In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

Ah good luck! There are loads of recipes on line to help you get a feel for how it works. It is quite big as cooking pots go. But no bigger than a good sized slow cooker. I did clear a space for mine in a cupboard but haven't bothered putting it away - I use it so often.

I bought one on Friday it arrived today, so excited, i had a pressure cooker (normal) which was used all the time until it finally gave up about a month ago. Already used it today for pulled pork, perfect and done in an hour!

I bought one and used today for the first time to make soup but it has come out very runny and flavourless. I think I'll freeze it and use to add a bit of veg to sauces when cooking casseroles or something as I don't think it will be worth eating on its own.
Might try a casserole tomorrow

Yourface - I used the Bolognese recipe from the Pressure King Pro (similar to the IP but had a non stick liner so I stuck with the Ip), halved it and tweaked it a bit.

As soon as the sauce ingredients were in, I dumped my pasta on the top then just covered it with water. I set mine on Meat for 12 mins.

It's a new way of cooking for me so I've made some mistakes, but I've also made some of my best meals. Just keep tweaking!

I'd love a good book, too. Recs please!

Hi guys, have bought one!! Never has a gadget filled me with such fear 😀😀 i have soup on, beef broth, steam escaping throughout cooking is this normal?? How do you know when to quick release or not Xmas Confused

I bought one last week in the Black Friday sales too. So far done beef stew with veg and pumpkin soup in it, both successful.

I've made brisket (best I've ever had), pork chops (I always over cook them but in the instant pot they were perfect!) and Bombay potatoes (came out perfect).

I haven't used any actual pressure cooker recipes - just my normal recipes but I google the dish to find out timings from similar recipes. Has worked out great doing it that way.

I bought mine on Cyber Monday, and it came Thursday. I took it out of the box, and sat it on the counter. I've been too intimidate to use it yet. But I'm excited. I have a pork loin in the fridge I might use it tomorrow.

I was going to buy myself a slow cooker because I eat a lot of currys/soups/chillis etc and I don't really have much time to cook.

I'm tempted to get this instead because of all the great reviews, but is it worth it for someone like me? The main attraction for me of slow cookers/pressure cookers is to hopefully reduce faff- I'd like it to essentially cook itself while I'm in either at work, or in the house but doing other things. I don't want to be in the kitchen stirring things/ checking it/releasing pressure.

Any opinions?

Can anyone tell me whether you have to faff around stirring and and releasing pressure etc or if stews and currys will cook by themselves with minimal input from me?

Artemis they will cook themselves. Top tip is to put anything like onion on the bottom as a base to keep anything with high sugar content (such as tomatoes) away from the heating element. Tomatoes tend to stick and burn if they're put straight in the pot. But they're fine if they are put on top of something else.

I have had mine for pretty much exactly a year now, inspired by this thread. I use it every time I cook, in one way or another. Sometimes I'll just prepare a component in it (beans, potatoes, rice - it makes the best rice!), and sometimes I make a full meal. I can't express my love for it in words. It's the best purchase I've ever made. Thanks, OP!

It really is worth its weight in gold. I made coconut rice in mine the other day. Just so easy. 4 Instant Pot cups of rice, rinsed. 1 tsp salt. 1 can of coconut milk (equivalent to 2 IP cups), 1 can of water (equivalent to 2 IP cups). Press the rice button. It automatically set itself for 12 minutes on low pressure. Result: Beautifully cooked coconut rice.

How does it compare at slow cooking compared to a "normal" slow cooker?

I can answer that for you as I used mine, plus the slow cooker to cook for a crowd ahead of New Year's Day. No difference. I browned the brisket for both in the IP and put the same veg, stock, herbs, etc in both. Used slow cooker setting on IP.

I have a glass lid for my IP and, as it has a vent in it and a slow cooker works by creating a vacuum, I put a piece of gaffer tape over the vent.

I put all the cooking liquid and veg from both in the IP afterwards on the sauté setting, reduced it a bit then blended with a stick blender to make the gravy.

I love my IP - on Friday night I can whack something on, using one pot for each stage and do other things GS while it's coming to pressure and cooking.

Right does anyone know why my Instant pot sometimes doesn't come to pressure and continues to vent steam while the counter counts down?
Wondering if my rubber ring on lid is slipping out of place when I put the lid on and won't form a seal? No idea how to prevent this but it drives me crazy as I then cannot get the lid back on at all due to steam and have to abandon the dish or just cook on sauté
Please help IP experts!

Changerazelea that is definitely going to be an issue with your seal. Try pulling it off completely then putting it back in. Do a water test again.

i tend to mill about the kitchen until mine is "up to pressure" but if I am in a hurry to get out and it's steaming away and I can see the wee steaming button is not up then a quick press down on the lid handles seems to work

I wonder if there is not too much water/pot not too full then the steam is not quite fast enough to raise the steam button??

I still love mine!! ...we;ll be having pulled pork today so Ill shove it in there for a start and then let it slow cook until later.
