AIBU?

to think that Cilla Black wasn't as perfect as she is made out to be

According to her son, Cilla Black died laughing at Jeremy Kyle and drinking champagne.

As someone that was supposed to have remembered " where she came from" there are so many anecdotes about what a diva she was. From the way she treated cabin crew, to the time she showed no empathy to the family of a motorcyclist her son had killed in a crash (she was more worried about if he would go to prison) this is just another example of how she saw herself as being above the rest.

Laughing at people who obviously have issues, be it in relationships or in life in general isn't pleasant. I just don't get the public fawning over her when she sounds like an unpleasant person. Perhaps it is just another case of celebrity worship.

The people of Liverpool don't fawn over her. Her poor Mother was doing heavy manual labour in all weathers when Cilla was already a millionaire. Fact. She completely turned her back on who her family were and where she came from. And she voted tory, after Hillsborough. Not a nice woman at all.

Milkmilk. Just because she is dead does stop the public adoration for a woman who I personally find in bad taste herself.

How do people know these things?

How'd you know she voted Tory after Hillsborough?

Being dead shouldn't exempt people from criticism

What do you want to criticise her for then? Criticism for being human? Less than perfect? Can you imagine any of her sons reading this as they face their first Christmas without their Mother. Disgusting and pointless.

What is the point of criticising dead people?

I was in no way a fan and quite disliked her showbiz persona but what is the point in dong some kind of character assassination now. She had her fans and that's why she was a success.

I used to work with one of her sons who was the nicest person you could ever want to meet. If she brought up someone so down to earth and lovely I can;t believe she wasn;t a very good person. So she had a laugh - so what.

She was something of a pin up girl for the Conservatives and never hid her support of them.

Well if you're talking about lunatics like Hitler, Saddam or Jihadi John, knock yourself out.

Cilla Black isn't in their league is she.

Oh good grief, she was an entertainer - she never claimed to be Mother Theresa. She was a human being like the rest of us.

As for her politics - well that's her own business, isn't it? I believe that's how it generally works in a democracy.

This thread is in such poor taste.

I'll admit to also having a laugh at some of the things I hear on JK. Its a long time since Ive lived in the UK and some of the people on JK are very funny, they have a fantastic sense of humour despite it all.

How does he know how she died, I thought she was alone at the time and wasn't found until some time later and iirc she died during the day so not watching JK in the evening

It is well known. She appeared on stage at the 1992 Tory party conference applauding . And I have family who knew her parents. My Mum is from the same area and was the same age. There's a well documented fued between Ricky Tomlinson and Cilla Black because of this stuff.

Anyway you're right speaking ill of the dead is not my bag, I just saw the thread title and responded. She did do some pretty galling stuff in life, but was talented, did well for herself and may she rest in peace.

Well she could have kept quiet about it - but she chose not to, that made/makes it a legitimate topic. If she'd refused to discuss it instead of kissing Thatcher's arse, we'd never have no known.

He said that when he left her she was watching JK and having a glass of Champagne. So whilst its not technically correct that she died whilst watching JK and having a wee drink, his last memory of his mum is seeing her enjoying herself and thats what he wants to hang on to - and who could blame him?

And no one said she was watching JK at night. The person who did mention the timing obviously forget about the time difference between the Uk and Spain, or the fact she could have recorded it.

Its me who's watching it at night - right now with a wee drink and a bit of christmas cake,

I don't see why she was obliged to keep quiet about her politics though? I don't like the Tories either but they are a legitimate political party. I can't really see the problem.

I didn't realise she was supposed to be a national sweetheart so haven't judged her against that standard. Most of us would fail there though.

It's fine to talk about Chery Cole's weight. It's fine to talk shit about Peter Andre and so on. It's not fine to talk about Cilla Black because she is dead? There is so much nasty stuff posted about Peter Andre and Jamie Olive, but that's ok, they are alive!

I don't get that line of thought. It's either ok to talk shit about famous people or it isn't, dead or not doesn't really matter.

She annoyed me but I was a little sad when she died because she was a part of my childhood, well her shows were.

Before she died she was often brought up on here on the 'celebs I hate' threads and if you google her there are loads of anecdotes on forums. I think she admitted though that she wasn't always nice. The drama shown last year showed how selfish she was to Bobby and that was lifted from her autobiography wasn't it?

Surely, it's all context too.
We have a multi millionaire local lad who ended up footy manager and then owner of the club.
his mum still sells books on the market, because she wants too. it's company for her and where she feels she belongs.
Now anybody else could see it as her son has given her nothing and turned his back on her, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Cilla was slated as she made an appearance in our town once, it was to open something.
She had an aunt in the town she didn't call on at that time.
She had a busy schedule, was due on stage and had done the opening as good will as well as the dosh of course. Although, small town and a charity I'm not sure she's have got much for it.
Anyway, papers said "Too busy to visit aunt....." as she didn't care.

We only know what we read unless we are close to them.
As I said the little I had to do with her she was lovely, certainly no diva.
She was approachable, had us in her dressing room, told us stories of performances, a few golden snippets of advice and because of her I took the path I did.
What she was like personally I don't know as I am neither friend nor family.

An amazing entertainer and I believe a pioneer for women on tv.
May she RIP.

Not if some things being said on here are anything to go by.

It seems you are are only a 'good' person if you vote the same way they do.

People seem to get so get up they forget that there are good and bad of all political persuasions.
