...... would you turn up on their doorstep with a case of it?

DDs friends mum did this on xmas eve, as a thank you for giving her girl lifts to the sport they do. I'd had a little drink Grin, and sort of took the box from her, saying how very generous, what a lovely thing to do! really no need etc etc.

DH has been winding me up ever since saying she only intended to open it and give me a bottle, and prob had five more mates to visit Blush.
I keep thinking about it and going hot and cold!! How embarrassing, but who would do that? You'd come to the door with one brittle surely?

I sent my friend/neighbour a big hamper from John Lewis for Christmas. She is always picking up my DD....Had she been a drinker, a crate of 6 wines would have been perfect. I think they were all for you OP

For my 21st I had a movie themed fancy dress party... Someone came dressed as forest gump and I took the chocolates and said thank you. He took them back and said it was his costume... Still horrified many years later Shock

I think they were all for you. A year's worth of lifts is a lot, as presumably without you, her DD wouldn't get to go to the sport they do!
Text to put your mind at rest, explain you were a bit pissed -unless you drove her DD straight after Grin invite them over to get the rest back, and she'll laugh and say no

OP this is hilarious. "A very slight tussle" as you drunkenly wrestled her Christmas wine supplies out of her hands before she had a chance to speak, at which point she looked "slightly taken aback".

I'm crying here.

Of course they were for you. Your DH is winding you up. Great thread though Grin.

Reminds me of a job I had. Person came in with a bottle of wine. We all screamed greedy screams and drank the lot. They came back and said they gave us the wrong bottle and could they swap it for the cheapo one they were holding.

Another lady brought in a bottle of sherry and asked if we had any glasses. Poured us a smal glass each and then left.

This was the evening of Christmas Eve?

Imagine the sad affair their Christmas lunch was... with glasses of orange squash because someone had pinched all their Prosecco GrinWinkGrin

If she'd brought in a mixed case it might be that she intended you to choose a bottle from it that you liked. But as they were all the same they were all meant for you.

This has made me laugh
If she was already talking to your DH had she not already mentioned to him it was a gift?
Surely he is just enjoying winding you up Smile
Had a look at the link but says £66 not £48 have I missed a reduced price

I think we need more information on the 'slight tussle' Grin. I presume no prosecco got spilt anyway.
Maybe she brought them in to ask your opinion on whether or not it was good enough wine to give as gift(s)... Wink

I don't know what is funnier - the OP gleefully grabbing the crate or the woman walking back to her car empty handed and bewildered! Grin

Hahaha - got linked here by the (presumably) fake thread purporting to be from the wine-giver - in all honesty, if any of it is real, it serves her right to lose the whole box.

If I had a box of wine in the car with me, and I was only intending to give the first person one bottle, I'd leave the sodding box in the car and take one bottle in with me, not wrestle the entire (quite heavy!) box to the door and then consider removing one!

Maybe she was taken aback at the alacrity with which you grabbed the wine off her, rather than the fact you took the whole box - she may have had a speech prepared, and you rather jumped the gun! Grin

But I wouldn't worry about it now. Wine

I think she was taken aback by the fact she was left to stand in the hallway by your husband holding very heavy 6 bottle of booze and he didn't offer to take them off her! Who lets a guest stand there with a heavy item in her hands chatting!? Now husband feels the guilt and is trying to deflect Grin

I'm almost certain the whole case was meant for you, but to make yourself feel better why don't you text her with this -

"Dear TussledOne, I'm so sorry I wrestled you to the ground and robbed the Prosecco from you. I had no idea it was meant to be for the local homeless shelter's Christmas lunch. Hope you have recovered from the whiplash and black eye. I've got a Bayliss & Harding bath set if you want it?? Love, SandyBalls xxx"

OP are you sure that you were sober when you answered the door? A little bird has been insinuating otherwise.

It's been a bit shit around here lately and then this gem! Grin

You're singlehandedly saving MN!

Perhaps lay off on robbing people in your hallway though.
