To think Miranda won't be funny in 10 years time?

I used to love Miranda. DD loved Miranda. I even took her plus a friend to see Miranda and had to wait a year after booking the bleeding tickets.

But I've just caught an episode (the one where she pretends to go on holiday) and it's just got a bit..... tired and dated. AIBU? I've got nothing against the girl. I think she was just a bit of a fad .

Fawlty Towers now probably would be deemed sexist thanks to the pc brigade who have no sense of humour.

I love the Father Ted episode with Victor Meldrew also in that episode Mrs Doyle gets into an argument over paying for the tea and Jack gets his glasses stolen and walks into an alcoholics annomynous meeting.

DottyBlue2 · 24/01/2016 12:39

Oh yes - I don't beleeeeeeve it! That was the episode that launched Graham Norton onto our screens. Did you know that Graham N studied at Central School of Speech & Drama?

Miranda is/was a poor man's Bridget Jones.

ComposHatComesBack · 24/01/2016 14:12

dotty I remember seeing him interviewed about his role as Father Noel. He was in Father Ted for about 10 minutes in total, but to this day people still talk to him about it far more than anything else he's done since.

Owllady · 24/01/2016 14:27

I thought Graham Norton had already been on that channel 5 talk show? With the other guy, who sadly also died

Owllady · 24/01/2016 14:28

Oh God I've just googled and apparently he's not dead Blush

NotDavidTennant · 24/01/2016 14:32

"That was the episode that launched Graham Norton onto our screens."

No, that was his third appearance in the show. He'd already been in the one where the stay in the caravan ("These ones are small, those ones out there are far away") and the one where they're on a plane.

CrystalMcPistol · 24/01/2016 14:36

Even picturing Fr Furlong riverdancing in the caravan makes me smile.

Wagglebees · 24/01/2016 19:51

Who did you think was dead, Owl?

I love Father Ted. I don't think there's been a sitcom as good since.

mudandmayhem01 · 24/01/2016 20:03

If it is the finest moment of graham Norton's career he should be able to die a happy man. That caravan scene is the single funniest thing I have ever seen.

DottyBlue2 · 25/01/2016 14:53

Ok, you pedantic lot - the Father Ted episodes IN GENERAL.

Jack Docherty was the talk show host. I used to work in the building next door to the Whitehall Theatre where it was filmed so I used to see the posters but never saw anyone famous - unless you count Lofty from Eastenders who once did a show there and I was once in the swimming pool at the same time as him at the Jubilee gym.

But sadly never Graham Norton. Who stole the show and ruined Jack Docherty's career, so much so that we a) don't remember who he was b) if we do, we think he's dead.

Since no-one else has mentioned it I'd like to big up Still Game - though it's very Glaswegian.

I love Still Game. I'm from the English midlands and I've only been to Glasgow a few times, but I think the humour is universal. It led me to get some kld DVDs of Chewin the fat and Burnistoun, too. That voice operated lift, and the Air Traffic Control pranks are comedy gold.

helenahandbag · 25/01/2016 15:38

Still Game is absolutely hilarious. I'm from Edinburgh though have lived in Glasgow for three years and I still laugh at the same jokes ten years on.

Jack Docherty Blush

batshitlady · 25/01/2016 17:13

I've decided I hate all comedy!

DottyBlue2 · 25/01/2016 20:13

owllady - who was it who you thought had died? grammar police alert

My husband is convinced that Caroline Quentin has died because she was once married to Paul Merton and Paul Merton's wife very sadly died. He gets very confused when she appears on the tellybox.

I thought Jack Docherty had died Blush
Lovely Caroline is thankfully still with us :)

Dotty - who was it who you thought had died? grammar police alert

I have a chronic illness which causes severe cognitive dysfunction particular in the language area of my brain. Before getting this illness I worked in a field where grammar and word recall etc was important so it's a particularly distressing symptom for me to deal with. So thank you for pointing out my grammar mistake, that's really kind and hasn't made me feel stupid at all.

Owllady · 26/01/2016 09:00

Waggle, I don't think that was aimed at you was it? I think it was aimed at herself
I didn't actually do grammar at school though, from what I remember. I think I'm from that generation Blush or I might just have gone to a crap school....

Wagglebees · 26/01/2016 09:27

Owl Oh god, maybe. Blush My brain isn't working very well today. I've no idea now.

My apologies if I got that wrong Dotty. It's a raw nerve atm.

I still don't know who Jack Docherty is.

Wagglebees · 26/01/2016 09:29

BlushBlush

Owllady · 26/01/2016 09:39

:o
He's the guy who did the late night show on channel 5 years ago Graham Norton stood in for him and proved rather more popular! Iirc. I have brain fog too. It's like I've woken up and I'm nearly 40 Confused

rosebiggs · 26/01/2016 12:56

I've just googled jack docherty. I have absolutely no memory of his show although I must have watched it.

batshitlady · 26/01/2016 13:12

JD had a chat show that was on every night back in the early days of Channel 5. I don't think it was late night though Owllady?

He did a comedy on radio 4 a couple of years ago about a middle aged couple who were bored with each other.. (the name escapes me). Very funny though, I thought. I like him....
