Downstairs neighbour complaining about my breastpump, AIBU not to change rooms at night?

Just bought a new powerful pump as I'm exclusively expressing. We live in a flat that's split over 2 levels so our bedroom is on 1st floor, our lounge upstairs on 2nd floor. Our neighbour (on ground floor) caught me in hall to ask what the 'mechanical noise' is that wakes her up Blush I explained its my breastpump and that I need to express at 11pm, 3am and 7am to maintain supply. She said it makes ceiling vibrate and is very loud (even though it's not on the floor it's on a cushion on my bedside table!) She asked me to do it upstairs. I explained this isn't practical as my DH wears earplugs so I need to be able to hear baby if he wakes. She suggested I take baby upstairs with me!! Why should I have to move my sleeping baby upstairs (and risk waking him) every time I express milk? He's just started sleeping through and got used to his cot. And there's no way I'm going to move cot upstairs and sleep on sofa for the next 8months Angry

AIBU to think it's rude to tell someone not to express milk in their own bedroom? It's not like I'm playing loud music! I don't see why neighbour can't just get some earplugs!

My aunt has a vibrating bed - for massage. For ages I used to hear the sound on the floor below and not know what it was. Luckily she lives in a detached bungalow. I would imagine if she lived in a flat, she would have had comments. Most of the time it is the not knowing what it is. I used to thnk the neighbours were using some machine outside!!!

Just bottle feed !!

I know this is a zombie thread, and I know this is just one comment, but it's the straw that broke the camel's back. So many people are so rude and unsupportive, and just downright ignorant. The woman who felt compelled to have her thread about breastfeeding removed today because she had inadvertantly upset people for saying she was proud of breastfeeding, and now this thread and people's replied to it. Comments like "just bottle feed". It's as if breastfeeding is wrong. So many people seem to take an issue with this topic and it's incredibly saddening. I don't care whether people FF or BF, and I personally have done both. What I do take issue with is people's spiteful attitudes to either one - women should be able to feel they can do either and not feel they are doing the wrong thing. I don't feel I want to post here anymore - it's just downright nasty at times, and this subject in particular seems to bring out the worst in posters. Some of the comments I've read are just horrible. I know it's not customary to flounce on zombie threads but I'm doing it.

@ShowMePotatoSalad it's the same ignorant arseholes who tell you to just 'discipline your child', 'use your savings', 'hire a cleaner' etc.
These people have zero knowledge of how life can be for other people. They throw out stock answers just to kick someone when they're down, or speak for the sake of speaking.

Just curious as to why your DH is wearing earplugs! Is it so he can't hear that his own baby needs attention? Hmm
