to think Beyonce isn't a great dancer?

DD is in a play where her and a few friends do a dance routine to Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love'.

I'm not a fan of Beyonce on many levels and I just don't get why lots of people talk up what a great dancer she is. Perhaps the choreography she's consistently had isn't great but am I missing something?

She seems very heavy footed to me with very little grace and fluidity. All she seems to do is shrug her shoulders up and down, booty pop and whip her head around from side to side.

DD is constantly going on about what a great dancer Beyonce is but I just can't see it. I did dance for many years but I'm no expert so maybe I am missing something.

Poppy I'm not trying to 'tear down' anyone. I don't think she's a good dancer. Good for her if she thinks she is. I don't think she is.

Bit unnecessary to call her hair 'rat's tails' though, no?

HeSaysYOLO · 30/11/2015 11:09

Practice with your DD and you may change your mind. If your DD struggles and rates her, I'd suggest your being rather simplistic! or jealous

FireCrotch · 30/11/2015 11:09

I could be wrong but I took the op as tongue in cheek?! We don't really have to pretend we like everything and everyone do we? I'm sure Beyoncé couldn't find a so are fuck to give out.

FireCrotch · 30/11/2015 11:10

Spare. FFS. spare.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 11:13

will your dd be expected to wipe her backside up and down a wall ?

Ubertwat · 30/11/2015 11:13

maybebaby I think her hair looks like rats tails.

But why do you feel the need to criticise her? Not only for her ability, which has garnered praise from the public generally and dancing community, but also for her appearance in a mean way?

The other thing to remember is that she does her whole choreography while performing to an audience and singing live, which is something standard dancers are not required to do. Not only does she have to remember the routine, perform it boldly that an audience of thousands feel the impact of the dance, but also control her breathing and sing note perfect. Oh, and she's supposed to look sexy while she does all of this, otherwise she's due for criticism what with being a woman and all.

Well I love her. She helps my depression, and I don't care if that sounds daft :)

Ubertwat · 30/11/2015 11:18

Poppy Because I don't think she's good at dancing and I don't think she looks good. Her career is built on her singing and dancing abilities and the way that she looks.
Some people aren't going to like her singing, her dancing or the way she looks. Are you saying those people should just be quiet so that she only receives positive reviews?

does her whole choreography while performing to an audience and singing live, which is something standard dancers are not required to do. Not only does she have to remember the routine, perform it boldly that an audience of thousands feel the impact of the dance, but also control her breathing and sing note perfect. That's her fucking job and she gets paid very very well for it.

None of what you see is Beyonce's real hair, btw

I think she looks fantastic though, but I hate the oversexualised dancing and fail to see what is so great about looking like you have worms or summat. That video of Crazy In Love reminds me of when my childhood dog used to wipe it's arse on the rug.

PoppyBlossom · 30/11/2015 11:20

Indeed it is her fucking job op, and she's he best at it in the world for the past 15 years.

shedragon · 30/11/2015 11:32

YABtotallyU. Beyonce is mesmerising. Puts me in a trance. I am hypnotised into believing she is wonderful at everything

OnlyLovers · 30/11/2015 11:41

YANBU. She's not all that. She's not that great a singer either IMO.

shedragon · 30/11/2015 11:58

Snort ot AnyFucker.Grin 'Tis true tho.

SaucyJack · 30/11/2015 12:05

She's better at her job than J Lo tbf. Whenever I see pictures of her throwing herself around in the papers I just feel sorry for the floor.

I don't know what they're all trying to achieve with it- other than keeping up with Rihanna. It gets worse and worse by the year.

Just makes me wince.

Werksallhourz · 30/11/2015 12:30

Beyonce and her dancing is quite a controversial subject. She "borrows" quite a lot of her choreography from other dancers and choreographers, and there have been legal challenges in the past.

"Single ladies", for example, was a replica of Gwen Verdon's performance of a Bob Fosse dance. She also "borrowed" some choreography from a European performance artist.

But then I don't quite get why people think Beyoncé is so marvellous. There doesn't seem any spark there; a lot of what she does feels quite mechanised. It struck me how much so when I saw the new Missy Eliot video and it felt so alive: quirky, fun and original with new ideas and great choreography.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2015 12:41

I agree. I think Beyonce looks a bit dead behind the eyes. And for all the "sexiness" she is supposed to be portraying, she seems a bit too mechanical for me.

Pandora97 · 30/11/2015 13:06

I was going to mention Ciara OP! She's an incredible dancer, she is still around but had a baby fairly recently. I think she's starting to release songs again though.

ZoeTurtle · 30/11/2015 13:18

YANBU. Her performances don't do much for me.

Songlark · 30/11/2015 13:22

But why do you feel the need to criticise her
Should we only just write positive glowing tributes to celebrities. They put them selves up their for all the world to see. We don't have to like them and it's quite ok to say why we don't, even including their appearance. They are selling a product, themselves, and making a lot of money doing it. We have the right to say why we don't like them. We should never put celebs on to too high a pedestal.

Allofaflumble · 30/11/2015 13:30

Can't bear her voice. So flat. Last time she was great was in the "Bootylicious" video. She looked stunning then and was better as part of DC. Just my view.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2015 13:39

Oh blimey. I am currently on a bonkers thread where everyone is having to think about Cheryl FV, now I have to have a think about Beyonce? Sad Grin
