to think Beyonce isn't a great dancer?

DD is in a play where her and a few friends do a dance routine to Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love'.

I'm not a fan of Beyonce on many levels and I just don't get why lots of people talk up what a great dancer she is. Perhaps the choreography she's consistently had isn't great but am I missing something?

She seems very heavy footed to me with very little grace and fluidity. All she seems to do is shrug her shoulders up and down, booty pop and whip her head around from side to side.

DD is constantly going on about what a great dancer Beyonce is but I just can't see it. I did dance for many years but I'm no expert so maybe I am missing something.

With her body image thing what I understand is that you can always tell when she is about to do something. Movie, music video or magazine spread she tends to lose weight. Last one was the vogue mag. Then a few months later put all the weight back on. Silly fans went and bought the book for vegan diet detox. While she has moved on.

The thing that annoys me the most is the feminist who think that the only Feminist way is their way and any other woman who eg Beyoncé has no right to comment on feminism. The fact that Beyoncé as a singer would probably not like to be paid less than her husband for the same job would make her feminist.

Yes, she had her dad as her manager and maybe husband as her manger now but that does not make her less of a feminist. I actually think that the most influential person for her carrier has been a female that most people don't even know about. She controls most of her PA things and I think that she has done a great job. Yes and let's not forget Oprah.

IoraRua · 30/11/2015 18:33

She's a great singer and performer, but like you OP I don't rate her dancing skills.
Hmm at the people saying you're nitpicking because she's a woman - actually, if we were all happy clappy over everything a woman can do, that would be patronising. Nothing wrong with not being into her dancing.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 18:34

What about Oprah ?

Debbriana1 · 30/11/2015 18:39

Yes, technically Ciara is better dancer but her singing is alright. Her energy is no were near what Beyoncé has. The baby did not ruin Ciara's career. She ruined it because of her attitude which a lot of media people complained about a lot about seven years ago. Some of the people she worked with in the beginning wanted nothing to do with her. missy Eliot gave a her a platform as her backup dancer but you don't see the two them together anymore.

Debbriana1 · 30/11/2015 18:57

Oprah was the person who advised her not to talk about her personal life. This was around 2003 -4. It wasn't her dad. Before that she was very goby and had no filter. She used to have very strong Texan accent that has all changed now.

And you can tell when she is doing interviews that she is trying to say words properly and constantly thinking whether she is saying the right thing. The difference in interviews is huge between then and now.

Four years ago Oprah did another interview with Beyoncé and said that she knew she had told Beyoncé to keep it shut but Beyoncé took it too far. she took the advice and ran with it. Maybe, that is why we are seeing a change now and a bit more personal things on the Internet.

SuperFlyHigh · 30/11/2015 19:13

FireCrotch I agree with you too.

A close friend of mine, her DN got tickets and encouraged us to come and get them too which we did... Best live performance, great dancing, unbelievable energy. Fab show-woman!

Lollipopgirl8 · 30/11/2015 19:29

She is the whole package brains beauty and talent
Hence why is one of the highest earning artists

Awoof · 30/11/2015 19:32

She's amazing 😍all hail the queen

SaucyJack · 30/11/2015 19:34

I do think there is a gender issue, but I also think it's a chicken-and-egg one. Male pop stars are not criticised for their appearance in the same way but equally they don't market their bodies in the same way either.

When did you last see Gary Barlow or Pharrell bending over in a nude leotard showing everyone what they had for breakfast?! Ed Sheeran has sold millions of records- but he still looks like the barman from your local real ale pub.

If the likes of J Lo or Beyonce want to be judged on their music instead of their figures or dance moves then they could always try putting their bloody trousers back on and using their talent to sell their music. Works for Adele.

precisely SJ

Leafitout · 30/11/2015 20:07

Adele doesn't dance. She is a very talented singer songwriter. Beyoncé's dance moves may be choreographed but boy can she carry it off! I can just about do the foot shuffle without being knackered!

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 20:09

love that Beygency thing Grin

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 30/11/2015 20:25

I used to love DC. But there are a few niggly reasons I don't like Beyonce anymore.

  1. When Kanye went on stage and did his "Imma let you finish" moment. Beyonce's mouth was saying "no" but her face had glee in it.

  2. I can't forgive Dreamgirls. It's a terrible terrible film.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 20:26

What the heck does (1) mean ?

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 30/11/2015 20:30

Did you not see Kanye announce over Taylor Swift that Beyonce should have won instead?

Aha! I've remembered 3. When he did it a second time to Beck, Bey and Jay Z laughed.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 21:21

Err, no. I'll take your word for it though Smile

She does a look a bit flattered doesn't she

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 30/11/2015 21:31

AF, that must mean you haven't seen this meme (one of my favourites!)

to think Beyonce isn't a great dancer?
AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 21:34

Is this about Kanye West's megalomania and Godlike status ?

SouthWestmom · 30/11/2015 21:39

I think Katy Brand has the answer for you

Debbriana1 · 30/11/2015 21:40

Yes and male singers use women as props. pharrel and blood lines and I could go on with list and list of names.

I don't want to see Beyoncé wearing trousers on stage. Maybe once in while. What I would love is for her leotard to go back to pre Beyoncé the album.

Beyoncé should have won that award. Kanye should have kept his opinion to him self and Taylor should thank Kanye for catapulting her career to the next level.

I thought that the beck debacle was joke. Kanye needs to get over Beyoncé and move on.

Am ma let you finish.

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 30/11/2015 21:45

Well he is a nutter, but Bey wasn't exactly upset that in her honour, he'd shat on a great height on a 19 year old collecting her award. She looked like she was loving it actually.

Here's the vid of her having a jolly good cackle when Kanye interrupted the ceremony to say she should have won over Beck (plays 14 instruments, wrote and produced his album)

Debbriana1 · 30/11/2015 21:48

Leafitout you comparing Beyoncé to Adele is like comparing Michael Jackson to Aretha Franklin. You cannot expect them to perform in the same way.
The style is completely different.

Or even prince with Michael Jackson. Prince has some talents that MJ doesn't and that does not make him better or vice versa.

Debbriana1 · 30/11/2015 21:55

Beck is like prince. One of those people that has a lot of talent but there is always someone people like a bit more than them. How many years did it take him to win that award? From my understanding that is his 9th or 12th album. Him and Leonardo dicaprio should change notes on how not to win awards.
