They only ever seem to be used to diminish and try to shut down discussion. To deflect from somebody's argument without addressing it, and to try to make the other person look irrational and/or mean spirited, or to characterise their point as an overreaction, however moderately it's been been put. They are the polemical equivalent of playing the player not the ball.

The words are froth/frothing/frothers, sneer/sneery/sneering and hate/haters.

Grin Frances. There would be lots of gritted teeth.

Boulevard is this a TAAT?

BathtimeFunkster · 28/11/2015 11:34

Have my first ever biscuit

Grin

Yes, so many people losing their biscuit virginity in rows.

I think I used my first biscuit back when nobody knew what to do with them.

Have my second biscuit Biscuit

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2015 11:35

I think the biscuit should go, it serves no purpose. now we have the rancid Cadburys bar which is a far better insult.

ArcheryAnnie · 28/11/2015 11:36

But I've never used my biscuit! I don't want to go to my grave a biscuit-virgin.

Thatpoorpig · 28/11/2015 11:36

The one the most bugs me has been touched upon about, the deliberate misunderstanding. Specifically the "and what did the teacher say when you told her X" when it is clear from the op and subsequent posts that the poster hasn't spoken to to the teacher, it's just a patronising, self-satisfied way of making the point to the poster that they should probably have spoken to teacher, but why not just say that outright.

I'm not sure I have made my point very clearly but I'm sure others that share my annoyance will get what I meAn.

BathtimeFunkster · 28/11/2015 11:37

Have my first ever rancid Cadbury's bar Chocolate

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 28/11/2015 11:38

We need some insults though...right?

BathtimeFunkster · 28/11/2015 11:38

I don't want to go to my grave a biscuit-virgin.

Grin LOL

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/11/2015 11:40

We all know what the biscuit means anyway.

It means "you are a fucking dick but I'm not allowed to say that. In fact the fact I want to give you my first biscuit means no one else I have ever met here has been a
bigger dick than you".

catfordbetty · 28/11/2015 11:41

Goady is ,a term I hate. I think that a poster who accuses a person of being goady is very often goady themselves. I have seen that word used so many tmes, try and shut down discussion.

I agree. Another vote for 'goady' from me.

Sallystyle · 28/11/2015 11:42

I am a biscuit virgin too.

I don't see the point of giving someone a biscuit. Like we are meant to care that someone has lost their biscuit virginity.

Annie you can give me your first biscuit if you like.

RiverTam · 28/11/2015 11:42

On a slightly different note I really hate 'serve'. I don't serve food up in my house, I'm not a waitress. See also 'food prep'.

Never really see 'hate' or 'haters' much on MN, isn't the demographic a bit old Grin? I agree with 'sneery' etc. But I have to confess to using 'vile' in RL, love it.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2015 11:42

What should replace 'goady'? It describes some posters perfectly.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/11/2015 11:42

And don't anyone give me a biscuit after that now Grin

Samcro · 28/11/2015 11:43

SN brigade

god that is a vile term

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/11/2015 11:43

I see both sides of "goady"
Have been called it because I vehemently disagreed with tone of thread and said so.
But some do just post to cause a bunfight and it's fair enough to call them on it.although IMO that's troll hunting really.

BathtimeFunkster · 28/11/2015 11:44

Is it meant to be a jammie dodger?

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2015 11:44

Here you go Fanjo

I think everyone should post what they like because variety is the spice of life and trends come and go.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/11/2015 11:46

I like those kind of biscuits!

Anniegetyourgun · 28/11/2015 11:48

In the context of this thread perhaps it should represent an exposed boob.

catfordbetty · 28/11/2015 11:55

What should replace 'goady'?

The word 'goading' perhaps which already exists? And used when someone was troublemaking and being deliberately provocative.

Bambambini · 28/11/2015 11:56

In still have my biscuit after about 8 or 9 years on here. But I'm a greedy buggy, no one's getting my biscuit!

Annie you can give me your first biscuit if you like.

U2 I'm never going to get a more generous offer in my life, so: Biscuit

I actually like that biscuit. (So does Eleven, when he can convince the daleks it's a self-destruct button.)
