to be irritated by people being entitled (some would call it cheeky) when advertising for items wanted?

Just seen one today on a local Wanted board. Someone wants a fairly expensive item and has said "I'm a teacher so would be grateful if I could get this for a low price".

Wtf?

Wtf has being a teacher got to do with it, unless she genuinely believes teachers are somehow more deserving than other folk?

Its been bugging me ALL day it has Grin

OP posts:
KwickNC · 10/01/2016 20:01

Blue are you said teacher?

sellisx · 10/01/2016 20:16

I hate those posts "baby due in three weeks, need everything" surely by 37 weeks you'd already have everything! I turned to some free sites for extra clothes when I really needed them but always made sure to overly thank person and give choccies

DizzyDancer · 10/01/2016 20:52

So blue am I right in understanding you think she should get this holiday cheap because she's a teacher as she may be so poorly underpaid or using it for her school?

In that case I'm a stay at home mum. I've got no money and I need a free holiday in case I go mad and run naked through the streets with my bra attached to my head

Noodledoodledoo · 10/01/2016 21:05

I also have to resist the answer of 'Argos' when people ask if anyone is selling an item.

One this evening is for a £160 bouncy chair - I can't even see why its £160 to start with - apart from looking a bit funky!

If you can't afford your taste adjust it!

Hissy · 10/01/2016 21:08

Shall we... Just post a link to the Argos item? Just the once? Grin

Noodledoodledoo · 10/01/2016 21:10

Oh on mine they know the link - they use the Argos link to steal the pictures from!

DizzyDancer · 10/01/2016 21:12

Oh on mine they know the link - they use the Argos link to steal the pictures from

They do that on mine too. They want it lyke noo and exct sme as pic but free

GloGirl · 10/01/2016 21:15

Just remembered one I saw recently!

Wanted - puppy to rescue. Don't want to give my money to a back yard breeder, much better to save a puppy !

It must be between 8 - 10 weeks old AND must be a pedigree

Hmm
browneyedgirl1974 · 10/01/2016 21:17

I had one on freecycle
. Wanted flat screen tv. If you have one to give away please email me the model number so I can check it meets my requirements.

Vedamakesthebesttoast · 10/01/2016 21:58

Our local free cycle page is moderated really well and I don't see much of the wanted posts being arsey. It boggles me who would actually go, yeah you know what you can have my really expensive like new item, instead of just selling it themselves on gumtree and making some money back. You'd have to be pretty lazy, stupid not to know the value and thickskinned to not mind the blatant greediness and rudeness of these people. Do people REALLY get given these things?

Mandalorian · 10/01/2016 23:41

It's not just Freecycle etc, ever seen the comments on the giveaways from bigger companies in Facebook? They usually state 'comment yes please below' or something similar. The first few do just that then one will progress to "yes please, my disabled child would love this!"
Floodgates then open as they all try to out disable and out sympathy eachother.

Most amusing to watch actually.

Grapejuicerocks · 10/01/2016 23:42

But these cheeky feckers must often get their exact requirements or they'll all have petered out doing it by now.

What is it I want....
"Large 6 bed house wanted. Must be in a nice area and beautifully decorated."
Well it's worth a try. But even the most stupid people must work out that it's pointless eventually - unless it isn't pointless...

notquitehuman · 10/01/2016 23:52

Apparently you get a lot of that on the council house swap sites. "Damp studio flat available in 'vibrant' area. Want to exchange for Downton Abbey or better."

diaimchlo · 11/01/2016 00:45

IMHO OP YANBU at all

When I have received items from such sites I have always given a small gift out of gratitude and if I haven't been able to pick up I have arranged a man with a van.

It also irrityates me when I see wanted high end item with specific descriptions, must deliver and a sob story.

PiperChapstick · 11/01/2016 02:00

Can anyone tell me exactly why some people on my local Facebook selling page seem to have a business in flogging duvet covers? There's LOADS of them! And they're always some chavvy cover with phrases on like "where the action happens" surrounded by love hearts. Posts are usually "I have 1 ov these left. King size ownly. £20 needs gone PM me Thanx"

Same goes for unheard brands of washing powder, £20 and will do 4000 washes. Same people selling shit loads

Do people actually make money this way?

WANTED: Icandy Peach or Apple (location)
Sun Jan 10, 2016 6:06 pm (PST) . Posted by: "#######"

Trying to see if someone would be wiling to let me have a icandy apple or peach as in a tight budget. Many thanks

I googled iCandy - you're talking £500+ for a pushchair!

TamaraLamara · 11/01/2016 13:51

Someone on one of our local baby groups was asking for a particular item for her little boy. Someone pointed out that B&M had them in for £1.99. Response: 'If I wanted to pay for one I'd have gone there first, thank you!'

Shock
KwickNC · 11/01/2016 16:56

Fuck sake why don't some people adjust their taste to their budget

BreakingDad77 · 11/01/2016 17:14

YANBU - have seen it for buggies - surely something functional would be fine - not asking for silver cross classical style i/e the the ones that cost over £1000 new.

Also shopping lists of cutlery etc in certain colours and or style for 'their nan' etc.

Agree with the "can you deliver" ones too of worthless items, like WTAF.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/01/2016 18:19

Interesting to read blue14 claiming to be a teacher on this thread whilst apparently she's a pathologist on another thread

Blue14 · 11/01/2016 18:27

what exactly is your confusion hob? All teachers are something else first, except in the very few who do an education degree, instead of an academic degree, followed some time later by a PGCE. In any case, I have not claimed to be a teacher.

expatinscotland · 11/01/2016 18:32

I just saw one on Ebay. Selling dress shoes with a reserve of £35 with £10 postage. 'Used only once'. You can buy them brand new for £50 with free postage and they had wear in the heel. Needless to say, no takers.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/01/2016 18:57

Yesterday 16:31 Blue14

speaking as a London teacher, it is probably because the university is in an Asian area. Many London students stay at home to go to university, and in many areas white English students are a minority. My current school is 99% Asian, and my previous one over three quarters black.

Plus the fact that if the students have come from Asia, rather than London, the uni can charge them much higher fees.

Emmalouise2babies · 11/01/2016 19:01

I love the Facebook comments on the weekly Home Bargains give away. Especially the ones after the winner has been announced from sore losers claiming they cannot find the winner and it must be fake. Stalking people over a Facebook competition is just sad! Yet they like and share every week, don't win and accuse Home Bargains of running a scam! Grin

Pipbin · 11/01/2016 19:11

All teachers are something else first,

Sweeping statement there.
Thinking about the teachers at my school I can only think of about 3 that have had careers before teaching. That's out of 20 teachers.
That is primary school though. I guess university might well be different.
