Bit of a strange way to react to the death of a stranger I guess but I am such a fan of his. I kinda cried like a family member had died! In my defence I am pregnant so I could just blame hormones Wink

My entire FB feed is full of crying men as well as women, so no need to feel embarassed about being sad (a lot of my friends are musicians or in and around the music business and many of them are in their 40s/50s so all of us are upset about someone who did loom large in our lives.)

Agreed MrsDV. I fear there will be many.

AnyFucker · 11/01/2016 10:11

Me too, MrsDV

""69 is so young nowadays too
unless you have taken as many drugs as he did.""

Or had Cancer, you cunt (MN happy to be deleted).

YANBU. I was writing a note for school when it came on the news. I lost all train of thought & had tears in my eyes. I grew up listening to Bowie as my Dad always had music playing.

I'm another that cried when Terry Pratchett died too. Sad

Branleuse · 11/01/2016 10:14

ive been crying all morning too. He was still creating till the end. A massive loss to the world.

ChuckitintheBucket · 11/01/2016 10:16

Well there's always one isn't there.

An absolute legend. Feeling a bit tearful, but he left behind some amazing music. RIP David Bowie.

IPityThePontipines · 11/01/2016 10:16

No! I hadn't heard about it until now. Sad

YANBU, nothing wrong with being saddened by the death of someone who meant a lot to you.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 11/01/2016 10:17

Agree with MrsDV that some people can just take you back to a time and place that means something to you...

For me, I loved 'China Girl' most and today feels weird. You just think that some people are timeless and will live forever. He's left a great legacy though.

sugar21 · 11/01/2016 10:18

He is a Star Man now
Cancer does not discriminate ,you never know what's around the corner and ANYONE can get it.

Thaila · 11/01/2016 10:18

Its very sad. When someone is this famous and you've grown up with their music, you feel like you know them personally and it's only natural to be upset when they pass away.

ButtonMoon88 · 11/01/2016 10:19

I cried.

There was never any body like him and I'm not sure there ever will be.

He was more than just a fantastic performer, he provided the soundtrack to millions of lives. I haven't even had the chance to listen to everything he has ever recorded yet!

He introduced me to some phenomenonal music and I am truly devastated today.

EightYearsWasted · 11/01/2016 10:19

Gutted. He was an absolute hero of mine. Saw him on the Serious Moonlight tour, a true icon.

ICanSeeForMiles · 11/01/2016 10:20

Only yesterday I listened to an amazing a capella version of Under Pressure and it made me emotional, his voice was just incredible. Sad times Sad

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 11/01/2016 10:20

Have been crying on and off since the news broke on 6music. I am also quite shocked by my own reaction, not being one to shed tears for people I don't personally know.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 11/01/2016 10:20

Piss off, passive, unless you can medically prove a link between drug taking and cancer. My mum had cancer and she never took illegal drugs in her life.

I'm genuinely devastated. He was someone I had a crush on all my life, was a huge creative influence in my pre-teen and teen years. I feel sad I'll have to introduce his creativity to my DD as this "amazing bloke, but he's dead now." 69 is far too young. I wonder what kind of cancer it was.

I've not cried yet (I cried when Diana died, weirdly), but I feel really fucking sad.

srslylikeomg · 11/01/2016 10:20

So enigmatic and creative, right to the end. What an artist. Shit day. What a bloody shame.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 11/01/2016 10:21

I've adored David Bowie since seeing him in Labyrinth as a child. I love that film and I love his music. I know all good things have to come to an end but it is a shame Bowie's end came far too soon and to such a vile, indiscriminate illness.

I'm not normally one to get all profound about a celebrity death. But his has touched me.

Rip Starman.

DramaAlpaca · 11/01/2016 10:21

YANBU. I've just heard the news and I'm feeling a bit teary, which is most unlike me in these situations. Some people touch your life, and he did mine.

Ditto.

Also ditto.

:(

MadamCroquette · 11/01/2016 10:22

I wasn't even a fan especially but this gave me such a shock. David Bowie!?

I feel terrible for him that he had to go when he was obviously still having new ideas and doing creative things. And for his kids, especially as one is still a teenager.

RIP Flowers

SurlyValentine · 11/01/2016 10:25

Thank God I'm not the only one. I never saw him on stage, and the only album I've got is a greatest hits one, but I feel really really sad.

It's people like him who should be going into their eighties and beyond, still being creative and pushing boundaries, not succumbing to some shit disease before they're even 70.

Rest in peace Jareth.

liz70 · 11/01/2016 10:26

The trolls are nobodies, their remarks of less weight than a gnat's fart. Nobody has had a greater influence on British music in the last 50 years and the debt owed to Bowie is immeasurable. R.I.P. Starman.
