AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

Maybe you could read one or two, sometime, RhiWrites. See if you are right in what you've just said.

Lweji · 31/01/2016 15:27

I may have missed the post, but, on closer look, has anyone noticed that the OP, as per the thread title, is actually disappointed that active members have posted on the thread?
Nice double negative. Grin

Anyway... off to not care about MN polls.

OurBlanche · 31/01/2016 15:38

Transphobes, RhiWrites? Where?

There are a few fearful posters, whose fear is only worsened with links to a variety of stories to transwomen who are long term sex offenders. If that is all you know/read/hear about the issue then you will have that fear.

As Mary said, a more balanced, open, media stance would be helpful for many people. Making the subject taboo, whilst relishing in the more deviant stories, helps nobody.

Nor does throwing the term 'transphobe' into a thread that is anything but. It is very much like lobbing a handgrenade into a bake sale.

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/01/2016 15:59

I have no problem talking about this IRL. I have been on Trans threads on MN and despaired. I have been on feminist threads on MN that have descended into anti Trans bullshit. I don't consider MN a place to have a measured conversation on the topic.

But each to their own. I just considerit more than a bit weird that someone started a real, actual spreadsheet and that the OP is so disappointed in MNetters who don't wish to join in the convo that she started a thread about it.

OP, YABU.

Today 15:27 Lweji

I may have missed the post, but, on closer look, has anyone noticed that the OP, as per the thread title, is actually disappointed that active members have posted on the thread?

Ha - Yep, my mistake Blush will have to ride this embarrassment out ( & hopefully prove feminism is open to all - even illiterates )

But just to clarify - I am not keeping any spreadsheets regarding this issue. I don't know what's happening on the poll thread, but my understanding is that the thread was started to simply get a feel for MN opinion one way or the other - & that's it, Nothing more nothing less.
I certainly haven't heard of the poll being used for anything other than to collate a list of yes/no votes - what else could it possible be used for? Confused
This thread was started to draw attention to the poll thread, not for any other reason whatsoever.

I do suggest that next time you actually encourage people to participate instead of telling them off. Wink
And use Survey Monkey for the purpose.

SurferJet · 31/01/2016 16:15

Sure - point taken.

Bambambini · 31/01/2016 16:34

I care about sport, i care about sport for women and girls.

These developements are much more far reaching than just sport though. I used to be very blasé and pro trans - now i've actually looked deeper - i'm amazed and worried at how things are going. I'm also worried that lots of women are scared to talk about this publicly for fear of abuse or repercussions.

kua · 31/01/2016 16:52

Rhiwrites Discussion of women's rights being eroded does not make one a "bigoted transphobe". You have stated that you've not read this thread and avoid others that include transgender topics.

So, before you lob another offensive statement out there, I would suggest you do some reading on here.

ShortcutButton · 31/01/2016 16:55

llewji encouraging people to participate, who 'don't give a fuck', is like trying to coax petulant teenagers

JohnLuther · 31/01/2016 17:01

I don't particularly care which is why I didn't vote, I have plenty of other things to worry about, however that is not to say that I can't see what the issue is.

The spreadsheet is a bit Hmm

ExConstance · 31/01/2016 17:31

The question was asked why we haven't voted. My reply is that anything to do with sport turns me off so much I cannot bring myself to become involved.

Lweji · 31/01/2016 17:41

llewji encouraging people to participate, who 'don't give a fuck', is like trying to coax petulant teenagers
I can see that telling people off is so much better. Grin
Everyone has the right to care or not about women in sports, women, or MN poll threads. Without being called petulant teenagers.
When those assuming others have to care or have to post their vote are the petulant ones.

JolseBaby · 31/01/2016 18:11

Quite simply, because I don't want to. It's clearly an issue you feel strongly about but YABU to expect other people to also feel strongly about it.

The polling thread is full.

Samcro · 01/02/2016 11:10

surely its not just about sport. its about women being eroded and becoming cis women or some other stupid thing.
we need to say no . enough we are women end off.
this is just the start...what will be next?

venusinscorpio · 01/02/2016 13:59

Samcro, exactly. It's gone far too far already.

Bambambini · 01/02/2016 21:51

Been googling some other sites to see what's being said about this. Netmums has one thread of about 30 responses - some very heavily pro the IOC decision - shocked that anyone can put women getting the chance to compete fairly in sport above the feelings and rights of transwomen to feel that they belong and ironically to allow them to be able to compete fairly rather than be excluded. Women are just acceptable collateral it seems.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 01/02/2016 22:14

All i find anywhere is silence :(

Lweji · 01/02/2016 22:25

I think an actual case will be needed for people the media to react.

So far it's still a possibility.

Bambambini · 01/02/2016 22:43

I'd love to see Usaine Bolt come out as a Transwoman, compete and win, blow the women off the track. Hiim, silver and bronze - all transwomen on the podium. I'm thinking that's what it's going to take for people to take notice.

abbieanders · 01/02/2016 22:50

I think it'd be pretty amazing if anyone cared other than to say how marvellous it is to live in an era of such amazing progress in women's running times.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 02/02/2016 04:21

Agree lweji. :(
