Bit of a strange way to react to the death of a stranger I guess but I am such a fan of his. I kinda cried like a family member had died! In my defence I am pregnant so I could just blame hormones Wink

I'm surprised at how upset I felt.

I'll never forget him putting his round Mick Ronson on Top of the Pops. It's hard to believe what a fuss it caused at the time. Absolutely marvellous moment and I'm so glad I was there to see it.

Sallystyle · 11/01/2016 14:22

Thanks to everyone who is really upset by his death.

I have a friend who is completely gutted and is taking the news really hard.

I personally think he was an amazingly talented man but the news didn't hit me as hard as it has many, but I certainly have artists who I know I will be a mess over when they die, because what their music represents to me and the memories and also the fact that that music helped me through the bad times, so I completely understand why people are so devastated by his loss.

Rest in Peace Bowie

I met him in my previous line of work about 13/14 years ago now, he was completely normal. He took up The invitation to meet the staff, pose for photographs and spent ages drinking and talking with us in our social area after hours. He didn't act like some stars we met. Back then I didn't know his music well, but sort it out after meeting him.

A lot of the older managers were awestruck and if I had known quite how much of a legend he was I think I would've been a gibbering wreck.

Lots of people I know sharing their personal snaps on FB.

I did cry today, I completely love his music.

In my mind there is only one true legend left now, Paul McCartney, but I can't warm to him as much as Bowie.

That's an unfortunate if comedic missing word. Grin

They'll never be another. When I think back to my childhood it's to a David Bowie soundtrack.. My sis' went to see him at Hammersmith Odeon and I remember so desperately wanting to go with her.. But I was too young and my mum wouldn't let me go..

I remember my first bedsit flat, my flatmate and I listening to Heroes over and over, spiking our hair up like his and oh the glitter. I'm welling up, farewell David,, they'll never be another like you... It feels like an entire era is starting to slip from living memory now.

evilcherub · 11/01/2016 14:45

I think his death signals the end of an era which a lot of grew up with. It feels like the door is shutting forever on something and I suppose for a lot of us it is a sad sign that we are getting older and the influences of our younger selves are dead or dying.

being replaced by a very nasty, selfish, shallow culture

Nasty, selfish, shallow, self-obsessed culture of people who think the world and everything in it revolves around them.

Thank you OnlyLovers Grin Blush

It was of course, just his arm. Mind you, such was the outrage, you'd have been forgiven for thinking it was something unmentionable!

cittigirl · 11/01/2016 14:56

I've shed a few years on and off all day since I heard and feel tearful. I don't normally get like this usually but his death has really shocked me. I only saw his new video on his birthday and read all the lyrics so to his new album this morning. Very sad. What a parting gift.Sad

goodnightdarthvader1 · 11/01/2016 14:56

Flo well, there was the guitar incident on tour ...

cittigirl · 11/01/2016 14:58

I meant tears. Years would be nice!!

breezeharbour · 11/01/2016 14:58

I was born in the 80s so I grew up listening to him as my parents played his albums a lot.

I can't claim to be a die-hard fan but the songs I did like, I loved, and they were part of my soundtrack to a very difficult teenage life.

I think it's lovely that his music helped so many people, there really will be no one else like him.

Hopefully when my DD is older she will enjoy listening to his music too.

Floisme · 11/01/2016 14:59

I think I must have missed that, darth!

goodnightdarthvader1 · 11/01/2016 15:01

No way, Flo, it's famous! Ronson was playing guitar and Bowie got down in front of him and put his mouth around the guitar strings where Ronson's crotch was.

Pannn it' was on mine! - and I'm not positive but I thought it was on the Hunky Dory LP too but could be wrong.

Floisme · 11/01/2016 15:09

Fabulous, darth no I completely missed that at the time, thank you!

OnlyLovers · 11/01/2016 15:10

Flo, that's why it's so funny. Grin

Floisme · 11/01/2016 15:13

I know Grin
Thank you for making me laugh!

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/01/2016 15:17

David Bowie changed the direction of my life. I made a very big decision based on listening to Life on Mars.

Thanks David; it all worked out swimmingly. Flowers

Pannn · 11/01/2016 15:17

damn cat, I was hoping it was unique. Or almost unique.Smile

Pannn · 11/01/2016 15:19

am at work, and team leader, and have said I am only responding to emails IF they contain a reference to a Dave Bowie song lyric.

They're a young lot so it's all gone quiet.....

Genius. I'm convinced there is a Bowie lyric for every occasion.

Fent0n · 11/01/2016 15:39

I like that, Pann - they'll all be googling like made won't they, or alternatively you might have a peaceful afternoon.

I absolutely love you ;) (might not go down so well in the office!)

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 11/01/2016 15:51

Yanbu. My local radio station is playing a Bowie song every hour, so I'm feeling tinges of sadness every so often.

He was magical, so to me he'll never die. Star Ziggy Star
