums were like that. It would be more pleasant. I saw one in Cafe Nero with whole tit out and it was dipped in babies mouth. She was leaning over dipping it in. Was bizzare. Yes people were eyerolling. And do you blame them in that instance.

Fishinminepuddle · 31/01/2016 16:43

Is that what happened to you? Sad x

Tapirbackrider · 31/01/2016 16:45

Makes no difference how long you fed for, or say you fed for.

Your comments on this thread show your feelings on this matter, and expose your thinking on this entirely.

And as for asking a previous poster about their marital status...

I recommend a stop to the goading. I know some people can find Sunday afternoons a tad boring, but it's time to find something else to do.

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:46

Dixie
I have never put anyone down for struggling. My point was, why struggle when you dont have to. Nothing wrong with that. Surely we all want an easy life. I say take the easy option over the hard one if you can. Dont make a meal out of something when you dont have to. Its not hard. Is it?

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 16:50

Fish
Who are you relating to with the comment below?

Is that what happened to you Sadx. .??

Fishinminepuddle · 31/01/2016 16:52

I love Don't make a meal out of something when you dont have to in this context, it's so funny Smile Grin.

Some women can push their husbands away. Everyone has that risk when a baby takes over. Is this what happened to you? if it is please have some genuine Thanks, that sounds really tough.

Toria2014 · 31/01/2016 16:53

I am still breastfeeding my 19 month old toddler. I will continue to do so until she self weans. And I will feed in public too. Just to shock the pearl clutching twats of course.
