AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

So... The olympics... Anyone?

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/01/2016 14:43

Venus, you have no way of knowing if people posted twice as some members here have multiple user names and the possiblity that some may have created identities to vote more than once.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 31/01/2016 14:44

Ah maryz, good Grin

Veritat · 31/01/2016 14:44

But, Maryz, counting wouldn't satisfy your curiosity, because the reality is that the thread isn't in any way representative of MN posters. It's just possible that MN know what they're talking about, isn't it?

Veritat · 31/01/2016 14:46

And, if you want to count votes, why the hell do you need to keep a record of names of who voted which way?

wickedlazy · 31/01/2016 14:48

Scribbled a pic of a tally chart but phone too low on battery to take a pic.

venusinscorpio · 31/01/2016 14:48

I explained all my reasoning upthread, and now I am going out. Tata!

OurBlanche · 31/01/2016 14:48

Bloody hell!

I have said that I don't think the results would be all that illuminating, so you can assume I think venus has taken on a Herculean task for no real reason.

But I can't imagine compaining that my opinion would be held against me - partly because I have read the thread/s and know why she is doing it and partly cos, who gives a fuck... really!

So some internet strangers know that I support trans issues but am alarmed and angry at some aspects of the newly emerging gender politics. Not really earth shattering is it?

My opinion is of no greater or lesser import than that of venusinscorpio and, should we wish to, we have many ways of remembering each other and settling in for a diatribe debate, without having to make a database!

Maybe it is just that my MN name is not particularly fragile. But, to repeat myself, who really cares?

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 31/01/2016 14:50

Mnhq said it was an even split and they had recieved emails directly. Unless they recieved over a thousand emails, it is not an equal split.

It is reassuring to know you are not alone when you feel gaslighted

Yes the Olympics, wont be watching myself as sport bores me rigid

But i do like things to be fair...sporting if you like so i do think we should have much, much, much more information on this issue which is why i voted For a protest, at least that way more information may be forthcoming

Gaslit

Veritat · 31/01/2016 14:53

Don't you find that interesting? That maybe this is an issue that some people feel strongly about but are afraid to talk about irl?

Nope. As demonstrated by this thread.

Such melodrama about a damn spreadsheet.

PissedOff & others what sort of sinister thing are you expecting to be done with a list of usernames Confused. Nothing has actually happened, or can for that matter. It's anonymous.

OTOH women are just being hysterical and scaremongering because of sinister things that actually have happened in RL.

I'm not following the priorities.

Veritat · 31/01/2016 15:03

Thanks all for demonstrating yet again the way dissent on this topic gets shouted down.

OurBlanche · 31/01/2016 15:06

I used to teach sport science, so I know this will be being discussed in universities and colleges all over the world.

After Title XI was used to 'force' American sports to accept this the writing was on the wall, the WSF wrote into their charter and the IOC was never going to go against that decision either.

The legal and constitutional nature of Title XI will make this a global done deal.

I have no interest in sport, if there was no more sport I could watch what I want on TV and not have toput up with stuff being moved around to accommodate a group of silly people trying to see which of them could run the fastest.

7Days · 31/01/2016 15:13

What are you talking about? People sticking to their own opinions isn't shouting you down.

If someone could give a counter argument to the concerns people have I would love to hear them.

All I've heard to far is
'Well I don't care' or 'It's paranoid to worry about loopholes being exploited' or 'transpeoples feeling are very important, their comfort and dignity is more important than yours'

None of which reassure me.

OurBlanche · 31/01/2016 15:16

I can't see how basing your opinion on not liking your telly being messed around is such a defensible position!

There is more to this, wider ranging implications, many of which have been discussed here and other threads.

To dismiss the whole gamut of associated gender politics because it messes up your telly programmes is extremely trite!

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 31/01/2016 15:17

I think it would be interesting to put this thread in a spreadsheet (lolz) and tally up...

How many dont care because they are sick of hearing about the trans movement
How many dont care about sport full stop
How many think it is paranoid to worry for a small amount of tw athletes
How many complain that the action of simply wondering about it is transphobic omg, diaf, terf scum

RhiWrites · 31/01/2016 15:19

I've no idea what thread is being talked about here. I avoid almost all trans threads now because it depresses me how many people on mumsnet are bigoted transphobes.
