To think that this is the end of women's athletics?

fidel1ne · 23/01/2016 21:38

And women's international sport generally?

Transgender competitors will be allowed to compete as the gender of their choosing pre-operatively and after just one year of hormone treatment.

I have won a national title in my sport (fell running) men and women run together but the prizes titles are worked out separately. I would have maybe been 50th over a season if I had to compete with men. Would I have trained so hard if I had no chance of winning, how will this effect young women's attitude to sport. The Iranian women's football team story is very worrying. It is so telling that a country that has no regard for women's rights is leading the way with trans people in sport.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:07

This makes me so fucking angry.

What can we do? Can we draft a letter to send to all national women's sport organisations?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/01/2016 09:11

I don't suppose MNHQ would have the guts to stand behind this and make it a proper MN "campaign"?

A bit unfair to make assumptions of 'gutlessness' when nothing concrete has been suggested as of yet.

SouthPole · 24/01/2016 09:14

I think it's too hot a topic for MNHQ.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:14

ItsAll I've reported your post to ask if they will Smile

Kr1stina · 24/01/2016 09:14

Right , about my son . As far as I can see, all I have to do is get blood tests for him for the next 12 months . And after that he can compete as a girl ?

We have a problem once puberty hits, but he can compete as a girl until then, right ? And after puberty, he needs hormones treatment ?

Because I'm going to raise this with the national committee for our sport and I want to check I have my facts right . People need to understand the implications of these policies for born women and girls .

I know these are just Olympic guidelines right now, and they need to be adopted by European and national level organisations as well . But they usually follow quite quickly .

LagoonaBlu · 24/01/2016 09:16

How could a man, in all conscience, see this as a fair 'fight' - whether it be a fight/race?! Wouldn't you just be given the gold medal, or whatever, and be all shamefaced?!! WTF

south, its mystifying isn't it? I understand that the delusion is such that they believe they are actually biological women. But even still, they must surely see that having this 'incorrect' !male body is an unfair advantage? But as an example Fallon Fox clearly felt no shame. Why is the rest of the world buying into it?!?!?!

Geldings are still stronger than fillies

There is just a massive denial of the existence of biology at all Confused

Coldest · 24/01/2016 09:16

I m also confused by the terminology in social media. Trans women and non trans women making trans seem the norm. Shouldn't it be trans women and women?
Also how the hell do female athletes agree to this shit? What is the point? I would never agree to a fight with a man. That is shocking.

Because they're 'transphobic' if they don't Cold.

It's the age old thing of women putting up and shutting up so as not to upset the men.

TheWomanInTheWall · 24/01/2016 09:21

Coldest, then you would forfeit league points and lose money.

"I can think of no viable way for a competitor with the advantageous physical attributes associated with a male physiology to fairly compete against competitors who were born with a female physiology."

Well put.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:22

There is no way MN could or would stand behind a campaign.

At the moment there is a massive movement behind trans rights. Saying anything at all is seen to be the equivalent of being racist or homophobic.

Unless there is a mainstream backlash, this will continue.

This is exactly why places like mumsnet NEED to stand behind this.

It is wrong. It is NOT transphobic to state the gross unfairness of women being made to compete against born men.
AND I WILL NOT BE TOLD THAT IT IS TRANSPHOBIC.

nickdrakeslovechild · 24/01/2016 09:22

The world really is going mad. Count me in what can we do?

I heard Usain Bolt was seen with painted nails over Christmas.

Just sayin'...

fidel1ne · 24/01/2016 09:28

Well let's ask MNHQ and see what they say.

OP posts:
ChubbyChubster · 24/01/2016 09:31

I am utterly gobsmacked at this.

And even more gobsmacked that no one in authority is speaking out against this insanity. Scarily, I don't think anything will be done as the rabids will be loudly yelling 'transphobic' if anyone dare whisper against this.

I'm raising my hand too.

DeAtHnOtE · 24/01/2016 09:33

I am not up to date with MNHQ policy so to speak, but they are shit hot on the "mis-gendering" deletions and I recall the response that was not a response in relation to the use of "cis" towards posters who saw it as the equivalent of mis-gendering.

SurferJet · 24/01/2016 09:38

I'll sign whatever petition is set up & go on any march that's arranged - I'm absolutely disgusted at this. You know I used to laugh at the phrase 'the world's gone mad' - but it really has if born men are allowed to compete against women.
Angry Angry Angry Angry

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:39

I'm not standing for this. I'm not afraid of being called transphobic. I'm not. I'm PRO WOMEN and PRO EQUALITY.

This is not equality. This is putting women at a HUGE disadvantage and I WILL NOT stand by and allow it.

SouthPole · 24/01/2016 09:40

Being pro-women's rights doesn't make you opposed to everybody else's rights.

This, combined with louder and louder musings on whether men ought to be able to stay over on post-natal wards, just smacks of chip chip chipping away at women's rights and women's voices.

How dare they? I genuinely thought we were more enlightened in this day and age.

Cis my fucking (womanly) arse.

mudandmayhem01 · 24/01/2016 09:41

usain bolt could say he was a woman, take hormone treatment and compete in 2020 as a man. The 15-20 years of hard training with testosterone in his system would have had a massive effect on his bones, cardiovascular system etc. This is so obviously unfair and a joke, but doesn't break the rules.
