AIBU?

If you were intending to give someone a bottle of wine ......

...... would you turn up on their doorstep with a case of it?

DDs friends mum did this on xmas eve, as a thank you for giving her girl lifts to the sport they do. I'd had a little drink Grin, and sort of took the box from her, saying how very generous, what a lovely thing to do! really no need etc etc.

DH has been winding me up ever since saying she only intended to open it and give me a bottle, and prob had five more mates to visit Blush.
I keep thinking about it and going hot and cold!! How embarrassing, but who would do that? You'd come to the door with one brittle surely?

This has really made me laugh. Get on the phone and get them round for a drink. All the best friendships start off like this. Nowt better than a good cringe Grin

You just took it out her hands? That's a bit presumptuous isn't it?

I really hope she starts a thread here - "AIBU to ask for my 5 bottles of wine back?"

I'm not sure any of it was for you, she was holding something and you took it off her.
Still what's done is done Grin

I really don't see why you can't text asking if she meant to only give you one as in the cold light of day you suddenly realise you might have misunderstood. If you word it well she could admit it surely? I'd rather that than have her think I was a bit greedy.

But if none of the wine was for OP, why would she go to the trouble of carrying it into the house..?

She didn't let go straightaway as you wrestled it off her.

Dh is now teasing you.

I'd invite them over for a meal though as others suggested SmileWineWineWineWineWineWine

Similar thing happened to me earlier. I stayed with a family for 4 hrs today, when the baby went down for a nap, i helped with the cleaning. There were over 150 shot glasses to be emptied, plus about 50 to be washed.... However at the end they guys gave me a tip, and demanded that i must take 4-5 bottles of wine....

She drove to your house. There is no way she would have carried a 6-bottle box to your door if she hadn't intended that you should have all six. Those boxes are heavy!

I bet there was a Christmas card on top of the box you were supposed to have had and she was on her way to a party with the wine. Haha.

That's one way of getting through the washing up.

Of course the case was for you. DH is jokingly winding you up Grin
Lots of people give cases of wine as gifts.

I'd look taken aback too if someone lunged at me and grabbed before we'd even said hello, as if they were afraid I was going to take their Christmas present away again!

Grin I think your DH is a comedy genius, my DH thinks so too and I'm a tad worried that you've given him ideas!

She didn't let go straightaway so there was a very slight tussle. GrinGrinGrin

Lordy Sandy you've given me a laugh!

6 bottles of prosecco is a very generous gift in return for giving someone a lift.

Haha this has really made me giggle, not only is your DH teasing you but now DD has piped up with the woman probably only wanted scissors! Brilliant.

I haven't drunk for 4 years and even when I did never wine but I would assume she meant you to have the case, it would be odd of her to carry the whole case into your house otherwise.

I really want you to text her to confirm though

DancingDinosaur · 01/01/2016 21:11

Thats bloody hilarious. And I have no idea. I'd text her and say you're sorry but you think you may have been a little greedy? And that all those bottles couldn't possibly be all for you Wink. And see what she says Grin
