Yes its totally cheesy and unrealistic but that's all part of the fun, its a funny film. With some genuinely touching moments of pathos. The scene where Emma,Thompson I getting dressed after being given the Joni Mitchell CD gets me every single time. Love the "porn" stars, love Bill Nighy. Great film and I will be watching it this Christmas. So there!

Oh yes. When I see that scene I always think how sad it is that Lynden David Hall died so young.

My dd and I love this , I watch very few films at home but every Christmas we watch Love actually at least 2 or 3 times between November and Christmas , I think it's the soundtrack that makes it so watchable ,not a bad bit of music in it .

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 03/12/2015 13:05

Love it. Seen it loads of times and will continue to watch it every time it's on!

zeetea · 03/12/2015 13:10

chanelfreak baileys hot choc?! Why haven't I had this before!!

Shockers · 03/12/2015 13:27

There are parts that make me cringe, but I still love it!

About a Boy is the same; I'd count it as a favourite, but there are parts I really don't think work. I think I love that one because it's DS2's favourite and we watch it together.

Clawdy · 03/12/2015 13:29

I've said it before on here but I hate the bit where Martine M.says "Where the fuck is my fucking coat?" In front of her parents and little brother! But everything else I love. Even the Kris Marshall bit is clever, because we all expect him to come to a sticky end and be totally humiliated in America, and that story has a real twist! Still find myself urging Laura L to switch her phone off just for half an hour! every time.

chanelfreak · 03/12/2015 13:44

zeetea HTH my dear! It is quite divine Xmas Smile

SisterMoonshine · 03/12/2015 13:45

I don't get it, sorry. I find it to be a collection of short stories that are too short to have any kind of depth to any of the characters. And I don't understand how people can love it so much, be crying etc.

MeridianB · 03/12/2015 13:49

Lynden David Hall fan (him who sings 'All You Need Is Love' at the KK and CE wedding) but he died of cancer a few years after the film came out

I didn't know this - how sad. What a great cameo he makes in it - his performance is lovely.

InYearAdmissions · 03/12/2015 14:00

Someone hand me a grip, I am literally welling up just reading this thread...

I LOVE this film, but cry from start to finish. I will never tire of it and love stumbling on it if I am channel hopping and dipping into it wherever it is at.

I love all the RC romcoms but this is the best by a long way.

Dancergirl · 03/12/2015 14:07

We always call them 'Ant or Dec' in our house now!

Yes, us too! Grin

squoosh · 03/12/2015 14:10

I remember reading that a Hollywood studio wanted to produce an ensemble film like Love Actually, it was based on New Year's Eve or Valentine's Day or something.

But they wanted to make a less cynical film! Grin

To me Love Actually is two hours of treacle topped with marshmallows so I'm not sure how much 'sweeter' they wanted the film to be.

Hygge · 03/12/2015 14:30

Twooter Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant are brother and sister in this film.

Liam Neeson's character and Emma Thompson's character know each other because she was his deceased wife's friend.

I always found it a bit weird that she was cheerfully discussing lobsters one minute, and then just as cheerfully popping into her friend's funeral the next.

Magtils · 03/12/2015 14:39

My Dh and I love love this film. It's part of our Christmas DVD watch list! We actually named our daughter after one of the characters. We couldn't think of a name we both loved then heard this name whilst watching it when 8 months pregnant and thought "that's the one!"

The80sweregreat · 03/12/2015 14:47

When Huge Grant says to Martine ( i am paraphrasing here) ' your ex thought you are fat, I can call the army on him you know, they are but a phone call away!' Something like that.
Ant or Dec and the drugs line. The relationship with Bill Nighy and his manager, quite sweet.
Hate the porn star stand ins and Alan Rickman giving in the temptress though. Keira is also annoying.
Do love it, and i cry at the end. Dh thinks im a sentimental fool.

chilledwarmth · 03/12/2015 15:53

It's a good Christmas film to watch. I love the bit where the guy starts lecturing kids not to buy drugs, and the others start nodding in agreement then he launches into "go become a pop star and they give you them for free!" ANNNNNNND we'll cut to a commercial break there very quickly..

Hygge · 03/12/2015 16:57

Magtils is her name Aurelia?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/12/2015 17:58

Well I am glad some people agree with me! Although I do agree with the Keira Knightlkey naysayers - she is normally a good actress but I also hate that "I look quite pretty" line. And that hideous fluffy white jumper that she wears. I don't get why people get so het up about it, yes it's a daft, unbelievable, unrealistic bit of fluff and nonsense, but thats sort of the whole point...

It is Hygge.

Hygge · 03/12/2015 18:49

It had to be that one, it's the most beautiful name in the film Xmas Smile

hollyisalovelyname · 03/12/2015 18:50

I love it too. Blush

TesticleOfObjectivity · 03/12/2015 19:40

I used to be annoyed with the little boy who "loves" the school girl so learns to play the drums etc instead of just talking to her, until I realised it's about him and his step dad's relationship and how he comes to call him "dad".

I always thought the joke with Martine M was that she isn't really fat.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 03/12/2015 20:59

That deleted scene! Thanks for sharing, how touching. Wish they left it in instead of that plot where the chap goes to America for no reason...

CFSsucks · 03/12/2015 21:06

I love it and it's not my usual type of film. It's just a bit of lighthearted fun, not a documentary.

When the woman who is in love with Carl leaves him to go and see her brother I want to scream every time! Have a life yourself and switch your phone off .

travellinglighter · 03/12/2015 21:29

Am I the only man who really likes it?? So sad.
