To not move on the train?

I was on a very busy packed train with my friend and DS. DS was in a sling, we had the buggy and I was feeding him. We were standing by the doors (no one offered us seats!) trying to feed a screaming baby, penned in by others standing. There was no where we could go.

People tried to push past us to get out the doors and nearly sent DS flying. I firmly asked if they could use one of the other doors and I literally couldn't go anywhere. Cue mutterings and dirty looks!

We couldn't collapse the pram there wasn't room to do and as no one had offered a seat we couldn't move anywhere! WIBU to ask them to use another door?

Jw35 thank you. I'm still having a crap day, made worse by keyboard warriors constantly shouting BUT WHY DIDNT YOU DO X at me.

I thought other parents would be supportive. Obviously not as this is MN, where we happily rip into each other

To be fair, you can't come onto AIBU and then be surprised if you get lots of people telling you you're BU.

If you wanted to support, you could have posted in chat. I think you posted in AIBU to get a 'fuck commuters' response and are now annoyed because you didn't get it.

Next time you 'know' you're not being unreasonable, I suggest you avoid AIBU. You've had 544 responses, 99% of which have told you you're BU. But you're being very graceless and not acknowledging any culpability.

I commute by train twat and I live a good long way from that London.

There is always a guard (you can buy tickets from them)

'Packed' means no seats - we don't get SE packed up here. Even at rush hour people rarely stand unless through choice.

People use luggage racks

People fold buggies. I have never seen an unfolded buggy on a train ever.

If there were swarms of seated people getting up and trying to get off at the blocked door there would be a good minute of confusion as to why people weren't budging. By the time the people at the end of the queue and done a 180 and trooped down the carriage to get off at the other door and then be faced with the swarms getting on (to take all the seats) and shoved the way to the other door, the door would have closed and we would be halfway to Leeds.

YABU in so many ways

OP can't be as unreasonable as she seems, she must have just explained the situation poorly and everyone is misunderstanding the situation.
But then OP keeps replying and arguing! Argh! TWENTY THREE PAGES!

tiggerkid · 12/01/2016 17:48

It's a very tricky situation but I am sorry to say I think it was quite unreasonable to get onto a fully packed train with unfolded buggy and expect people to move across the carriage to get to another door to get off. Remember that the train didn't suddenly become empty when all those people had to leave.

It's equally shameful that nobody gave up their seats but at the same time trains also typically run to schedule and it is possible to plan your day such that you are at the station well in advance to fold buggies and even get a seat or feed hungry children before getting onto the train. By getting on a tightly packed train, parents with small children as well as pregnant women make their own choice to endanger themselves and their children. I commute to London for work and can honestly say that when you travel like a tinned sardine, which we very sadly often do, it's not even always possible to see who requires a seat. Also, I might be misunderstanding something but if someone did manage to give up their seat, how would it be possible to fold the buggy then to get across to it?

Sometimes peak hour trains are impossible to travel on with small children or when you are pregnant, which is why it's best to either get there early or wait for the next one.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 12/01/2016 17:48

I think I was U not to ask anyone to move but I think it's bad people don't offer tbh

But you still don't think you were unreasonable to block the exit?

I would have parked it where it was. I don't mind people climbing over it or stepping on it I mind people pushing past me when I can't move anywhere

Chipped Shock

HamaTime · 12/01/2016 17:53

you don't mind people having to climb over or stand on your buggy to get off the train?

That's alright then Hmm

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/01/2016 17:55

Train doors open on the left ....Park buggy on the right

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 12/01/2016 17:56

Aibu? Yes, YABU.

donadumaurier · 12/01/2016 17:56

So the pram has nothing to do with it, the problem is people pushing past YOU?

Welcome to public transport. If you're a bit of a special snowflake, don't use trains! Hmm

ItchyArmpits · 12/01/2016 17:56

Don't call me a bitch... you boring arse.

Seriously?

If you want people to behave a certain way it is best to demonstrate that behaviour yourself.

Chippednailvarnish · 12/01/2016 17:57

I think the glue explains the batshit Paul.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 12/01/2016 17:58

I don't mind people climbing over it or stepping on it

If I had to step trip over someone's buggy to get off I would have thrown it off the fucking train.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/01/2016 17:59

Chipped 😂😂😂

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 17:59

If you threw my buggy off a train you'd have gotten a slap darth, so if you want to be needlessly aggressive don't worry I can easily play that game Smile

OP posts:
handslikecowstits · 12/01/2016 18:00

sighs

Just fold the buggy next time OP. Really. Then no one will need to be upset.

TheCatsMeow · 12/01/2016 18:01

itchy so it's okay to call me a bitch but I retaliate and I'm in the wrong? K.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 12/01/2016 18:01

I didn't fold it beforehand because while I was trying to the train came so I didn't have time.

I normally look at the board to check when my train is due. Did you not do that, OP? Did the arrival of your train take you completely by surprise?

If you take nothing else away from this thread, OP, at least commit to planning your journey next time, so that you know how much time you have to do the things you need to do, making the whole experience that little bit more pleasant for everyone.
