to think that Cilla Black wasn't as perfect as she is made out to be

According to her son, Cilla Black died laughing at Jeremy Kyle and drinking champagne.

As someone that was supposed to have remembered " where she came from" there are so many anecdotes about what a diva she was. From the way she treated cabin crew, to the time she showed no empathy to the family of a motorcyclist her son had killed in a crash (she was more worried about if he would go to prison) this is just another example of how she saw herself as being above the rest.

Laughing at people who obviously have issues, be it in relationships or in life in general isn't pleasant. I just don't get the public fawning over her when she sounds like an unpleasant person. Perhaps it is just another case of celebrity worship.

What did Cilla Black, with working class roots, have in common with the people who appear on Jeremy Kyle, people who rarely work and generally speaking are part of the underclass which has always existed?

As far as I am aware, it was her treatment of "service" staff, in particular cabin crew, which she was disliked for.

Who cares? The woman is dead

How lovely Hmm

Who cares? The woman is dead.

And her son is not a reliable source of information. He became her agent, she stuck him in a shed at the end of her garden, he was terrible at the job and she fired him.

i had the great misfortune to have to speak to him on the phone about her appearing on a TV show once and he was the creepiest of creeps ever.

Whereas you sound delightful Shock

Sansoora · 22/12/2015 15:53

Drinking alcohol whilst watching JK is actually pretty sad.

It wasnt on at 9am where she lived.

For eg, its almost 8pm where I live and Im watching it now.

Ohbehave1 · 22/12/2015 15:54

MrsDeVere. I wasn't laughing one little bit!

PiperChapstick · 22/12/2015 15:54

I think what the OP is trying to say is that Cilla was really not a very nice person based on things various people have said (I've heard lots about her bad attitude including on MN) and she's lauded as a wonderful legend. Which I think is a fair observation so YANBU

BadLad · 22/12/2015 15:54

Perhaps she couldn't catch JK live, so she taped it to watch later.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 22/12/2015 15:56

It's gossip and you've started a thread months after her death to have a pop at her, that is odd.

Ohbehave1 · 22/12/2015 15:58

Thank you Piper. Exactly what i was trying to say. And hardly in bad taste. I said the same when she was alive ( apart from Jeremy Kyle thing - obviously didn't know about that )

wasonthelist · 22/12/2015 15:58

I don't get the not forgiving her for supporting Thatcher was. I mean I know why you don't like Thatcher, I dislike her as much as I could dislike anyone I have never met, but why would you need to forgive a light entertainer?

Because I did like the early Blind Date - and I actually quite liked some of her music. I was massively disappointed she was such a Maggie fan.

LagunaBubbles · 22/12/2015 15:59

Im no fan of Cilla but this thread is really odd. What did you do OP, in between planning what to have for Christmas dinner suddenly think "Never mind the turkey, I know what I will do, I will start a hate thread about Cilla Black on MN" type thing? Confused

Ohbehave1 · 22/12/2015 15:59

Not odd Still. Just that the comments about her watching JK and laughing at it have just come to light.

No it isn't.

Nottodaythankyouorever · 22/12/2015 16:00

I think what the OP is trying to say is that Cilla was really not a very nice person based on things various people have said

Other people have said different over the years.

It us all idle gossip tbh.

Sansoora · 22/12/2015 16:00

I think there is some truth in her not being as much of the nations sweetheart as her family and friends would like believe - in the months following her death her JustGiving page has raised only 5k.

And I did think it was quite a slip of the tongue when Paul O Grady described her at her funeral as being a 'daughter of London'

She had long since left Liverpool behind and her link to it was purely as a professional Liverpudlian with an exaggerated accent.

Bubblesinthesummer · 22/12/2015 16:02

I think there is some truth in her not being as much of the nations sweetheart as her family and friends would like believe

That could be said about many celebrities though. Even ones loved by MN.

Branleuse · 22/12/2015 16:04

who the fuck even said she was perfect?

She was just a famous woman is all.

Why are people not allowed to be flawed?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 22/12/2015 16:04

It is odd but each to their own and all that if you feel compelled to start a bashing thread.

She may well have been a massive bitch but since when was that a criminal offence?

Crispbutty · 22/12/2015 16:05

The thing about her watching Jeremy Kyle was only in the news today.

noeffingidea · 22/12/2015 16:05

I thought she collapsed on her balcony and was unable to call for help.
Anyway, Cilla Black was always first or second on my celebrity hate list, but to be fair, there hasn't been any shit revealed about her since her death, so she can RIP as far as I'm concerned.
Entertainment wise, definitely was overrated IMO, but plenty of people did like her.

wasonthelist · 22/12/2015 16:05

, I will start a hate thread about Cilla Black on MN

FFS - when did questioning whether she was a nice as some folk thought a "hate" thread? Talk about overreaction. If you feel it's inappropriate, you don't have to contribute - it's no more/less trivial/odd etc than many of the threads on here.

goldglittershitter · 22/12/2015 16:06

I didn't like Cilla Black, couldn't abide her politics etc n, from what I have heard locally, she wasn't actually a nice person BUT I don't think it covers u in glory to open this thread just to chat muck about a dead person really, OP.

BadLad · 22/12/2015 16:06

The thing about her watching Jeremy Kyle was only in the news today.

That this nugget of shite was considered "news" is very depressing.
