In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

Anyone got a good steamed chocolate pudding or upside down pudding recipe for the IP?

roseshippy · 11/01/2017 19:23

"I've found the sauté setting perfectly fine - if anything I have to be careful things don't burn! Certainly no issues to the extent I would think about dirtying a pan just sauté. "

Things burn because it's stainless steel. If you try browning mince or something it's completely hopeless - it releases more water than the 1 kW can cope with. I tried once and it's bad - you end up with boiled mince.

It saves time, but if you want best results it's something like this:

  • fry onions/carrots/celery in Instant Pot (around 10 minutes), add tomatoes, red wine, high pressure for 45 minutes (but allow an hour for it to get up to pressure), then release pressure
  • brown meatballs in Le Creuset , then add sauce from Instant pot to Le Creuset. Poach for around 30 minutes
  • boil pasta till barely al dente, then add to sauce/meatball mixture from step 1 and cook till tender.

If you mix everything in 1 pot, it's not going to be good. But I am VERY fussy. It does save cooking the tomato sauce for six hours in a 110C oven, but it's still quite time-consuming.

"To be honest there's not been much where I have found the instant Pot results better than the alternative cooking method (I did pressure cook some carrots which were divine!) but the ease and speed massively outweigh that. I'd never get my Le Cruset out to cook a stew midweek as I simply don't have time but it couldn't be easier with the IP.
"

Just did one now, Guinea Fowl tagine in the Le Creuset about 60 minutes start to finish. You can't really get browned flavours with the pressure cooker alone.

There are some nice recipes here. maomaomom.com/instantpot-electric-pressure-cooker-recipes/

I know what you mean about mince boiling rather than browning but I've not had that problem with the IP sauté.

I did the easy IP version of meatball pasta last night - 20 mins total, of which 15 mins were completely hands-off. Id rather eat your version Rose but when I'm starting dinner prep at 9:30 I know what I'd rather cook!

I have ben dithering over buying one of these since this thread started, but I think I'm going to go for it - my Costco leaflet has arrived and the Duo is £71.98 inc VAT from Jan 30th.

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 13:04

I also noticed it in the Costco brochure yesterday and have been reading this thread! I loved my old pressure cooker (stove-top with fearsome steam) and I'm interested in this.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 27/01/2017 13:51

the Duo6l six in one is on offer in the olive magazine £79 if any one wants one and has no costco nearby

so no yogurt making facility, but this model has two new settings for CAKE and EGGS.
on the front it has
SOUP/BROTH
MEAT/STEW
CAKE
EGG
SAUTE
RICE
MULTIGRAIN
PORRIDGE
STEAM
SLOWCOOK

so ten pre programmes!!

I am off to the web site to investigate this cake option and see what they have to say about that!

To order go visit instant pot.co.uk and use offer code olive171

I think the main benefit is that you can chuck stuff in, put on the lid, set timer then walk away completely. Risotto is very good in it, and no stirring needed. I've made some good stews & curries, pulled pork and brisket. It's good for soups - although strangely I don't like it for a chunky chicken & veg soup I make as the flavours of the veg merge together too much. It's good for soups you will blend though. Yes I can make some things in the same time on the hob - sweet & sour chicken for instance. But you need to keep an eye on it whereas with the pot I can walk away and help dd with her homework or something.

PawneeParksDept · 28/08/2018 22:54

I just wanted to generally placemark here from the other thread to quickly find the recipes, thanks @lougle

Bordercollies · 04/09/2018 22:02

I have bought one of these on the strength of these threads :-). Ive been checking out recipes but despite searching for ages i cant find a corned beef hash recipe. Has anyone attempted this or someone more experienced have any idea how i would go about it Grin

PawneeParksDept · 04/09/2018 22:58

I'm not sure, but at a guess I'd say lob it all in and do the same setting as mash?

Stopitjuststopit2018 · 04/09/2018 23:44

@bordercollies- are you on Facebook? If so join a group called Sammie’s Pressure King pro group, there are lots of recipes on there including corned beef hash

Bordercollies · 05/09/2018 09:50
