Yes its totally cheesy and unrealistic but that's all part of the fun, its a funny film. With some genuinely touching moments of pathos. The scene where Emma,Thompson I getting dressed after being given the Joni Mitchell CD gets me every single time. Love the "porn" stars, love Bill Nighy. Great film and I will be watching it this Christmas. So there!

I LOVE this film and me and dh watch it annually! Emma Thompson straightening the covers has me in floods of tears every time as well as the bit Laura Linney gets together with Carl and they play Eva Cassidy Songbird. I thought Liam and Emma were siblings too but could never work out how he never crossed paths with HG as they'd also be related....
Assumed MM being called fat was a joke as she clearly isn't.
Anyone know exactly what happened in the awkward scene with Billybob Thornton when HG walks in on them?
Not a big fan of the kids' storyline, but guess it helps to develop kid and LN's relationship.
Love Andrew Lincoln (yes, he will always be Egg to me!) and cry at the bit when he says "Enough".
I don't think AR necessarily has an affair with her.....The RA character in the shop packaging the necklace is hilarious and even my dh laughs at this.
The Sex scene doubles are sweet, however it means I can't watch this with my kids until they're much older! Would have to do a lot of explaining!

shrunkenhead · 03/12/2015 21:33

No, my dh is a man and also enjoys this film!

LeonardoAcropolis · 03/12/2015 21:33

Who else loves the bit where the little girls dance to Hugh Grant and his protection officer's singing?

shrunkenhead · 03/12/2015 21:37

I love it when he starts singing the carols and then his bodyguard is clearly a proper Welsh choir singer and a natural, the look on HG's face!

flowerygirl · 03/12/2015 21:51

Love love watching it at Christmas but no bloody way would Hugh Grant go out with Martine. It would be like David Cameron going out with Natalie Cassidy. Just stupid.

M48294Y · 03/12/2015 22:02

Yabu! Really, it's a terrible pile of old shite.

CainInThePunting · 03/12/2015 22:07

I love it too and agree re Emma Thompson's CD scene, I don't tend to blub at films but that puts a lump in my throat. Every time. Plus, I don't mind admitting it.

OrangeIsMyNewBlack · 04/12/2015 00:25

OH MY FUCKING GOD.

That link though, that fucking link.

That's the funniest thing I have ever read. I completely lost it at "cock-blocktopus"

Kryptonite · 04/12/2015 00:33

I've never actually seen all of Love Actually. I am a huge cheese/rom com/ chick flick lover though so how this is possible is beyond me.
I've seen bits of it when it's been on telly. Just not the whole thing. I feel I need to rectify this soon.
Love stuff like Notting Hill, Bridget Jones' Diary, so know I'd probably love this!

HelenaDove · 04/12/2015 00:45

Golden i love that deleted scene and much prefer it to the other one they chose instead.

Yep flowery no upper/middle class man has ever been attracted to a working class woman Hmm

Gladysandtheflathamsandwich · 04/12/2015 00:52

It would be like David Cameron going out with Natalie Cassidy. Just stupid.

I know! She is totally out of his league.

Gladysandtheflathamsandwich · 04/12/2015 00:57

In my version, Andrew Lincoln gets smacked in the face with his stereo by Keira Knightly for being a two faced fucking creep and then it cuts to the deleted scene.

How the fuck did they justify leaving that out? A film about love and they left that out? It was beautiful and moving and made me cry. Francis DLT and Anne R were both just incredible, it was a sad loss to the film.

HelenaDove · 04/12/2015 01:01

Agree Gladys....the title of the film was LOVE Actually after all and the Kris Marshall scenes were more about sex.

The Francis and Anne scene should NEVER have been cut.

driveninsanebythehubby · 04/12/2015 11:46

Oh I just love this film - it's one of my all time favourites, and not just for Christmas!
Ma couple of years ago I sat down to watch it with the kids having COMPLETELY forgotten about the porn couple and all the swearing Blush I very hurriedly switched it off which of course also annoyed the kids! Whoops!

SweetBaker · 04/12/2015 12:00

Am I the only one who cannot watch the funeral without tears? I've tried so many times to not cry when they start playing that song and I just can't!

ChatEnOeuf · 04/12/2015 12:01

Love it too.

'Just in cases' is now a normal phrase in our house...

Dancergirl · 04/12/2015 12:03

Love the Kris Marshall bits in the film. Very funny.

the Honest Trailers clip from the link to the deleted scenes up above is very funny.

I luffs it Grin

TeaFathers · 04/12/2015 12:33

i always end up watching, even though its thoroughly naff.
there are some really cringey bits that make me switch channel till they're over.
i agree its a bit sexist.
richard curtis really is a truly dreadful director. just dire.

LadyNym · 04/12/2015 13:10

I love it and am not ashamed to admit it.

LA was the film DH and I went to see on our first date, though, so it has special significance. We watch on that date every year...it's coming up soon.

To the poster who said they didn't understand why people liked the ET bits: don't you like any sad films/books etc.? It's just the same as tragedies - some nice catharsis.

CheesyWeez · 04/12/2015 13:16

If we catch each other doing something something silly / embarrassing in our house we say (à la Hugh Grant)
"Ah yes Mary. I've been thinking. Can we move the Japanese Ambassador to 4 o'clock? Thank you"

bachsingingmum · 04/12/2015 13:19

I can vaguely manage to smile about it now. My DH had an inappropriate relationship with a Portuguese speaking Brazilian cleaning lady at his office. It was all sorted out, but it wasn't a happy time. Then he bought me this DVD for Christmas, clearly being totally unaware of the plot lines, as was I. We watched it together Shock. And I've always been a Colin Firth fan. We've not watched it since...

So no, I don't love it.
