In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

i made fabulous yoghurt yesterday night....i got some gold top milk and a small pot of full fat natural cos I stupidly ate the last of my last lot and did not save any as a starter

it's so so thick, no need to strain it, and extra creamy and smooth.I did it in two douwe egbert coffee jars!

Cheesecakes are amazing me still! ...made a peanut butte and caramel one with a PB Oreo base.

And i am still impressed with the best mash ever!

Ohh and a fab bolognese for lasagne...dd said she was popping home and would stay for supper, requested lasagne, I have no bolognese, and it's 2pm

...Instant pot to the rescue!

I am so pleased with it still! ...it's only been put away once!

lougle · 22/02/2016 21:36

Fab!

I have 6 pints of yoghurt sat in my fridge. So easy.

Me too and I hope it arrives soon!

I've been lurking forever; IP was a Christmas present & it has sat in a cupboard since, giving me shitty baleful glances every time I opened the door.
So, popped my cherry 2 days ago. 'Roasted' a chicken then made stock. So far so good.
Then decided to flex my bingo wings & made this, attached, sourced from the IP Facebook page.
Delicious. Can't fault the flavour, but Jesus H the rice was like mush. It's firmed up a squeak overnight, but is it me fucking it up or is the recipe a bit 😕?

I wouldn't give rice 18 minutes! 6 or 7 is ample.
I used the Hip Pressure Cooking 7 minute risotto recipe today, with my left over lamb shoulder and stock that I'd made from the bones (4 hours on manual - makes a lovely rich stock). I followed the instruction to reduce the cook time to 6 minutes for the IP. It was just right - a little wet when I opened the lid, but a minute on sauté got rid of the excess.

Thanks for feedback. And your pic looks delicious.
My Mum, who is a Thermomix & IP whizz has actually gone out and bought the ingredients to recreate the recipe. And she said what you did - too long for cooking rice

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 02/03/2016 18:25

i am winging a Biryani.... (ish)

chicken, spices, yoghurt marinading
onions and spices fried,
rice soaking
came in for a sit down and to watch pointless
pan back onto saute, chicken in
deglazed with a splash of water
hurled in a can of coconut milk and a can of water
added rice
and set it to go on the rice setting

i shall report back

MrsPurchase · 02/03/2016 19:07

Please do 👍

mistydaytoday · 02/03/2016 19:37

I haven't read all the messages (only 200 or so) so this may have been asked ... Is it any use to vegetarians?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 02/03/2016 20:21

i'd say so, misty....best mash ever, and I did beans right from the packet, no soaking, i haven't tried risotto yet, but that's supposed to be lovely

The biryani was very tasty, rice was a little over done....I left it to NPR for 15 minutes, so if i did it again, I'd QPR. Chicken was delish, not at all over done.

MrsPurchase · 02/03/2016 21:04

Tondelaya can you post your recipe for biriyani? I did a version, it tasted grand but was more like porridge

SteamyMcDreamy · 02/03/2016 21:40

I'm really sorry if this has been answered already but how do you make mash with the IP?

lougle · 02/03/2016 21:42

Don't be sorry! If you quarter potatoes, then give 7 minutes on manual with quick pressure release, they'll mash beautifully with just a knob of butter.

SteamyMcDreamy · 04/03/2016 00:07

Thank you. How much water would you put in? Do you put the potatoes on the trivet?

lougle · 04/03/2016 06:43

I'd put in 1.5 of the little cup that came with the IP. I put the potatoes in a steamer basket, but on the trivet would be fine. I salt the water.

MrsP I'm not a recipe kind of gal ...I looked at lots online to get the gist

so as i put above, and some more details

chicken...about 400g
two largeish onions/some garlic/celery stalk
spices, were all the indiany thing in the spice basket toasted and crushed, plus turmeric and the last of some tesco curry powder
a great bit dod of lemongrass and ginger, lidls have them in jars on offer this week
it was a normal can of coconut milk
two cups of basmati that had been soaking for about an hour i suppose.

method as above, you do not have to watch Pointless. And I didn't stir the rice in as i worried it might gloop at the bottom, and cooked it on the rice setting. AND i brought it all back up to hottish on saute before the rice went in

and I would QPR next time, I think for sure,

that also made loads...3 big portions and leftovers for the freezer.

MrsPurchase · 04/03/2016 14:05

Sounds great. You remind me a bit of DH. He's not a recipe kind of gal either 😉

MadauntofA · 04/04/2016 19:47

Bumping just so I can read later as I have just ordered a one Pot!!! Still a code for £25 off on the one pot website

MadauntofA · 04/04/2016 19:49

Ft20151 if anyone interested - used for a 7 in 1, not sure if it works for the other model

MadauntofA · 05/04/2016 08:52

Can't wait to get going, so looking at all the tips/ recipes on here! For those who have made yoghurt, has anyone tried goats milk with goats milk yoghurt as a starter?

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 05/04/2016 11:51

Hello.
I've been sent here after starting a slow cooker thread, why shall I buy one?
I want to cook a chicken as I'm out a long time for work!
Don't like traditional stews and things but love homemade beans with sausages in and strong Mexican flavours.
I have a kenwood chef titanium and I like cooking!
Is this for me?
Thaaaanks!

OrangeSunset · 06/05/2016 09:31

My new IP is at the Post Office, going to collect it today.

We've got friends here this weekend so it's the perfect opportunity to put it through it's paces.

What's your best recipe for feeding 3 adults and 4 kids - veggie or meat - and easy for an IP novice?!

frenchcountrygirl · 17/05/2016 21:53

Another one here who bought an Instantpot purely on the basis of this thread (Hadn't even heard of them before then!) and I love it!
Re yogurt. The first time I made it in the Instantpot, I did all the faffing around scalding milk, taking its temperature etc. Took ages. Now I do it the easy way and the results are fab.

1 pint UHT (already heat treated) milk in a pyrex bowl. Add 3 tablespoons dried mik powder for thickening. Stir in yogurt starter. Cling film over top. Place on trivet in pot. Add cup of water. Lid on. Vent in any position. Press 'yogurt'. It takes 8 hours, but continues to keep warm / thicken until you remove it. I usually leave it overnight.

MrsJorahMormont · 13/06/2016 17:54

Just back to say I still love my IP and have convinced a few people to buy one Smile Unlike other kitchen 'gadgets' I use this so often it lives on the counter permanently. It's great for soup and rice, as well as stews, curries, pulled pork / beef and cheesecakes. I haven't been very adventurous so am going to try and branch out a bit. Definitely getting my money's worth out of it!
