AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

Trans fatigue. Bloody sick to death of the sight of the word trans in every other bloody thread title.

If MN had a block filter I would block out the word and never have to see it again on here.

And quite aside from which, a pole of anonymous usernames on a site where people can name change as often as they like has no meaning anywhere other than to the one individual who started it. If people want a genuine pole then start a petition where people have to use actual names. For all we know there might only actually be ten people on that thread with a hundred usernames each.

Even if you are uninterested in sport, do you not think sport is important all the same?

RatOnnaStick · 29/01/2016 19:33

I just don't care that much.

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:34

Not important to me at all

trufflesnout · 29/01/2016 19:34

Could also cc to Nicky Morgan (Women & Equalities min), Kate Green (shadow min for W & E), & Maria Eagle (shadow min for Culture & Sport).

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:34

Costa I wasn't being patronising; I didn't know if people had avoided reading about the issue, altogether

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:35

Jolly good

Shutthatdoor · 29/01/2016 19:36

I don't think people should be questioned on

a) why they haven't signed
b) why won't they sign
c) if people say they don't care to be continually told 'do you realise what it means'

Mistigri · 29/01/2016 19:36

Shortcut it's statements like "this could be the beginning of the end for women's sport" - statements deliberately framed to cut short any sensible debate - that makes me disinclined to participate.

FWIW I competed in a physical sport (climbing), at a fairly high level, and it was always clear to me that women's "disadvantage" was primarily a social and aspirational one. This has been borne out by subsequent developments in the sport. Of course, there are other sports where there are genuine physical barriers. It would be interesting to debate this, but MN isn't the place.

glenthebattleostrich · 29/01/2016 19:36

And Maria miller who is determined to trample women's rights.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:36

No Costa, I don't expect sport to be important to you as an individual; but all the same don't you think its important? Nationally? Internationally? Culturally? For health reasons? For women's aspirations? For equality?

(Oo glen, that reminds me - theres a thread in site stuff asking for maria miller on for a webchat)

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 29/01/2016 19:38

It's none of your fucking business why people aren't interested.

It absolutely is patronising to start a thread touting for more attention. If folks want to post, they will if they see the title.

Bubblesinthesummer · 29/01/2016 19:39

I agree

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:40

Misti have you watched the fight between Fallon fox and Tamika Brents?

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:40

No not particularly - I avoid organised 'sport' like the plague. Anyone who's interested can discuss it all day - great - I have not one tiny weeny little bit of interest in it at all - never have, never will

trufflesnout · 29/01/2016 19:41

Ah I see Voyage, so it's to prove to MNHQ that people are interested in the issue more than anything else.

Nottodaythankyouorever · 29/01/2016 19:41

I'm sorry but it is coming accross as you are trying to guilt people into participating.

If people want to they will if they don't they won't.

carltonscroop · 29/01/2016 19:41

Yes. I understand.

But that doesn't make it something i want MN to take an official position on.

Doublebubblebubble · 29/01/2016 19:42

Even if you are uninterested in sport, do you not think sport is important all the same?

Nope. Exercise is important for us as humans. That is a given. I like exercising. We should all exercise however we like. Watching other humans sport so that they can continue to sport and make millions selling us bank accounts and Quorn couldnt be less interesting to me. Watching people sport isn't something you absolutely imperatively have to do...

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:43

I'm not trying to guilt anyone into anything not. I've just never met anyone who thought sport was totally irrelevant Confused

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:45

Maybe watching is of no interest, but high level competitive sport is a great aspiration for many young girls

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:45

Well you learn something new every day

Roussette · 29/01/2016 19:45

Not the slightest bit interested. Like others on here, heartily sick of the word trans, and won't be participating. So if you want to know why OP, that's the reason.
