It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

OP posts:
Wombatinabathhat · 29/01/2016 19:45

Why haven't you told us what it's about? I don't give a fig about the olympics and haven't seen the thread you're referring to. I don't want to see the link. You started a thread and should specify what your point is

Mistigri · 29/01/2016 19:45

Shortcut no I haven't (I've never even heard of them tbh) - does this disqualify me from having an opinion?

I am prepared to listen to an argument that in some sports, this may be a potentially serious issue. In others it's a non-issue.

Most sports are inherently "discriminatory", because the very top performers have very atypical physiological and psychological attributes.

Costacoffeeplease · 29/01/2016 19:46

Good for them - why should that affect me?

Wombatinabathhat · 29/01/2016 19:47

and sport is irrelevant to me

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 19:48

Wombat, the ioc has changed the regulations that a transwoman can compete as a woman so long as testosterone is under 10nmol-1 for a year. Normal level for a woman is about 3nmol-1, man is between 10-30nmol-1. No surgery is required. Completely ignores all of the other biological differences between a male and female body, that are not affected by hormonal therapy.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 19:50

mistri of course it doesn't disqualify your opinion. It may alter your opinion.

Sports are sex segregated because anatomy and physiology of males and females give males an advantage. Where that is not the case e.g. equestrian events, there is no sex segregation

There are some very interesting stats on another thread

Female heavyweight champion is roughly same weight as !male, but more than a foot shorter and reach more than 15cm shorter

I think marathon...the faster women is slower than the top 50 men

(I might not have remembered acurrately)

carltonscroop · 29/01/2016 19:51

"Maybe watching is of no interest, but high level competitive sport is a great aspiration for many young girls"

Very much the case for my DD.

Still doesn't mean I support the idea MN gets involved on campaigning on this.

Depending on what emerges from sports bodies, I shall be involved there.

FrankNstein · 29/01/2016 19:57

From want I've read the IOC haven't changed any regulations.

They've changed the guidelines.

Each individual sport makes its own regulations.

This will have very little impact.

BungoWomble · 29/01/2016 20:02

Answered your poll. I hadn't seen it, I don't live on MN ft, only pt. Smile

Not sure what the point of the Olympics is now anyway, there are far too many drugs scandals or legitimate doping scams.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 20:03

Of course, the impact will cascade down

MrsJayy · 29/01/2016 20:04

Transgender isnt discussed in a way that i would chose to talk about i like many many others avoid trans threads like the plague, my opinion isnt anything I would say on a mumsnet thread yabu to treat us all like morons stay on your thread talk about your percieved injustice till your blue in the face starting a thread to summon us is ridiculous.

lamiashiro · 29/01/2016 20:11

And I rather resent being hectored into voting and told what I should care about.

BrianCoxReborn · 29/01/2016 20:13

To answer the OP:

I see no value voting for things on an internet forum.

sugar21 · 29/01/2016 20:14

Not interested

AlwaysHopeful1 · 29/01/2016 20:23

I have to say I'm just not interested.

shins · 29/01/2016 20:27

It's significant that this has got so little coverage in the media. I told my father in law about it the other day and he was totally disbelieving. Most people are when you tell them. For those who say they aren't interested in trans issues, neither am I tbh. I'm bored of the aggressive grandstanding of a minority of a minority deflecting attention away from women's issues. I usually ignore. But when women's right to safe spaces in changing rooms, prisons, refuges is threatened, when they no longer have a level playing field in sport - well fuck that. It's time to speak up.

BIWI · 29/01/2016 20:53

Right, OP, I've read the other thread now, and I apologise for my earlier post.

However, your style/tone was provocative - as you can see from many of the other replies on here!

If you'd said why you wanted people to post on the poll thread I suspect you'd have had a much better, more considered and serious response.

SurferJet · 29/01/2016 20:56

BIWI - point taken.
Thank you.
& thank you for taking the time to read the other thread.

OP posts:
gamerwidow · 29/01/2016 20:56

I don't like the aggressive anti trans lobby and I reserve the right to take part or not take part in any part of mumsnet as I see fit. You don't get to demand that I take part in any post or polls. Other people have different opinions to you deal with it.

ToothlessAndPointless · 29/01/2016 20:56

Just posting to say I too am sick to death of the whole trans word/issue/whatever.

Sick.to.death.

scarlets · 29/01/2016 20:58

I'm a bit bored of this topic on MN to be honest.

SomewhereInbetween · 29/01/2016 21:00

Is no one going to provide a link? Can't expect us to take part if we don't know where it is... Grin

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 21:03

It is somewhere on here, but here it is again

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2557132-Please-could-we-have-a-quick-poll-about-the-Olympic-committees-trans?

TheSkiingGardener · 29/01/2016 21:03

Because I don't want to. I don't have to. You can happily post or not post anything you want. As can I.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:03
