To think that this is the end of women's athletics?

1000 replies

fidel1ne · 23/01/2016 21:38

And women's international sport generally?

Transgender competitors will be allowed to compete as the gender of their choosing pre-operatively and after just one year of hormone treatment.

Compete in 2020 as a woman ( so cross losing the ability to type)

TamaraLamara · 24/01/2016 09:45

This is not equality

Beautifully put. That's the whole issue in a nutshell.

FloraFox · 24/01/2016 09:48

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/maria-miller-says-only-hostility-to-transgender-report-came-from-women-purporting-to-be-feminists-a6830406.html

Look at the open hostility to women who express concerns about men being able to identify as women.

fidel1ne · 24/01/2016 09:52

'Purporting'?? Angry

HermioneWeasley · 24/01/2016 10:01

That independent article - WTAF?!

Yes women, how dare you have a view on your safety and services.

Why have so many people bought into "Transwomen are women"? If you stop and think about it for a minute it's clearly not true.

I am so fucking angry about this.

Peevedquitter · 24/01/2016 10:02

The fear of being labelled transphobic is why this has been allowed to happen it's like the scandal of the sex gangs in Rotheram continuing as people were petrified of being called racist.

NickiFury · 24/01/2016 10:08

I read this yesterday. I feel hopeless to be honest, despairing. No one gives a fuck. It's already reached Olympic level and been passed without any of us knowing it was being debated.

I'm up for joining a group though and trying to do something.

fidel1ne · 24/01/2016 10:11

Debated and passed in NOVEMBER Nicki, in fact.

I hadn't heard a word about it until yesterday. Everybody else here seems equally surprised (shocked).

That's deliberate stealth, I think.

Women as a group are not just being othered - we're becoming invisible.

Where's MrsG and her organisational zeal? Smile

In terms of sport, the addition of a third category as suggested above seems ideal - biological male, biological female, and open. People can compete either with their biological sex or in the open category.

Bambambini · 24/01/2016 10:16

"It's very interesting talking to teenagers: ime they only see the "rights for minorities" issue, they don't see the wider repercussions. They are very naive and presume that transwomen want to be ordinary, normal women, whereas it seem to me that the more vocal transwomen want to be anything but normal..

I have a horrible feeling it will take something like the women's 100m in the Olympics being won by a 6'7 obviously male transwomen for the penny to drop."

Maryz - exactly. I was niave and very pro trains being accepted - never imagining where it would lead. I think most folk out there are the same but the deeper issues just aren't being discussed or thougt about. I'm having a debate on another site with someone about this, I'm in the minority and already been called ignorant and a bigot for saying there is a difference between transwomen and women.

Bambambini · 24/01/2016 10:18

Mathew Wright, woohoo Mathew - come and have a gander.

I can see a boxing match between a heavyweight trans woman and woman being a tipping point. It would be horrendous

Equally the apparently tens of male prisoners suddenly becoming 'women' so they can transfer to female prisons

I think most people think trans women have had surgery. I certainly did. Most people have no idea you can say 'I'm a woman' and demand to be treated as such without any hormone therapy or surgery.

venusinscorpio · 24/01/2016 10:21

LOL. Maria Miller is a feminist now? My arse.

HumphreyCobblers · 24/01/2016 10:23

Yes, me too

I can't even read that Miller link

It's happened.

Google Fallon Fox. Military man, but since transitioning gets paid to batter women in women's MMA. Hates women and takes delight in spelling their blood. By own admission.

It's fucking horrendous.

But no one dares speak up.

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 10:25

She is surprised at the reacation. The fucking fool is in the wrong job, she admitted she was clueless about the trans issues now she's admitting she is clueless about women's issues. She needs sacking.

FloraFox · 24/01/2016 10:25

I think most people think transwomen are sexually attracted to men so not interested in women. This of course is not true, especially with late-transitioning autogynephiles.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 10:26

Maryz

She means anyone who identifies as female, who wants access to rape crisis centres or women's refuges. Fully functioning penises no problem. And if you don't like it, you're a mad transphobic radical feminist.

She's on another fucking planet.

At the time of the Caster Semanya cause celebre I had huge sympathy for Caster obviously, but also some sympathy for the IAAF. Her times had improved meteorically in the course of a year, suddenly bringing her to world class level. If that were attributable to her medical status then there are countries who'd immediately sweep the schoolrooms of the nation looking for girls with the same condition who they could start training, and the IAAF would naturally panic and think carefully about the implications of this, just in case they ended up with a situation where no girl with a standard hormonal profile could ever aspire to hit the world rankings.

Ironic really.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 10:30

Really??
