To not move on the train?

1004 replies

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 12:30

I was on a very busy packed train with my friend and DS. DS was in a sling, we had the buggy and I was feeding him. We were standing by the doors (no one offered us seats!) trying to feed a screaming baby, penned in by others standing. There was no where we could go.

People tried to push past us to get out the doors and nearly sent DS flying. I firmly asked if they could use one of the other doors and I literally couldn't go anywhere. Cue mutterings and dirty looks!

We couldn't collapse the pram there wasn't room to do and as no one had offered a seat we couldn't move anywhere! WIBU to ask them to use another door?

'Non London' is my new favourite saying Grin

The OP has told us that she got on a busy train and didn't fold her buggy, but instead blocked the door. Lots of other people had to get in after her but were squashed in the doorway, presumably because the OP was also blocking them from moving up to stand in the aisle away from the door. Then she got annoyed that people wanted to Shock get off the train and told them all to use the other door.

I'd imagine a lot of people went home complaining about the selfish woman on the train with the baby, buggy and more shopping than she could reasonably handle.

Sunnybitch · 12/01/2016 19:19

You in tha valley's hamaGrin

goodnightdarthvader1 · 12/01/2016 19:20

How old are you, OP? Have you worked? Have you commuted by train before?

BorderTerrierControl · 12/01/2016 19:20

Oh sorry Pike! Getting my Privates all mixed up Grin

OP it's cool. Londoners just don't get that buggies are only ever folded in London. Nobody else in the entire country has enough common sense to fold a buggy on a crowded train. Ever. It's never happened, hence you never witnessing it. And having never witnessed such aberrant behaviour, it's only natural that you would block the exit rather than fold yours.

Bloody Londoners and their smug folding buggies.

TamaraLamara · 12/01/2016 19:20

I don't know how hard it is to say "Maybe next time I'll do it differently"

That's the obvious thing, isn't it. Most people would look back and think 'What a crappy experience. I should have realised that rush hour train + buggy + numerous bags was going to be a disaster. Oh well, chalk it up to experience and plan differently next time.'

Not 'ALL COMMUTERS ARE MIDDLE-AGED MIDDLE-CLASS TWATS!!!!!! AND ALL BECAUSE I HAD THE AUDACITY TO HAVE A BABY!!!!!!'

I do kind of admire the OP's repeated conviction that the rest of the world is wrong and her refusal to consider that any part of her behaviour might have been anything less than exemplary. Well done, OP Grin

bessiebumptious2 · 12/01/2016 19:20

OP, are you too lazy to bother folding your buggy? Is that what the real problem is? Couldn't you be bothered because you have lazyitis?

sugar21 · 12/01/2016 19:20

I'm Non London because I live in the arse end of the back of beyond, buggies haven't been invented here, we are soooo country.

kali110 · 12/01/2016 19:22

No you just want everyone here who disagrees with you to be from London so you can feel less unreasonable

Not from London, only been a few times in my teens so you're very very wrong!

TamaraLamara · 12/01/2016 19:25

Also not from London Grin

Sunnybitch · 12/01/2016 19:25

What are these folding things you speak of Hmm

PersephonePitstop · 12/01/2016 19:25

you just want everyone here who disagrees with you to be from London so you can feel less unreasonable

Sorry to disappoint you OP but despite thinking YWBU, I'm not from London.

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 19:26

I've never seen anyone fold a buggy except me on a train. I have folded it on busy trains but it's difficult to do and I don't see why I should, particularly when no one else does either..

But you were on a busy train and you didn't fold it Confused

Sparklycat · 12/01/2016 19:28

^I don't see why I should fold my buggy on a busy train
^
Oh OP

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 12/01/2016 19:30

Threads like this make me wonder if we need to replace AIBU with a 'Validate Me' section. It could have special rules that no one is allowed to do anything other than agree with an OP no matter what nonsense they post.

Then the rest of us could just hide it.

Only1scoop · 12/01/2016 19:31

This is very funny

Op clearly yanbu

Because you don't think you are.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/01/2016 19:33

Good grief... Hmm Pathetic. People are right though, op does sound very young. Very 'I know best' and all that shit. Get a grip. If you can't see how immature and ridiculous you sound then you have bigger issues than the perils of buggies on public transport.

Roussette · 12/01/2016 19:34

So are you honestly saying TheCats that you've never seen anyone fold up a buggy??? I think you need to get out more!

I'm completely the opposite. If a train is really quiet I have seen baby in buggy all fine. But if trains are busy I have never ever ever seen anyone feel entitled enough to leave their buggy up when there is no need.

FatherReboolaConundrum · 12/01/2016 19:34

'Non London' is my new favourite saying

London/Non-London is the new U/Non-U

Folding buggies: L
Non-folding buggies: Non-L

Luggage racks with luggage: L
Strange shelf things on trains that no-one knows what to do with: Non-L

Anyone who disagrees with OP: L
Real people: Non-L

Roussette · 12/01/2016 19:34

StepAway [grin Grin yes!

Sunnybitch · 12/01/2016 19:36

OK hands up who will be looking for the op by the doors next time you get on a train Grin

lorelei9 · 12/01/2016 19:38

Maybe it’s becorse I’m a Lahdahner
I think prams fold right down
Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner
I Tube all over town
I get a panicked feeling inside of me
When train exits are blocked
Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner
Your OP left me shocked.

(NB I don't think London has anything to do with this debate, I'm just killing time waiting to meet someone down pub).

Only1scoop · 12/01/2016 19:39

It'll be like Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding doors.

Only Op will be blocking the exit with breast n buggy.
