To throw away ugly Xmas cards I receive?

Some of the Xmas cards we've received this year are really horrible, gaudy, cheap looking things.

I don't want ugly cards on display in my house so I want to just keep the nice ones that fit with my colour scheme.

DH said he doesn't care and also doesn't want ugly cards up.

My friend came around today and was horrified by the idea that I wouldn't display every card we get, no matter how ugly.

So WIBU to dump all of the cards I don't like? We don't have any visitors over Xmas so no risk of offending anyone by this if they come and don't see their card up.

carcass Grin have you thought of adding that to a Janet and Roy?

RiverTam · 11/12/2015 14:31

thats you do understand that your 'nice' might not be the same as someone else's? Or thst perhaps they can only afford the cheaper cards?

Some people really don't understand Christmas, do they?!

thecatsarecrazy · 11/12/2015 14:31

Haha 😆 colour scheme!!! Was it you that asked for gifts you receive to only be in your colour scheme?
Lucky to receive any cards.

molyholy · 11/12/2015 14:33

I can't stand Christmas Cards. They just make the place look cluttered and messy. But I also don't like birthday cards and take mine down the morning after the actual day of my bday. Such a pointless waste of money. yes, I am a misbag But in my defence I love Christmas and do have a tree deccies. It's just cards. I make my dd put hers up in her bedroom Grin

'Frankly if someone doesn't deem me important enough to send me a decent card then I don't deem them important enough to display it.'

YABU. The people who send me and DH are friends and family. A lot of them have written thoughtful messages inside.
I think they would be very upset
I've never had a Christmas colour scheme.

squoosh · 11/12/2015 14:35

'These days, however, her sojourn tends to be of somewhat longer duration!)'

BetterCall as much as I love the eccentric aunt she isn't given house room till a week or so before Christmas.

Putting a tree up in November will never be me! Grin

Inkanta · 11/12/2015 14:36

Yeah - I just put out a few of the nice ones.

The others I put in the drawer.

Inkanta · 11/12/2015 14:42

Yes I like old baubles and sentimental decorations but don't I like thin cheapo Christmas cards for some reason.

Bettercallsaul1 · 11/12/2015 14:43

As regards not displaying children's - obviously amateurish - artwork and decorations, it boils down to whether you value the appearance of Christmas - especially to the outside world - more than it's essence and meaning. Do we want an advert of Christmas or the real thing?

squoosh · 11/12/2015 14:43

Ahhh that's very cute indeed thecatsarecrazy.

chrome100 · 11/12/2015 14:45

Sometimes I think I worry too much in life.

Then I read threads like this and feel reassuringly easy-going. YABVU!

Pancakeflipper · 11/12/2015 14:46

I email out a colour chart of acceptable colours to those whom I know to have low Christmas card standards. Bit like Farrow & Ball really but to match my tinsel.

Pancakeflipper · 11/12/2015 14:46

I am joking.

Inkanta · 11/12/2015 14:49

Pancake Xmas Grin

Badders123 · 11/12/2015 14:49

What a sad thread this is turning out to be :(
I love displaying my kids stuff. They are small for such a short time.
I have just ordered some star wars themed baubles.
They will fit with our theme because our theme is "whatever makes us happy"
Xmas Smile

'to those whom I know to have low Christmas card standards.'

Grin

I bet Elton John does that!

wasonthelist · 11/12/2015 14:53

My "scheme" is deliberately hideous (partly to do with having a young DD who does the tree, mainly to do with thinking doing otherwise would be pretentious and up my own arse) Op do what you like of course, but I am glad I don't know anyone so shallow in RL.

Bettercallsaul1 · 11/12/2015 14:53

thecats I sent my post before seeing your photo. Your son's reindeer decoration is obviously highly polished and professional! Grin

CFSsucks · 11/12/2015 14:54

Shock I'm actually gobsmacked that there are people rude enough to throw away or immediately recycle Christmas cards they are given for whatever reason.

I think that's an appalling lack of manners. I'm also shocked that the amount of people who seem to agree with the OP.

Glad I've scaled down how many I give cards to if this is the thanks!

desertmum · 11/12/2015 14:54

Star wars sounds good, I bought a royal corgi tree Dec from the Buck House shop this year - hand made, the Queen is multi talented Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 11/12/2015 14:56

Ps - it is a reindeer? Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 11/12/2015 14:56

Completely agree CFS Xmas Shock
