To urge you all to buy a jar of coconut oil?

Some parts of this might be TMI, and I apologise in advance for that.

A few months ago, I had a boyfriend who had an unfortunate penis condition called balanitis, where it would get red, itchy and sore. The doctor prescribed him steroid cream and it did nothing to help, and in fact thinned the skin so much that his banjo string snapped Shock

I did some reading on the Internet, and found a forum saying someone had cured his balanitis with coconut oil. I suggested it to my bf and he gave it a go, his condition cleared up within a few days by applying coconut oil.

I bought a jar of it myself this week as it was on offer on Amazon. So far, I've tried it out on thrush...I woke up with a definite case of it, got a lump out of the jar (it's solid and melts on contact), ummmm inserted it, and hey presto, instant relief and no symptoms since.

Then yesterday I had a mega spot. Like the kind of spot that takes up half of your face and would normally take 3 weeks to heal. I applied coconut oil to it several times yesterday, and when I woke up this morning the spot had pretty much gone.

I've also been putting it on my hands and feet, where I get stress eczema, and it provides instant relief, and seems to be clearing it up.

Other things that it can apparently cure are nappy rash, impetigo, most kinds of infections (can be ingested if it's an internal thing), and loads more, do some googling.

Anyway, felt like I had to share. I'm well chuffed that for 6 quid I have a product that seems to deal with a lot of common health problems, and it actually works (and fast)!

Ooh it sounds marvellous. Although, i've heard it doesn't work for moodiness eh, Doreen??

RonaldMcDonald · 05/12/2015 13:40

IguanaTail · 05/12/2015 13:40

I've used it as shaving gel and it's great.

randomcatname · 05/12/2015 13:40

What a snippy thread about a jar of coconut oil!

I have some in my cupboard I've yet to find a use for. What I'd really like is for it to grow arms and legs and take over my life for me.

bruffin · 05/12/2015 13:43

Random
The snippynesd comes because people are being conned into paying extortionate prices for a jar of oil when there is no evidence it does what the marketing myths say it does.

Narp · 05/12/2015 13:44

Thanks for the info. OP

Doren - Give over

Narp · 05/12/2015 13:44

bruffin

Some of the snippiness was from someone who uses the stuff

MaidrinRua · 05/12/2015 13:47

I use it for loads of things. I started using it every night to take my make up off and it has made my rosacea disappear.

TeaFathers · 05/12/2015 13:48

i'm interested in this!
i've never used coconut oil for beauty.
could anyone recommend any brand that i could use for spots, dry skin and a flaky hairline on my forehead? ie boots etc?

PrincessMouse · 05/12/2015 13:48

Learnt something new. Didn't know about make up removal. Will try that tonight. Thanks for sharing

PeaceOfWildThings · 05/12/2015 13:49

I get massive jars from Holland and Barrat when it's in the penny sale.

PrincessMouse · 05/12/2015 13:50

I use coconoil which you can get on Amazon

CakeMountain · 05/12/2015 13:50

DoreenLethal what a completely unnecessarily spiteful reply Shock. I think OP was trying to help.

VulcanWoman · 05/12/2015 13:54

I use almond oil too.

Wholelottawe1ght · 05/12/2015 13:56

A gp reccomended it for my daughter long standing cradle cap/dermatitis, nothing would shift it and then used a dap of coconut oil in hair and bam gone!

CakeMountain · 05/12/2015 13:56

Clearly doesn't help with techiness though Wink

bruffin · 05/12/2015 13:58

Wholellotla
Any oil will shift it.

coffeeslave · 05/12/2015 14:01

FWIW, the cheap KTC brand coconut oil is as good as the £8-12 per jar stuff on Amazon. KTC is about £2.25-2.50 at any supermarket or ethnic grocer.

NewLife4Me · 05/12/2015 14:04

mixed with turmeric it is a brilliant face cleanser.
We use it for all kinds of things and have 6 huge jars atm. Grin
Far better to pull than use toothpaste too.

thegiddylimit · 05/12/2015 14:04

DS has a CMPA and coconut oil is one of the best butter substitutes because it has a similar melting point so behaves in a similar way. Which should also tell you that it's about as healthy as butter is, it's absolutely full of saturated fat. I love the smell of it and it's great to bake with if you like a coconut taste (it's good in biscuits IMHO) but all the woo health stuff I'll ignore.

Songlark · 05/12/2015 14:07

Doreen What an unpleasant post.

limitedperiodonly · 05/12/2015 14:07

Shock I have a white sink. Turmeric is my enemy. Only bleach gets it off. I wouldn't put it on my face.

Jux · 05/12/2015 14:12

I've had a large jar of it for months. It's great, and you can cook with it too!

I had no idea about thrush though. I don't get thrush, but I do know people who do, so I'll be sure to mention it. Less messy than yoghurt, I imagine Grin

Jux · 05/12/2015 14:14

Oh, and it's great for cracked heels. Mine didn't get much help from Flexitol or Footner, but I slather on cocnunt oil in the bath, relax in the lovely hot water, and forget about it. After I'd done that a few times my feet were so much better I can imagine wearing sandals next summer!

bigbuttons · 05/12/2015 14:16

the website coconoil supports farmers. It also has an African produced oil that is much milder in taste for those who want the benefits but aren't fond of coconut.
