WIBU to have a nicer advent calendar than the Dc?!

They've got malteaser ones after we went shopping and chose, saying they couldn't all have the £10 Lindt ones - £30 on advent calendars seems ridiculous!
But now I want the Hotel Chocolat one and id feel really mean spending £12.50 on mine now.
This really is a first world problem

Mine chose Minions, I have the M & S beauty one (plus I got a trad one with pictures for me too). Seems fair.

They've had Lego and Playmobil in the past but I decided it was a bit ott getting a pressie every day in advent.

The DCs wanted Milky Way ones (I know nestle etc) I've got montezumas, think I've certainly got the better deal!
Dh is hoping I'll fill up our wooden house one that has a drawer for each day, which I must do tonight!

Not at all. DC each have a £2 one each. I have a Yankee candle one which I think was about £20.

To be fair my DM brought it for me. I wouldn't have bothered buying myself one as I would have eaten any chocolate one long before December

My daughter has a fabric one with pockets my mum made her so have spend a couple of pounds on chocolate to go in it. I have a hotel chocolat Hubby bought me and a no7 make-up one I bought myself

Where did you see the £10 Lindt advent calendars? In Sainsburys there are two different Lindt advent calendars, £6 or £12. So I reckon you should take the Malteser ones back and get the £6 Lindt ones instead. Then with the kids happy it's up to you which one you get for yourself

Ds2 used that argument with me when he wanted an iPhone. He got a 9.99 phone from Argos- doesn't mean I have to have one as well

Imo, I'm earning it, I'm spending it on me without guilt on occasion, just because.

Well obviously we haven't bought our one year old a car, but for something like advent calendars I would not refuse to but the kids the one they want, and then buy myself one four times the price.

Yes, I think it would be mean to say "we can't afford any better" when buying calendars for the children, and then to spend twice as much on your own.

(disclaimer: we really can't afford it, and are often scratching for change to spend on groceries.)

I bought both my boys dairy free chocolate calendars, and they are happy that they have chocolate ones like their non-allergic friends. I didn't even think about buying one for myself! Some weeks later, I saw a dairy free calendar which was half the size and half the price, reduced in Sainsburys, and I bought it for myself so that I could have chocolate in the mornings too. Ds1 (aged 7) was unbelievably happy about this, and I realised that he thought I want t valuing myself because I didn't have a calendar.

It's okay to have a calendar of your own - but it should be of equal value, because everybody in the family is of equal value.

I think it was tesco that had £10 Lindt ones to whoever up thread asked. It was a couple of days ago now and there wasn't a lot of choice left.

They originally said they wanted malteaser ones and then dd2 spotted the Lindt ones. I said I wasn't going to spend £30 on advent calendars so no. She wasn't cross or anything, happily chose the one she originally wanted.

Dp usually buys me the selfridges one which costs a lot more than £12.50 but it was a total waste as I end up giving all the little bits to my sister anyway.

I'm not going to do it because I would feel too mean, but i don't disagree with 2 tier spending in certain circumstances. It makes a lot of sense in fact!

And yy exactly that Tantrums, my don't get iPhones, they aren't toys, they are very expensive (particularly to fix!), but dp and I both have them.

But something like an advent calendar would make me feel a bit crap having a fancy one sitting next to their cheap ones after I said no. By the way, it wasn't a long drawn out discussion where my dd felt deprived, she was totally non plussed about it and has been searching for all the numbers on the one she chose which was initially the one she wanted anyway.

I've got the Selfridges one (£60) and a maltesers one (£2.50). DH has a Cadbury one (£1.50). The kids have playmobil ones (c. £10 each) plus shitty cheap character ones they chose themselves (£1 each). The cat's was a fiver I think. So if anything DH is getting mugged off. I don't think he cares.

I didn't say no because we couldn't afford them, I said no because it seems like a spectacular waste of money.

I've got a body shop one this year, the dcs are sharing a Lego one and have a cheap choccy one each. I've not gone at all mad with presents though so this is part of it for them.

Tbh I really fancied the jo Malone one so the body shop one felt like a bloody bargain in comparison..

I decided to get myself one this year, and I carefully limited myself to £3, same as the DC.

But I'd mentioned to DH (with no agenda) that I fancied one, and he went and got me a posh Lindt one. So now I've got 2, and one is budget-busting. Oops!
