To turn up at hospital with toothache? I can't cope with the pain anymore

I am booked in for an operation to remove 2 back teeth, which has to be done under GA because they need to cut into my gum and remove in pieces because they cracked while eating a while ago.
But the operation date is not til February and i can't cope with the pain anymore, physically and mentally losing my mind with it- I'm taking Tramadol, 30/500 Co-codamol, Ibuprofen, Aspirin and Naproxen and still having stabbing pains in my face, jaw and ear, throbbing in my gum, and blinding pain.
I haven't eaten in 5 days because I can't put any pressure in my mouth at all, so just having warm cup-a-soup, and warm water.

Taken a full course of antibiotics, but still in fucking agony and feel totally useless and depressed, I'm going to ruin my kids Xmas because I can't do anything but cry with pain. The thought I l'll have to stay like this for 2 months makes me want to die, I've never known pain like it. Total blinding pain that leaves me screaming and cold sweat down my back, my 3 births were nothing compared to it.
Do hospitals have dentists on call that can put you under and operate? Please help if you can, I feel like I'm cracking up with pain

Genuinely thrilled for you Vatican Flowers

When my two came out I slept for hours then ate a whopper, the first proper food I'd eaten in a week.
Have a great Christmas!

Wahoo!

DinoSnores · 23/12/2015 15:35

"hardly anyone in the medical profession as far as A&E goes knows that much about it?.

If there are any dental pro's on the board do they teach you about this sort of thing at med school at all?."

Justaboy, doctors go to med school. Dentists go to dentistry school.

Doctors are not allowed to practise dentistry. It is against the law.

We get about an hour's lecture on dentistry, because all we are legally allowed to do is provide pain relief (which a dentist can also prescribe, along with antibiotics, sedatives etc) pending someone seeing a dentist. Dentists do five years on just that!

Doctors who work in maxillo-facial surgery have both medical degrees and dental degrees and only because of that are they allowed to do dentistry.

VaticanAssassin, very glad you are feeling much better! Sounds awful. Hope things heal up enough for you to enjoy a decent Christmas dinner!

Pengweng · 23/12/2015 15:35

I'm so glad they sorted it out!!! Enjoy Christmas. x

VaticanAssassin · 23/12/2015 15:54

Happy Christmas to you all Xmas Grin Wine
I'm absolutely over the moon to feel human again and not howling demented tears into DH's tshirt!
It was surprisingly quick and pain free, it only took him 8 minutes to extract two back teeth fully. 8 minutes! He is now my hero
I was originally booked in for a GA extraction because one tooth had worn down at the back- my regular dentist said it would be hard to grip and therefore likely to snap with pressure, which would be 'time consuming and quite nasty to remove'. Thanks to the emergency dentist, it took 8 pain free minutes, and all done in time for Christmas and New Year!

So aside from a little bit of swelling, i can now enjoy a busy, happy and pain free Christmas with DH and the DCs Smile

You all kept me half sane last night when I was climbing the walls, Wine and Flowers for you all x

So amazing! I'm really pleased for you.

Enjoy that wine!

VaticanAssassin · 23/12/2015 18:37

You're all lovely for caring pingpong, overdramatic and rasko - I'm definitely a million times better and look forward to a nice Christmas dinner on Friday!

Fluffy I've been reading about dry socket this afternoon, it sounds awful. I don't smoke or do heavy exercise Grin and I'll be on softer food for a few days, so should be okay..mulled wine will be compulsory tomorrow though!

Lorelei I actually did take a dose of morphine before my teeth were extracted because I expected it to be traumatic! It wasn't, there was no pain, and the walk home in my headphones was pain free too. I suppose it's hard to feel toothache when the offenders are in the bin Grin
