to be irritated by people being entitled (some would call it cheeky) when advertising for items wanted?

Just seen one today on a local Wanted board. Someone wants a fairly expensive item and has said "I'm a teacher so would be grateful if I could get this for a low price".

Wtf?

Wtf has being a teacher got to do with it, unless she genuinely believes teachers are somehow more deserving than other folk?

Its been bugging me ALL day it has Grin

I've got rid of, and received some great stuff through Freecycle. I've never encountered this sort of behaviour. Maybe I've just been lucky!

LazySusan11 · 10/01/2016 07:28

PalmerViolet wish you'd take my neighbours piano we might all get some peace! misses point of thread

Blue14 · 10/01/2016 07:33

You don't KNOW she needs it for home not school.

Stanky · 10/01/2016 07:52

It does annoy me, when I see the same names come up over and over on fb, asking for free stuff, and free services. People are cheeky, entitled and can't seem to get their shit together to sort their own lives, so expect everyone else to sort it.

I really don't mind helping people out, when they're not taking the piss though. My cousin wanted toys from a certain character for her baby ds, as he loved this character, and she was asking if anyone had seen any in the shops, as she was struggling to find them. I gave her everything we had to do with this character, as my dc had outgrown it. She offered me money, which I refused, and she was very grateful. She's been through tough times with dv, and is a single mum trying her best. I really didn't mind helping her, or anyone like her. It's all about the attitude.

Asskicker · 10/01/2016 07:54

My aunty added me to the local fb selling page. It's ridiculous.

No one is selling anything really loads of requests for stuff which is fine. But people always want it to a certain spec, free, delivered and in mint condition.

Including 'wanted -Windows 10 laptop, touch screen, in box (box must be in good condition), needs to be free and needs to be delivered'

I can't work out wether they are entitled or delusional. No compromise in what they want at all.

Soooosie · 10/01/2016 08:01

Recycling, giving things to charity, freecycle are all great environmentally/economically but yes there are occasionally annoying people.

KwickNC · 10/01/2016 08:07

I don't have FB but my sister does and I asked her to put on all the stuff I haven't used for my son lots of clothes with tags on an crib Moses basket monitor (I got two) etc he's only 4 months but so long he didn't get a chance to wear half his stuff Sad anyway she posted pics of the clothes and some girl put 'I'll have the Ralph Lauren and Burberry stuff but keep the rest' erm no you won't, you clearly don't need it that much if you're being fussy!
Also comments on the fact the Motorola monitor didn't have the camera on it, it's a brand new one with the temp etc! I'm going to just give them to the local women's charity they'd be much more appreciated

KwickNC · 10/01/2016 08:09

Blue I'm guessing the item she's asked for is something a school definitely wouldn't require

TimeToMuskUp · 10/01/2016 08:09

I recycle and give loads of the DCs stuff to charity. MIL buys them Boden, Polarn and John Lewis clothes (presumably to counter the cheap shite I buy for them) which people are always grateful for. I posted on our local Facebook site a few months ago with a free pile of gorgeous 3-4 years Boden stuff, enough to clothe an army of tiny, angry toddlers, and a lady responded from over 40 miles away saying she'd like it delivered that evening. I replied saying it was collection only, she went mad and said I was being anti-disabled people because she was wheel-chair-bound and couldn't get to me.

I then had a PM from a group Mod saying they'd had reports that she was selling on the stuff she got for free, and not to let her have it while they investigated what was going on. I just wanted to make a space in his wardrobe. It was utter madness.

I now give them to a lovely foster family who live not too far away. Facebook free pages make my bottom clench in sheer despair at humanity.

maybebabybee · 10/01/2016 08:17

What are these Facebook selling pages called? I've never seen one and now I'm very intrigued!!

maybebabybee · 10/01/2016 08:18

Sorry, free pages!

Alicewasinwonderland · 10/01/2016 08:20

I am amazed to see how generous people are, when faced with a request "I just moved in a new flat with my kids, I need everything", or "I have a baby, I need everything", and people offering so much. Why?!?

I am the first to try to help if a family is victim of a fire, of flooding, and I give to a woman shelter, but why would you help someone who is just after freebies, and might even start selling the donations on ebay or similar (true story).

Entitled people do annoy me too, so I don't give them anything!

Alicewasinwonderland · 10/01/2016 08:22

maybebabybee the facebook pages are usually local to your area

such as "free stuff South London", "Glasgow buy, sell or give away free" that sort of things

abbsismyhero · 10/01/2016 08:27

love the ones begging for clothing etc saying they can't afford it and at the end it states sent from my ipad/apple device etc

girl on our free page brags about her "hubby" buying her xyz with their lottery win and when brighthouse takes it back begs on free sites for everything for the kids and flat screen tvs (for the kiddies) with delivery etc

My favourite is "no timewasters plz" - usually I take this to mean they'll get angry if you turn up and the item is not as described so you don't buy it.

JeffVadersMum · 10/01/2016 08:43

What was the item???

I saw a "1920s ladies clothing for fancy dress party. Must be authentic and not copies"

and

"Oak furniture for my dining and front room, and a stand for my sons 40inch tv"

and

"Complete White Gloss Kitchen (location)
We have just brought our first house (really exciting!) and we are looking to put in a kitchen. Ideally we are after a white gloss kitchen or something quite modern looking. We have all the white goods, we are just after the units and possibly a worktop.
Many thanks, we look forward to hearing from anyone that is looking to update/remove their kitchen."

there is one guy on my local freecycle with the worst spelling, and constantly asking for just the most cheeky fucker stuff, with spellings that make my eyes itch - and he asks every weeks at least.....

I got banned from my local selling page when a friend posted some really expensive (large) things for free and requested collection that week. Someone asked if she could deliver.
I thought this was so cheeky, she was giving about £500 worth of good condition things for free. I commented 'deliver? They are free!' And got banned!!

whatsonyourplate · 10/01/2016 08:54

Some people are very cheeky. For the facebook selling pages, try looking at other groups in your area; I find some are better moderated and have a better 'tone' than others. For free sites, I've just discovered freelywheely which while quite quiet in my area at the moment seems very straight forward to use and not full of cheeky feckers just yet.

BalloonSlayer · 10/01/2016 09:07

My Facebook selling pages are really disappointing. Sad People offer good stuff for reasonable prices, sometimes free and are polite. No one asks for anything outlandish. Some people sell home-made crafts and they are lovely.

Someone did ask for a tablet on our Freecycle recently but that's the worst I've seen and TBH it was just after Christmas and someone who'd just upgraded to an IPad might well be not using their old tablet and wondering what to do with it. Our Freecycle guidelines say "if you want a specific item from Argos . . . go and buy it from Argos!" Grin

I think asking for a piano is fine BTW. They take up huge amounts of room and if you bought one 30 years ago for your kids who then stopped playing, and have now moved out you must wonder what you are ever going to do with it and be delighted to be able to pass it on.

Just checked my local fb selling page. Some bloke has flooded it with loads of ugg boots for £10, ugg slippers for £10 and a load of Laura Mercier makeup for £1 per item.

I suspect they aren't all 'genuin' as he states.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2016 09:12

This doesn't bother me. If you don't ask you don't get and, let's face it, no one is forcing you to give stuff to people if you don't want to.

Hissy · 10/01/2016 09:13

I saw an add for unwanted pandora charms wanted...

I had to sit on my hands not to post a link to a high street jeweller.

I may need to create a fake FB account... :)
