AIBU to want to fight the school powermum?

First time post, registered with mumsnet to get this off my chest actually! My children's school has a power mum. Helps in the school office (100 kids, small school), goes to all headmaster coffee mornings, lives v close to headmaster, on the PTA etc. She wins the 'guess the bear's name' competition at the xmas fayre after whispering that she won nothing in the raffle. She brings her dog into school with her, no-one else does. I am a reasonably intelligent person. I don't want her status, I just REALLY resent her overpowering status. Am I just bitter and twisted, should I grumble into my cheap wine or say something?

I am a parent governor and vice chair of the PTA. No, I don't do it out of pure altruism. I like knowing how things work, I like having a role, I like feeling helpful. I really like knowing things other people don't knowGrin. But I would love to know how I could use these roles to gain advantage for my child. Could someone enlighten me, please?

I'm on the PTA committee because no one else would volunteer and we weren't going to meet our obligations as a registered charity.

I'm a parent govenor because I have professional skills I can bring to the role, and a genuine interest in education - I will continue to be a governor after my children leave the school at the end of this academic year.

And my kids are just golden. They can't help it, poor sods.

Having just read the entire thread, I can conclude that ....

Multivac is a smug arse.

There.

These bloody do Gooders helping at school, raising money, getting things done in the community, being all capable and organised.
I can see the annoyance.

There is a power mum at our school. Also the dog shit. I have one of those guilt complexes that means that whenever someone is accused of wrong-doing, I always think it's me.

When the Headteacher sent out the email about the dog poo, for a split second I thought she was talking about me. And then I remembered that we don't have a dog.

Yes, this is the prob. I would have loved to be on the committee but didn't have the confidence to try, had never been in meetings, had never given my view in a public situation (career didn't require that). And would never have had the confidence to chivvy people into running the toy stall or whatever.

But then of course was envious of those that did/ their relaxed relationship with staff, their knowledge of what was going on in the school.

Thankfully DCs are encouraged in school to speak out/ speak publicly nowadays, from a young age. So hopefully don't feel like I did once parents.

That's a really good point, and certainly the case at my kids' school.

It seems wish you had her energy, time and 'can-do' spirit OP? So you label her with a disparaging term and wish she'd piss off back to the shadows and stop getting involved in helping the school get things done?

I think you're being silly and immature. Still, you're getting a fair bit of support!
