AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

It's just a thread on the internet though.

So is everything on Mumsnet Worra.

It's never stopped people MNers from getting passionate before Grin

PerpendicularVincent · 29/01/2016 19:14

I don't know what petition you're referring to, but if there's a link I'll take a look.

I avoid any threads on MN to do with trans issues though, because they invariably lead to bun fights and arguments, and the overuse of 'cis', which I hate. I am live and let live, and would never judge someone on how they choose to live. The issue has been done to death though.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 19:15

IAmPissed, nobody hectored you and in fact one post was incredibly thoughtful.

If anyone is wondering, the thread is still there to be read. All you will see is a handful of people asking IAmPissed to share their reasoning. Because noone has shared reasoning as to why it is a good idea yet.

Grilledaubergines · 29/01/2016 19:15

I won't be doing it. Every time I read 'trans' I switch off to it and think of something more interesting, like defrosting the freezer.

Bombaybunty · 29/01/2016 19:15

Trans and sport
Two things in which I have absolutely no interest.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2016 19:15

Puported Grin

My point is, a proper petition would surely achieve something, unlike a poll on a parenting website.

Particularly one where name changing is rife.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 19:16

I think people are seeing trans and thinking its a trans issue. Its not, its a womens issue. (And there will be no cissing!)

Starbores · 29/01/2016 19:17

It's not an issue that is important to me at all and what are you hoping to acheive by answers on a thread anyway?

PurportedFeminist · 29/01/2016 19:17

I think someone is drafting one Worra. I saw a conversation about wording at lunchtime.

HumptyDumptyHadaHardTime · 29/01/2016 19:18

There are lots of problems in the world which I feel passionately about but I don't berate MNetters who may not share those passions.

WorraLiberty · 29/01/2016 19:19

Ahh well like said, I did sign it anyway.

But I still don't really see the point and I see even less point in a thread like this because it does come across as patronising, even if that wasn't the OP's intention.

Mistigri · 29/01/2016 19:22

I didn't sign it because I don't care about it very much, don't think I have the technical knowledge to understand the issues, and don't think MN is somewhere you can have a sensible, nuanced debate about it.

If that's BU then I am happy to set up camp in the unreasonable corner.

KP86 · 29/01/2016 19:22

I'm not British, so don't have any interest.

MotherKat · 29/01/2016 19:24

Badly worded, slanted and there for biased terf wankery that makes me wish I could slam each and every hateful, exclusionary, byproduct of the kyriachy with the hateful words that trans women have to face everyday.

trufflesnout · 29/01/2016 19:24

I've read the threads about it but I've missed the poll one. There's no point asking people who may have missed it to consider voting if you aren't going to route them to the poll.

trufflesnout · 29/01/2016 19:26

Oh, I just found the thread. It's here. It's not even a proper poll! I agree with Worra, there should be a campaign for change. This is pointless.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 19:26

KP86, its world relevant - its the olympic committee, not a british thing

SurferJet · 29/01/2016 19:26

Absolutely not patronising at all - just trying to get to a wider audience & to understand why some people aren't interested.
It's all good - I'm just really passionate about this issue so more than happy to hear your passionate replies.
Fwiw - I'm not interested in sport either. But I am interested in the future rights of women.

annandale · 29/01/2016 19:26

I have become extremely cautious about joining in with anything at all online - poll, petition, whatever - because I am concerned at the ephemeral quality of online outrage and fear signing up to something without thinking it through. So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson is useful here, and i was on mumsnet when he got monstered here and his wife turned up. I felt ashamed.

The more unanimous it is, the more I worry. I am probably in the 'remove all separate categories and let everyone compete together' camp which appears to be a minority opinion, but one not specifically catered for by the poll.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/01/2016 19:28

I didn't vote because I have no opinion on it - I don't give a shiny shit about the issue.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:29

Those people who are 'bored with trans issues'; do you understand the implications of what the Olympics committee have done?

Do you realise it could be the beginning of the end of women's sports?

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:30

Couldn't give a toss about sport - or if you're disappointed - I have other things to be concerned about

trufflesnout · 29/01/2016 19:32

Can a proper one be started (is change.org the right avenue for this?) that could be sent to the IOC and cc'd to people like Tracey Crouch (current Minister for Sport)?

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:32

Yep, I understand, I can read - still couldn't care less
