To urge you all to buy a jar of coconut oil?

Some parts of this might be TMI, and I apologise in advance for that.

A few months ago, I had a boyfriend who had an unfortunate penis condition called balanitis, where it would get red, itchy and sore. The doctor prescribed him steroid cream and it did nothing to help, and in fact thinned the skin so much that his banjo string snapped Shock

I did some reading on the Internet, and found a forum saying someone had cured his balanitis with coconut oil. I suggested it to my bf and he gave it a go, his condition cleared up within a few days by applying coconut oil.

I bought a jar of it myself this week as it was on offer on Amazon. So far, I've tried it out on thrush...I woke up with a definite case of it, got a lump out of the jar (it's solid and melts on contact), ummmm inserted it, and hey presto, instant relief and no symptoms since.

Then yesterday I had a mega spot. Like the kind of spot that takes up half of your face and would normally take 3 weeks to heal. I applied coconut oil to it several times yesterday, and when I woke up this morning the spot had pretty much gone.

I've also been putting it on my hands and feet, where I get stress eczema, and it provides instant relief, and seems to be clearing it up.

Other things that it can apparently cure are nappy rash, impetigo, most kinds of infections (can be ingested if it's an internal thing), and loads more, do some googling.

Anyway, felt like I had to share. I'm well chuffed that for 6 quid I have a product that seems to deal with a lot of common health problems, and it actually works (and fast)!

20 minutes Phil? I don't think I could swish for that long, doesnt it make your mouth tired?

Timri · 05/12/2015 11:58

Through I don't think you're meant to swish vigorously like mouthwash, more slowly move it around through your teeth (so you don't get jaw ache)

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/12/2015 11:59

I tried oil pulling once, dear God I gagged after 1 minute .

PhilPhilConnors · 05/12/2015 11:59

No idea through, I couldn't put it in my mouth for a second :o

Timri · 05/12/2015 11:59

I tried oil pulling for two days, and got bored.

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2015 12:00

Oil pulling is bollocks anyway. If you live in a country where you have access to toothpaste and mouthwash it is totally pointless.

Timri · 05/12/2015 12:00

Also you only need a tiny bit as over the 20 mins the volume of it will double to to your own saliva being added to the mix (Am I selling it Grin )

Branleuse · 05/12/2015 12:00

this has just reminded me I need to get more.

Its brilliant on loads of things

Sallystyle · 05/12/2015 12:01

I keep hearing about the wonders of it. I still haven't got around to buying any though.

I'm not gargling anything for 20 minutes except maybe Baileys

Timri · 05/12/2015 12:02

And I especially like using it in summer, (as the warmer temperatures make it more oily in the jar, so it's just a dip job, rather than me using a spoon to get at it when it gets colder and hard)

BrandNewAndImproved · 05/12/2015 12:02

Don't use it on eczema.

It did help my ds athletes foot, a spoonful in the bath and his skin was lovely and soft. Then I got worried about blocking the drains with it Grin

Sallystyle · 05/12/2015 12:04

It costs £17 for 100 percent cold pressed oil. That's quite expensive.

Timri · 05/12/2015 12:05

BrandNew it made my manky athletes feet soo smooth!

Grin
Timri · 05/12/2015 12:06

Timri · 05/12/2015 12:07

IamCarcass · 05/12/2015 12:07

My friend was extolling the virtues of coconut oil on her face yesterday,

now wondering if you are her? Grin or maybe it is a sign from the universe that I should buy some...

Sallystyle · 05/12/2015 12:08

£4.99 is a much better price!

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 05/12/2015 12:08

Mine is raw, organic, cold pressed, extra virgin oil, and it was £5.99 (on offer). Have a look on Amazon. Groupon often have deals on it too.

I buy 2 for £8 in the Caribbean food shop near me.

Timri · 05/12/2015 12:13

The brand I buy is KTC 100% Virgin coconut oil cold pressed.
Just googled it, and tesco online sell it for £9 for 500 ml Angry (Robbing bastards!)

bruffin · 05/12/2015 12:15

OpThe supposed properties of Coconut oil is a marketing myth. It does do much for my eczema either.

Bailey101 · 05/12/2015 12:15

I bloody love coconut oil!! I only discovered it about a year ago, but now I couldn't live without it! I use it as a moisturiser and a deep conditioner and it's the only thing that's helped my ezcema (cleared it up within a few days). I found it really helped with taking the sting out of mouth ulcers too.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 05/12/2015 12:16

And don't use it for impetigo either - or any other infection for that matter. It is not some sort of anti-bacterial wonder drug!
