To throw away ugly Xmas cards I receive?

BollockSandwich · 11/12/2015 11:48

Some of the Xmas cards we've received this year are really horrible, gaudy, cheap looking things.

I don't want ugly cards on display in my house so I want to just keep the nice ones that fit with my colour scheme.

DH said he doesn't care and also doesn't want ugly cards up.

My friend came around today and was horrified by the idea that I wouldn't display every card we get, no matter how ugly.

So WIBU to dump all of the cards I don't like? We don't have any visitors over Xmas so no risk of offending anyone by this if they come and don't see their card up.

I'll try and remember when I go to my nans, not sure when that is at the moment. It is shit though. Every year I moan at her to get rid of it. Every year it sits on her tree, looking crappy. Grin

As find confirmed Christmas is all about cards and tat bring it on. I think it's a bit miserable not like cards too even if they are not the prettiest

gandalf456 · 11/12/2015 21:37

As far as I'm concerned

ImtheChristmasCarcass · 11/12/2015 23:45

Maryz that Christmas 'theme' thread is bonkers!

Jacob You're right, that would make a good Janet and Roy!

WeThreeMythicalKings · 12/12/2015 06:55

How to tell OP that her theme is very 2012?

I have a friend who does this shit for a living and she assures me that this year's on trend is gold and cream on a green tree. Teal, pink and lime green have had their day, apparently. As have black trees.

She visibly flinches when she comes to us over Christmas. Always red, green and gold. if I hang on long enough I'll be on trend one year.

I have a theory that people who have a themed Christmas explosion in their homes... have very dull homes for the rest of the year.
Those homes with a mish - mash^ are obviously living in lovely surroundings all year long.

Wasonalist oh doubting Thomas...you had better believe the poster who has the valuable stuff! Vintage cards are valuablr!

We have pre-war hand blown glass ornaments that would fetch auction prices to make your eyes water.

Thank God for a delightful gay nephew and his partner ,who will be taking them off our hands soon as careful custodians .

The more doddery we get,the more we like the look of what everyone is describing above!

Bodicea · 12/12/2015 23:52

My observations of Christmas decd is that colour schemes are generally seen as a bit naff - thr further away from traditional colours and the more coordinated the more naff.
Sort of goes hand in hand with feature wallpaper in those bold patterns which are equally naff.
It's a bit of a class thing though isn't it? or for those with v sterile ocd clean type houses.

I asked an acquaintance who had a teal and white tree whether she was going for the Barclays look. It just slipped out while I stopped myself asking if she'd nicked it from Barclays' foyer!

I bought all new decs for our green plastic tree when DH and I hosted our first Christmas. All red and gold and I did paper, crackers etc to match. I was fully aware it was obsessive and weird though! And we add new decs in whatever colour they come. DD has made a salt dough bauble which will go on, and we're painting family names onto some of the gold ones, plus DM has given me all the old family ones. I fully expect utterly tasteless Christmas by 2016!

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2015 21:28

I was in the Orthodontist with DS2 today. Tree decorations Teal and silver, with coordinated wrapped empty boxes underneath. i smiled to myself.

TheoriginalLEM · 17/12/2015 21:30

i hated our Christmas tree iin the end. fucking colour scheme. fucking competition with rest of the family. i wasn't allowed to TOUCH it, let alone hang any of the decorations.
