To not move on the train?

1004 replies

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 12:30

I was on a very busy packed train with my friend and DS. DS was in a sling, we had the buggy and I was feeding him. We were standing by the doors (no one offered us seats!) trying to feed a screaming baby, penned in by others standing. There was no where we could go.

People tried to push past us to get out the doors and nearly sent DS flying. I firmly asked if they could use one of the other doors and I literally couldn't go anywhere. Cue mutterings and dirty looks!

We couldn't collapse the pram there wasn't room to do and as no one had offered a seat we couldn't move anywhere! WIBU to ask them to use another door?

I'm the only person I've ever seen trying to fold a buggy. not every location does things the way they do in London

Stop bleating about places not being like London.

Everyone comments according to their own experience.
Not everyone commenting is from London.
Everyone apart from you thinks you are being unreasonable whether they are from London or not.

I'm not from London.

They fold here.

Jux · 12/01/2016 19:12

I'm not in London.

GenevaMaybe · 12/01/2016 19:12

I commute every day on heaving London trains. If I got on with my baby and she needed a feed then I would get off, sit on a bench and do it, or wait for a less crowded train. No way I would block the doors with her which is really annoying for other people and also potentially unsafe and uncomfortable for both of us.

YABU.

Shadow1986 · 12/01/2016 19:12

The doors could have closed before the people got their way through the carriage to the other door so yes yabu.

Next time just ask if someone would mind giving you a seat, fold your buggy down, and also don't be afraid to leave your child crying a few seconds longer until the people have got past you. If your baby has got to the stage of screaming hungry then that could be bad planning sorry to say.

Sunnybitch · 12/01/2016 19:12

Me either

53rdAndBird · 12/01/2016 19:13

Where in the country are you, OP?

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 19:13

A couple of people agreed with me however I do think most posters are from London as I don't know anywhere else this ridiculous about public transport

OP posts:
Oakmaiden · 12/01/2016 19:13

Obvious really. The OP couldn't fold the buggy because it was full of shopping. And stuff.

I don't know how hard it is to say "Maybe next time I'll do it differently", OP. Will you do it differently next time? Or are you so convinced in the rightness of your situation, and the callousness of everyone else in the world on the train that next time you will do it the same way because you have the RIGHT to?

Funinthesun15 · 12/01/2016 19:13

Nope not from London or even anywhere near it

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 12/01/2016 19:13

I've never gotten on public transport with a buggy and not folded it. I'm not in London either.

sunseeker66 · 12/01/2016 19:14

Just wanted to add my YABU to the hundreds of others.

My DH is a train driver and he would have told you to move if he had seen a similar situation. You cannot block exits.

How can you possibly know that Hmm

Oh and I'm not from London either.

Moln · 12/01/2016 19:14

What strange land do you live in OP? This land where you are the only one who almost folds buggies.

Nottodaythankyouorever · 12/01/2016 19:15

All fold here.

Not from London

Roussette · 12/01/2016 19:16

I'm not from London. I always folded when out and about with DCs the age of yours.

HamaTime · 12/01/2016 19:16

I'm not in London, or anywhere near. We still have coal mines here.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/01/2016 19:16

Op, I've probably been one of the most vocal against your shit. Like I've said, I'm from Edinburgh. So bang goes that theory. Honestly... Fucking mental this.

SoupDragon · 12/01/2016 19:17

You have no idea where they are from.

Still as a Londoner, I am glad we aren't as bloody selfish as to block doors with buggies here. We also don't seem to be so precious about folding buggies. However, I suspect that not every non-Londoner is selfish and pig headed.

Moln · 12/01/2016 19:17

I'm not from London either. I have been on trains in London though. Strikingly similar to trains else where in non London places.

BoGrainger · 12/01/2016 19:17

I feel an MN spreadsheet coming on....

bessiebumptious2 · 12/01/2016 19:18

Not in London here either. Am, however, in a very civilised place where people fold and are considerate to the needs of those around them.
