To think Miranda won't be funny in 10 years time?

I used to love Miranda. DD loved Miranda. I even took her plus a friend to see Miranda and had to wait a year after booking the bleeding tickets.

But I've just caught an episode (the one where she pretends to go on holiday) and it's just got a bit..... tired and dated. AIBU? I've got nothing against the girl. I think she was just a bit of a fad .

Nope, never got it at all. Total cringe fest.

ouryve · 21/01/2016 23:58

I think it was always meant to be cringy, with more than a nod to farce, but all the jokes got worn out in the first series, really.

Never found people falling over funny and that seemed to be the extent of her act.

ComposHatComesBack · 22/01/2016 00:15

I found Miranda about as entertaining as a rectal examination.

It is all quite forced. I get that it is supposed to be an homage to the traditional British sitcom and has strong elements of farce (so in that sense was knowingly 'old fashioned' when it was first made) but it just doesn't do it very well.

Slapstick isn't really my thing admittedly but, she hasn't really got good comic timing. Weak material, poorly delivered. There's only so many times you can watch her fall over before it becomes tedious.

At least with Patricia Hodge and Sally Phillips they can deliver weak material wonderfully.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/01/2016 00:18

Yabu

Miranda has never and will never be funny.

treacledan71 · 22/01/2016 06:22

Peter Kay started to get a bit stale for a little bit at one point but turned it round big time with car share. He is generally just funny though. I like Miranda. Perhaps she needs some new material though.

Stanky · 22/01/2016 06:51

I never did find her funny, but fair play to her in Call the midwife.

I thought that Peter Kay's car share seemed 15 years old when I watched it as well. I didn't find it funny at all. I didn't laugh once at his 2012 stand up dvd either. May be it's me?

I don't ever want to watch The Office any more, I just seem to think of it as depressing. I know that a David Brent movie is coming out later this year, but I'm just not feeling it.

On a positive note, I will definitely still laugh at Only fools and horses (up to 1996), Red Dwarf (up to series 6) and Blackadder (series 2,3 and 4).

redexpat · 22/01/2016 06:58

Love Miranda. Clearly you all have normal mothers, and not ones who overshare and preface every noun with what i like to call a.

Have never liked Mrs Browns Boys, nor only fools and horses.

CreviceImp · 22/01/2016 07:02

Miranda is abysmal as is Mrs Brown's boys.

Cockney Nan however is genius!

CreviceImp · 22/01/2016 07:04

Only Fools and Horses is STILL wonderful.

londonrach · 22/01/2016 07:04

Snot funny now. Watched it once and turned off after 5 minutes.

londonrach · 22/01/2016 07:05

Not not snot

Helmetbymidnight · 22/01/2016 07:07

Most comedies don't stand the test of time so I think you're right.

However I like her.

Bunbaker · 22/01/2016 07:08

I still find her funny. We watched last Christmas's episodes again recently and howled with laughter at them.

I don't like Mrs Brown's Boys at all. It's too contrived, and obviously aimed at the American market.

MTPurse · 22/01/2016 07:13

If I see Miranda on tv my auto response is to turn over immediately, I have never really understood the hype about her, She reminds me of one of the terrible acts on Britons got talent or x factor the kind where no one has actually told her how bad she is but let her audition anyway for a laugh.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 22/01/2016 07:15

It's not funny now. I really don't understand what people see in the programme.

Imustgodowntotheseaagain · 22/01/2016 07:22

I can't watch Only Fools, Del Boy is so awful to Rodney! I know it's only for fun, but for some reason i take it personally. The scene with the chandeliers is genius though.

Miranda isn't funny. 'Oh look, i'm a really tall woman, isn't that a laugh.'

NantucketNightbird · 22/01/2016 07:27

I have to agree it is awful, makes me cringe and I've never seen a full episode. Only fools and horses, the office and extras are funny fact

LastInTheQueue · 22/01/2016 07:33

Nope, not funny.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2016 07:39

I saw the OP and thought there would be loads of 'well she's not funny now'.

I watched the series once, laughed a bit but haven't watched it again. I am a bit like that with comedy though. Del Boy falling through the bar was vaguely funny the very first time but once I knew what was coming not funny at all.

There's not much comedy I can watch again and again and still roar. Rik Mayall being one exception.

cdtaylornats · 22/01/2016 07:39

Bunbaker - Mrs Brown isn't aimed at America, most of the stuff in the first two series was lifted straight from the stage shows which toured in the UK and occasionally in Canada and Australia.

I used to go see them in Glasgow at the Pavilion, every house was packed and it was great fun. Not so good now its in the SECC which is just too big.

As far as Miranda goes the only funny thing she ever did was Call the Midwife.

Youarentkiddingme · 22/01/2016 07:41

I find it funny. I find her ability to capture the inner most thoughts of woman and the embarrassing moments very clever. she takes everyday life and shows how it can be funny.

I loved her book too. So insightful and I think she's a genius at reading people and being able to judge the thoughts of a sub section of society.

I don't find Mrs Browns Boys funny. I use to enjoy Ab Fab but don't find it funny now. I've never stopped finding the Vicer of Dibly or Only fools and horses completely hilarious.

MuttonDressedAsMutton · 22/01/2016 07:44

I found Miranda about as entertaining as a rectal examination - this, but add 'performed with a knobbly stick' Grin

Dad's Army, Only Fools, Yes Minister - these things are funny decades on and new generations watching will keep them alive. Miranda isn't even in the queue to join the same league as classics like that.

AGreatBigWorld · 22/01/2016 07:44

Dont find her funny as a comedian..............BUT LOVED her as Chummy in Call The Midwife!
