Bit of a strange way to react to the death of a stranger I guess but I am such a fan of his. I kinda cried like a family member had died! In my defence I am pregnant so I could just blame hormones Wink

It is sad - I liked his music - big part of my adolescence - and it's a shame there will be no more

It's terribly sad for his family and friends

TamaraLamara · 11/01/2016 09:30

YANBU. 'Genius' is an over-used term, but utterly appropriate in Bowie's case.

69 is so young nowadays too.

Sad
JimmyGreavesMoustache · 11/01/2016 09:30

I've had a tear in my ear too. So sad. Thinking of his family.

DisappointedOne · 11/01/2016 09:31

Nope. I'm a mess.

HumphreyCobblers · 11/01/2016 09:32

I cried too. I listen to his music almost daily. It is really sad to think that he isn't in the world any more, making music and being exceptionally cool.

SomebodySedateMe · 11/01/2016 09:37

They played the Lazarus video on the news and I lost it.

liz70 · 11/01/2016 09:41

Definitely not. Without Bowie there would be no modern British music. :-(

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 11/01/2016 09:41

I am very eye pricky...and I never get involved in celebrity stuff

I remember being in awe of Major Tom on TOTP, discovering and loving everything he did when I was a teen, and dh bought me some LPs yes...I AM that old

I have the greatest hits CD more or less on repeat in the car, am so glad DD has my car today, or I am sure I'd be making a show of myself sobbing in Lidl carpark

Gutted! Waahhhh!! :(

DeAtHnOtE · 11/01/2016 09:45

I shed a tear. I'd usually say I'm not one for 'celebrity' but I also cried when Terry Pratchet died, but then so did my DH and DS.

I think it's a sadness for the person and their family, plus the loss of some genius that touched your life, part of your childhood or youth. Bowie reminds me of driving in the car with my Dad and those are already emotional memories for me.

DoreenLethal · 11/01/2016 09:45

I am not pregnant and have been in tears for nearly 3 hours so far.

I am so glad I am not having to go to work today.

I remember when Lennon dies, I was at school and tears kept coming [I was a huge Beatles fan all my life] and got shouted at by the teacher.

I am going to need alot of coffee to get through today. 6 music is on and every song is just setting me off again. I may go for a run later, clear my head before the man comes to mend my van.

yanniwoo · 11/01/2016 09:47

YADNBU. I feel numb.

DangerMouth · 11/01/2016 09:48

DH just told me as l hadn't had a chance to look at MN this morning (my news source Smile)

Very sad, and pp is right, 69 is no old these days.

Nowthereistwo · 11/01/2016 09:51

My mum is a huge Bowie fan and brought us up on his music.

She's just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was on talking yesterday about getting his new cd.

He was a big part of growing up and great memories with family.

i cried when Geoff Hamiliton died (gardener), I feel i will react the same when Bruce Springsteen dies so not all all, blub away.
(ok now totally outed myself)

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 11/01/2016 10:00

69 is so young nowadays too
unless you have taken as many drugs as he did.

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2016 10:01

I blubbed all the way home from the school run trying and failing to sing along to Heroes on the radio.

YANBU David Bowie is a celebrity deserving of tears. The news was such a shock.

iPaid · 11/01/2016 10:02

YANBU.

OnlyLovers · 11/01/2016 10:03

YANBU. He leaves a huge gap, musically and artistically.

And then of course you think of his family and friends.

I'm quite teary listening to 6Music, who are just playing him and related music all day in between interviews, sessions etc.

Yep this is the first stranger I've ever cried over (heavily pregnant though). He was a complete legend.

what cancer he died from? The recent pictures of him and the relative short illness suggests pancreatic cancer to me (my dad of that).

BathshebaDarkstone · 11/01/2016 10:05

YANBU. I cried when Freedom Mercury died, and, more embarrassingly, and Brian Redhead.

AnyFucker · 11/01/2016 10:05

Yanbu

SomebodySedateMe · 11/01/2016 10:08

passive no need for that.

BathshebaDarkstone · 11/01/2016 10:09

Where did that extra and come from. Stupid fucking tablet. Also can only do full stops so far. Blush
