Hello all- I'm pretty sure I am BU to ask but I was wondering- have you ever known someone on MN was talking about you? Or have you been caught out on here referring to Someone who knows you in RL? I'm a nosy begger I know but some of the stuff on here I think (surely) someone would know? Ps new here and loving it - apologies in advance if this isn't appropriate chat :)

Not yet, but it wouldn't surprise me, BathshebaDarkstone has been around for years, I don't hide that it's me.

JOEYDOESNTSHAREFOOD · 29/12/2015 19:12

I've recognised somebody once, only as she had the same, very unique, story as her Facebook status as the opening post of a thread.

I made an effort just to 'forget' her, but I think she outted herself to a few that night and name changed, not that it was in anyway scandalous. Grin

Merguez · 29/12/2015 19:12

I have recognised friends of mine in a post which mentioned them. Don't think they are mnetters themselves.

EssentialHummus · 29/12/2015 19:13

There's a poster on here whose posting style is so distinctive (to me, anyway) that I recognised her from a completely unrelated forum - and thanks to that forum I know who she is IRL and the ins and outs of her work, DCs work/school etc. I feel a bit Confused at how much I know about her but I'm not being stalker-ish, I think - it's just that she puts tonnes of info out there.

Aramynta · 29/12/2015 19:13

In the past I have had a feeling about one poster, but never really bothered about it too much.

Not sure if I have been recognised or not... if they have then they have kept it quiet Wink

dandelionhouse · 29/12/2015 19:14

I've been recognised but I didn't mind as I'd namechanged because I knew that post would out me, but I did need the advice.

The lady who recognised me is lovely anyway :)

EdYouKateShaun · 29/12/2015 19:15

I recognised someone on here bitching about me in a tough time in my life. She was pretty much told by 90% of the people that she was BU. She has flat out denied it was her though despite really, really identifying details. Ah well....

HardleyWorthit · 29/12/2015 19:16

I've recognised one of my brothers friends on here after they described his wedding exactly (all very complimentary thank god).

They have a very distinctive posting style so after seeing them crop up on various threads I realised over time who they might be. I'm certain tho that the poster wouldn't give a flying fuck that I knew who they were but I haven't mentioned it to my bro.

I try and stick to Sparklings rule of not posting anything that I wouldn't want anyone in RL to see.

I did see a blogger pop up on a thread once that was having a bit of a bitch about her!

IMustNotForgetMyPasswordAgain · 29/12/2015 19:17

I am an unreasonable SIL, except that even with the wild exaggeration and lies version of events, I still had a few people saying I wasn't that unreasonable. I'm even more reasonable IRL. Smile

BrendaandEddie · 29/12/2015 19:20

oh god masses
I once did a piss take thread about pretending i knew my H was having an affair as the tesco clubcard showed condoms or something. This was years ago when people could have a laugh and not be called something like a ' goady fucker' ( christ how i LOATHE that term)

Anyway, about a few months later the Daily mail did a real life one ( allegedly) the details were all the same

i was in the times Caitlin Moran article too

BrendaandEddie · 29/12/2015 19:21

oh i followed the trials of someone at a local school, of which I was a governor, moaning about their Sn provision.

I can tell you her take on it was quite... er 'imaginative'. Convinced of all sorts of conspiracies against her.... Hmm

i never let on, but i did laugh

SilverMachine · 29/12/2015 19:22

I often draft posts then delete them through fear of being outed. It would be so cathartic to have a good old bitch on MN sometimes but I do think you have to consider the consequences of someone recognising you!

I also open posts to check if they are about me!

BrienneofQarth · 29/12/2015 19:23

I have spotted someone I know on here. It wasn't pleasant, I was mentioned, as were other family members. Broke my heart a little bit to read it all & have never mentioned it to the person in charge. I imagine the fall out would be pretty spectacular.

BrendaandEddie · 29/12/2015 19:24

i think the etiquette is either SAY discretely to the person concerned or STFU.

BrienneofQarth · 29/12/2015 19:24

Person in charge?? The poster, I meant. Sorry, I'm getting stupider.

MrsJayy · 29/12/2015 19:25

A friend liked a comment of the fb page i was trying to see if I could spot them on here

MrsJayy · 29/12/2015 19:26

I have a few mumsnetters on facebook so they know who i am

Freeriver · 29/12/2015 19:27

Brenda so am I to understand that the link doesn't show you and your OH ???

You mean that what I read in the DM may be made up !!!!

99percentchocolate · 29/12/2015 19:29

I've been recognised under a different username. Had to name change. Luckily nothing bad on there.

Never recognised anybody, though I did read a post and think "that sounds like X Mumsnetter...", checked the op and it was. I think that means I need to get a life.

BrendaandEddie · 29/12/2015 19:29

christ yes, i dont want to look like her

RattieOfCatan · 29/12/2015 19:36

I have recognised somebody and also been spoken about on here. It was amusing to see my sister bitching about our other sister though! Grin

RainbowDashed · 29/12/2015 19:37

I have MNers on FB, have had for years, but I have no idea who they are on here or even if they're still here at all. I've name changed that many times I doubt anyone would recognise me unless they knew me well in rl.

HardleyWorthit · 29/12/2015 19:39

Ah shame Brenda, was about to say your oh looks like a total hottie.
