AIBU to judge people on their teeth?

Met a guy on Saturday night who just called me. I refused a date because he has a couple of missing teeth. Okay so maybe I'm shallow but it matters to me.

Why do people kid themselvesi that if teeth are gone at the back it doesn't notice? It does and it makes me cringe. So do rotting, or neglected teeth.

If you want to date, sort it out. Take out a loan if you have to!

She's not just saying that she isn't attracted to one man because she didn't like his teeth.

She judges all people who's teeth don't meet her expectations and believes that they should get into debt to bring their teeth up to her expected standards.

drspouse · 25/01/2016 13:23

I was happy to get together with DH despite a few missing teeth (school dentists circa 1970) because of his very high, nay, infinite teeth:tattoo ratio.

MackerelOfFact · 25/01/2016 13:32

YAB totally U.

Even my DP who is a dentist doesn't make value judgements about people based on their teeth.

And WTF were you even doing that you managed to break a molar? I can guarantee that if you're abusing your mouth to that extent, your teeth aren't in nearly such good nick as you seem to think.

WankingInTheWinterWonderland · 25/01/2016 13:35

I have a couple of teeth missing at the back after having them punched out,

Thanks OP

WankingInTheWinterWonderland · 25/01/2016 13:37

Ive never been turned down for a job though.

Claraoswald36 · 25/01/2016 13:37

Mixed feelings about the op. I'm very precious about my teeth and would go in to debt to keep them nice. I'm the same about the dc teeth - if I let them become adults with wonky or decayed teeth I will have failed and feel very guilty.
However...my dp does not have perfect teeth though I find him very attractive. I had to get past the teeth but I'm glad I did. Attraction is very complicated and personal. You either fancy someone or you don't.

Wagglebees · 25/01/2016 14:26

Did you put your head in his mouth? Confused

No idea why you're single. Totally baffled at why you haven't been snapped up.

FarrowandBallAche · 25/01/2016 14:30

Phew for that man.

Birdsgottafly · 25/01/2016 14:30

""I am one of 'the working poor'. I negotiated my dental treatment at a special offer price from a few months before (they will usually negotiate) and paid it back over a year and a half. I cancelled my TV package, stopped getting taxis, and economized in a lot of ways""

What would you have done if you don't have these 'economies' to make, turned to crime?

Dentists will offer treatment plans, but many are based on Credit Ratings.

gamerchick · 25/01/2016 14:31

Maybe she counted them with her tounge as she was doing the deep snog.

Mirror21 · 25/01/2016 14:37

Sad that people are this shallow.

I have a terrible smile and too late to fix it now plus I cant afford it. I wont eat in front of strangers and will rarely have a photo taken

I am also now single and was considering an online date what hope have I got with people like you around

LilacSpunkMonkey · 25/01/2016 14:41

Why doesn't the OP just date CozyLinusBlanket?

Then they can both take their perfect teeth and their moral judgements of other people and fuck off somewhere else.

Sorted.

Mavisblewitt · 25/01/2016 14:47

mirror I had to respond. Out of all the people who have commented on this thread, judgemental arseholes are in the minority. Don't let them put you off! Grin Flowers x

IJustLostTheGame · 25/01/2016 14:48

Wow.
My teeth are clean.
But they aren't straight.
I have two baby teeth that fell out but didn't have big teeth underneath so I have gaps.
My NHS dentist doesn't deem them bad enough to fix.
My teeth aren't straight and at the time the NHS didn't consider them bad enough to straighten. My eye tooth is almost under my canine.
I have horrid teeth. I never smile in photos and these threars make me more self conscious.
YABU OP.
If they're clean they're good teeth.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/01/2016 14:52

Lilac. Grin.

thelouisee · 25/01/2016 14:55

"Take a loan out for your teeth." OK but how far do you go just to please some vain randomer?

Honestly, I would date someone "ugly" on the outside if they were were nice on the inside, as long as they were clean and hygienic. I wouldn't date someone so vain that they'd suggest someone takes a loan to sort out something aesthetic. You can't get a loan big enough to sort out that sort of grim attitude.

Kirkenes · 25/01/2016 15:12

I think if the OP had phrased her OP to say she found bad teeth unattractive she wouldn't have had such a bad response. I find bad teeth really unattractive. I'm not 'judging' the person unless it's to do with diet/smoking/dental hygiene.
I also find overweight unattractive. I just do. Confused If my DH put on loads of weight I'd carry on loving him but I would definitely find him a lot less attractive. I suppose if a whole load of his teeth fell out it would be the same.
BTW. My teeth are crap but they look ok. They have cost me thousands of pounds. I'm not sure how much I've spent on them but it's at least £15k not including checkups.

Mirror21 · 25/01/2016 15:13

Thanks Mavis appreciate the comment, I will smile broadly at you :)

wonderingsoul · 25/01/2016 15:42

Meh your shallow.

I have fault teeth on the upper... I hate hate hate it but do you know much implants cost they start at 1500 for ONE tooth... unless I win the lottery I won't be getting them any time soon. Iv allways brushed 2 times a day I just have shit teeth.

My partner has PERFECT teeth... and I mean amazing pure white.. straight.. A tractive teeth really.

I'm glad he's not shallow and can look past the fact I have a partical denture.

RavioliOnToast · 25/01/2016 15:48

Ugh, how vile is your attitude...

donadumaurier · 25/01/2016 15:57

It is NOT that bloody simple. I had chickenpox at 8 months old which caused a number of my adult teeth to develop without enamel. I've had 8 removed from the back, so not noticeable. Some of my front teeth are also lacking enamel and discoloured as a result, bleaching has helped but they will never look "normal." They are straight and in excellent condition, but I can't change the fact that I lost 8 and have those discoloured ones due to an illness beyond my control. I am self conscious enough without idiots like you.

You sound like a nasty piece of work and YABVVVU Angry

DragonMamma · 25/01/2016 16:07

I'm a bit shocked at people's responses. I get that the OP is being errr inflammatory but I do notice people's teeth and have wondered how some have gotten so bad.

Somebody at my place of work has teeth which are black and missing in places, the smell is dreadful, you can smell the decay and I'll admit to being put off in dealing with them as a result.

I don't necessarily notice missing teeth as much as I see dirty teeth, which clearly haven't been looked after.

ExConstance · 25/01/2016 16:11

NHS dentistry is not that expensive. If you have gaps you can have a bridge or a partial denture, that is what anyone who takes care of themselves and has any self esteem would do. I wouldn't date anyone who had missing teeth because it would mean that they had no self respect and probably were very poor at budgeting.

AgathaF · 25/01/2016 16:12

I reckon he's had a lucky escape.

donadumaurier · 25/01/2016 16:14

But missing teeth at the back though, you would have to be really, really scrutinising my appearance to realise they weren't there. Why bother with dentures when to normal people it isn't even noticeable? Let me guess, this is why I'm yet to manage a proper long term relationship, missing back teeth? Hmm
