Yes its totally cheesy and unrealistic but that's all part of the fun, its a funny film. With some genuinely touching moments of pathos. The scene where Emma,Thompson I getting dressed after being given the Joni Mitchell CD gets me every single time. Love the "porn" stars, love Bill Nighy. Great film and I will be watching it this Christmas. So there!

Sorry Chilla Thanks

She did set out to have an affair with him though. While he was entirely responsible for his own choices, it doesn't make her any less of a bitch. I dislike that character too. Everybody else in that film has some likeable characteristics, apart from her and the Billy Bob Thornton characters.

As suspected, ET and AR stay together but life is always "a little bit worse", and it is, it really is :(

I refuse to believe that Grin

Emma Thompson is indeed a great actress. I do cringe a bit when I see her interviewed but she is brilliant at the whole 'acting without words' thing. When I watched her and Anthony Hopkins' heartrending performance in Remains Of The Day I was watching with a couple of friends who just didn't get their awkward interaction with one another and kept saying things like, 'Why are they saying that, why don't they just say etc, etc?' I held it all in until I got home then burst into floods of tears to the point that my husband thought something terrible had happened to me on the way home! Xmas Grin

Watched tonight. Dd watched beginning but went to bed part way through. No problem with body double scenes she didn't bat an eyelid (15).

I think films like this you take at face value they're not meant to be deep an meaningful.

I LOVE Emma Thompson but may be biased as she's half weegie and lives near me sort of (could say more but I'd have to kill you Grin)

I didn't see the film when it first came out as I was busy dealing with sbxh infidelity that year and a 2 year old. The ET scenes addressing the infidelity are heartbreakingly accurate. But agree both Mia and Andrew Lincoln's characters are shits for messing with married people NOT that this negates responsibility of married folk!

I love Liam neesons role too and again heartbreaking that his own wife was lost not long after.

Laura linney superb as always. Dd reminded me she's yet to watch the Truman show which I must source for her.

Kris Marshall I like but hated that storyline, that was about lust not love! Would have been better to have lesbian storyline as in my mind the film is about the many forms of love.

Rewatched tonight too.

As well as ET being surprised at AR getting the kids ready to go out which a PP noticed and mentioned upthread..... i noticed tonight that just before AR goes to buy the necklace ET says to him "You find something to occupy you while i organise something (gifts she must have meant) for our mothers"

So i think we can assume that ETs character organised and had to manage everything in the run up to Christmas too...... you see on many Xmas threads on here how some are expected to organise and buy for their DHs family too.

There you go, everyone. They finally answered the big question!

Yes, he did have a full blown affair with her and DID sleep with her.

Yes, they stayed together - but not happy.
