In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

It's St Valentine's Day so most of you are probably in in bed with cups of tea being brought to you by loved ones or even some thing more exciting happening .... !

dustwhatdust · 14/02/2016 08:24

I know earl grey that's why I'm wanting one !

claig · 14/02/2016 08:43

'Can anyone tell what I get exactly in the extras with the code . '

With the code, you get free delivery, a spare seal (which is worth £15) and a free pair of mitts (small plastic type gloves for handling the hot pot).

You don't really need the mitts as you can use your oven gloves. You can always buy the spare seal another time if you need it.

So for £89, if it is the 7-in-1 and if you can leave the shop with it, then I would probably buy it in the shop.

lougle · 14/02/2016 08:46

The sealing ring is £8 on Amazon at the moment. I agree about the mitts-they're not essential at all. Buy it at Costco. You'll love it!

'I've just counted and 40 people have bought an Instant Pot on this thread!!'

It's brilliant. No one will regret getting one.

lougle, my Silit steam basket never came. You have both the Silit and the Kuhn one. The Silit one has little legs on the bottom of it and it looks like the Kuhn doesn't. Does that mean that the Kuhn has to rest on the trivet and the Silit doesn't need the trivet. Is that an advantage for the Silit or are the legs too short anyway? Also is the Silit deeper than the Kuhn or is there not much in it?

dustwhatdust · 14/02/2016 12:08

Back from my Sunday morning walk.
Thank you I thought it was an extra inner pan as well so I got it wrong, so I will definitely buy it this afternoon at Costco, can't wait !

lougle · 14/02/2016 15:27

Sorry to hear that, Claig. The kuhn does have little raised domes on the bottom, so you can use either directly on the bottom of the pot, but the Silit does have bigger legs. I wouldn't use either on their own because if you do they then sit in the liquid. I prefer to put them on the trivet.

I also have one of these folding steamer baskets.

They're really useful. You can get 2 tier ones.

I'm a lurker but I bought an IP too. Just used it for the first time this weekend, made the most amazing beef casserole, the meat is melt in the mouth tender and the flavours are wonderful!!

Yesterday I used the slow cooker option to make a bolognese which was equally as delicious.

I can't believe the difference in the IP way of cooking against traditional slow cooker/casserole. It's fantastic.

I'm making yoghurt tonight.

lougle · 14/02/2016 18:10

I'm glad it's doing well for you, Time

Thanks, lougle

BrassicaBabe · 16/02/2016 21:13

Well, I've just read 25 pages! I want one! Convincing myself that it's okay as the dial on my slow cooker is broken.

Thank heavens I found 25 pages written about the IP and not the £800 Thermomix! Shock

lougle · 16/02/2016 21:59

If the dial is broken, what can you do? Grin

BrassicaBabe · 17/02/2016 07:28

I can use a pair of pliers.... Don't tell DH Grin

Twinklestein · 17/02/2016 13:17

Can anyone tell me how long black rice and red rice take to cook?

The instant pot site says 70 mins including 30 mins soak time.

But it only takes 40 mins in a regular saucepan, so I'm not sure why so long?

Naicecuppatea · 17/02/2016 13:23

Would it be around the same as brown rice? I've not tried black or red rice. For brown rice I use 2 cups brown rice and 2 1/2 cups water, and cook on High pressure for 22 mins, then leave for 10 mins to vent pressure (natural release). Let us know how it turns out.

Naicecuppatea · 17/02/2016 13:25

Yes, it seems to be the same time as brown rice from this website recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/forbidden-black-rice/

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 17/02/2016 13:29

I think the rice cooker part would be slower as it's low pressure...I have done rice in it a few time, and much prefer to use the manual setting

Chippednailvarnish · 17/02/2016 13:39

I do basmati 1 cup to 1.25 of water for four minutes on manual, then quick release. I soak for 15 mins.

The instructions say to do 1:1.5 and slow release, but the rice was soggy.

Twinklestein · 17/02/2016 13:47

Brilliant! Thanks enormously.

Naicecuppatea · 17/02/2016 13:56

I never use the rice setting. I always cook on manual high pressure.

Ruhrpott · 17/02/2016 23:50

BrassicaBabe I have a thermomix and the ip Blush but I cook more in the ip than the thermomix. Thermomix is great for making jam though.

mendandmakedo · 22/02/2016 21:17

I have just invested in one of these. They are 89 pounds in Costco Manchester plus vat bringing it to 108 pounds. So I ordered with the discount code for the extras! I hope I can make some nice good in it and it isn't a disaster!

mendandmakedo · 22/02/2016 21:19

Nice food

lougle · 22/02/2016 21:22

I hope you love it, mendandmake do.
