to be irritated by people being entitled (some would call it cheeky) when advertising for items wanted?

Just seen one today on a local Wanted board. Someone wants a fairly expensive item and has said "I'm a teacher so would be grateful if I could get this for a low price".

Wtf?

Wtf has being a teacher got to do with it, unless she genuinely believes teachers are somehow more deserving than other folk?

Its been bugging me ALL day it has Grin

I see, the asking for a reduced rate due to being a teacher is very cheeky, especially as the owner of the holiday cottage is almost guaranteed to be able to let it over the half term.

OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 12:55

Quite right, Asskicker. But I am a tad confused if you, or anyone, think I was taking anything personally! I am just bemused that it is a problem for some. Maybe my posts got confused with A N Other!

Yes, M48. I do think YABU. YABU to let it bother you. As I said, people like the teach Pipbin quotes are just self identifying eejits. Easy to spot, easy to ignore. If they stopped trying to tug at your heart strings they wouldn't be so easy to avoid. Basically, who cares what they hoped to achieve, they ruined it for themselves by trying too hard.

M48294Y · 10/01/2016 13:02

Ok Blanche, whatever you say Smile

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2016 13:02

We have a "don't just bin it" and 95% if it is wants.
I really hate the begging that goes on. "my son / daughter has just moved out and needs everything" they get loads of replies too then want pictures of everything, and I'm having a baby in a few weeks and have nothing. Ffs you have had long enough. A woman local to me said I'm looking for a free tumble dryer as I have 3 children and mine just broke. One bloke was asking for all baby items including milk as he had been through a hard year what with paying for a wedding, and a new car!

OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 13:07

What?

My apologies. But I seem to be coming across as annoyed by this. I'm not, but now seem to be caught in that Catch 22, if I try to explain it just seems like I am proving the point Smile

I'll just potter off and leave you to it!

Pipbin · 10/01/2016 13:17

As I said, people like the teach Pipbin quotes are just self identifying eejits.

I haven't quoted anyone.

Asskicker · 10/01/2016 13:18

our it was this but that made me think you were one of the posters taking it personally.

Stop moaning about the cheeky feckers. They won't get your precious goods anyway!

Bellyrub1980 · 10/01/2016 13:19

I'm still angry about the 'Need Gone' posts. Saw one today.

Fuck off with your demanding 'need gone asap' posts and just take your crap to the tip like everyone else FFS

I'm unashamedly pissed off by these people!

"bag of 18-24 mo girls clothes for sale. Good quality, no stains. £10. Ran out of room and can no longer store so need gone ASAP. Collection only"

Why add the part about running out of room?! It's not MY fault!!!

OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 13:26

Sorry pipbin, as per the teacher you were discussing. Crikey!

Asskicker - Ah! I should have added a sarcasticon to that Smile

M48294Y · 10/01/2016 13:38

Blanche.

I quoted the teacher. The op was about a teacher. The op was not about freecycle.

Sometimes I do think it is better to read more, post less.

OP posts:
OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 13:41

Erm... OK! But the thread, as they tend to, did move on.

I shall button my lip and not post, digress, discuss...

StopLaughingDrRoss · 10/01/2016 13:48

I had to take myself off mine after all the people selling pets Sad I'd comment, get loads of abuse and then another would pop up.. the mods were shite so in the end, I just unfollowed.

The run up to Xmas was particularly bad - just coincidental you have a massive litter of 'pedigree' pups ready the week before Xmas - my fucking arse, it is!!! Angry

StopLaughingDrRoss · 10/01/2016 13:54

Oh wait - totally different issue.. ignore me Blush

knobblyknee · 10/01/2016 14:04

I just checked my local Freeloaderscycle and they are so fed up of that kind of post they banned them - Hurrah!
You can only post what you want, or what you want to get rid of, and thats it.
No traders, begging, pleading, special circumstances, demanding its new or demanding its delivered.

I'm going to start using it again.Smile

knobblyknee · 10/01/2016 14:05

HappenstanceMarmite · 10/01/2016 14:07

I love it when a poster who can't seem to grasp the point of the thread declares they are leaving the thread, never to darken the doorstep ever again...and then pop back "just to add one more thing then I really AM GOING this time!" Hahaha Grin

nextusername · 10/01/2016 14:24

YANBU. While I think teachers are often underpaid for what they do, a lot of people earn less than teachers so that message probably wouldn't go down well with them!

OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 14:34

Sadly, Happenstance, that is not what I did! I pottered off, pottered back, wondered why I had been misread and tried to discuss it. But I did grasp the point in the OP. I just hadn't realised it should have been read as a closely defined parameter for the rest of the thread.

What is is about Sunday posting?

People seem to be so much more ready to 'own' a thread. Weekday posting seems to be much more wide ranging and open to discussion.

knobblyknee I just did that too. They seem to have added more controls here too Smile

Bless me! There I go, digressing again!

M48294Y · 10/01/2016 15:07

Yes, nextusername. It's the implication that teachers are hard done by and therefore everyone else owes them a favour. Ruffled my feathers a wee bit, it did.

I sorely wanted to post a slightly sarcastic comment but Admin on the site is a demon and would have banned me within seconds!

Tiredmumno1 · 10/01/2016 15:30

On my local fab selling pages someone is selling a day bed for £70 only 4 weeks old. Funny thing is that it is from B and M for £69.99 brand new. Some people are so cheeky.

OurBlanche · 10/01/2016 15:58

I have just been turned away by a local Freegle site. Apparently they only cover Area A and Area B is much closer to me.

I have replied... Area B is 10 miles from me. Area A, your Area, is 11 miles from me. It is hard enough to find active Freeglers without being discounted for such an erroneous reason.

I.Am.Peeved Smile

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/01/2016 16:09

DH has banned me from looking on the wanted pages on pets4homes because of all the people that want Saints or Newfs for free or £100 or less claiming they don't have much money but a lot of love to offer. Then get one of those bloody plastic birds from toys r us ffs! Because you need to insure, feed & have, at least, an annual vet check with any animal.

Emmalouise2babies · 10/01/2016 16:36

How did this thread to turn into a debate Confused
Surely any normal person would consider making cheeky or specific demands for free stuff (unless the item only has say two variations which aren't the same) as taking the piss? If you want certain coloured furniture to match your shit wallpaper or want brand new baby stuff buy it your fucking self! Beggars can't be choosers as they say

notquitehuman · 10/01/2016 17:01

I agree BernardsarenotalwaysSaints. If you can't afford a few hundred quid to buy a dog now, then you're going to be fucked if it falls ill or breaks its leg and you've got a massive vet bill.

Someone on my Facebook is selling a 12 week old puppy because their work shifts have changed and they can no longer look after it. They can't have had it more than a month, and really should have thought of that possibility before they brought the thing! I have to stay off the pet pages. Angry

Vedamakesthebesttoast · 10/01/2016 17:26

I once posted a brand new wash basin on free cycle. We'd bough a bathroom set but the sink didn't sit well in the bathroom so we bought a different one and couldn't return the one from the set as it was sold as a set iyswim. A chap emailed me and we arranged a collection date and time that suited us both and he duly arrived on foot. I asked him where his car was so we could put it in and he just looked at me blankly then said, 'I don't drive, took the bus, but I don't live far from here so it won't take you too long to drop me off'
Shock I told him to trot on and if he wanted the sink he'd have to take it on the bus. Cheeky fecker.... He told the pedestal bit and said he'd be back the next day for the rest. Wish I'd told him to loss off properly and kept it for someone who might actually appreciate it because surprise surprise he didn't bother returning for the basin.
Urgh, fecker
